Contribution of functional KIR3DL1 to ankylosing spondylitis

Increasing evidence points to a role for killer immunoglobulin-like receptors(KIRs)in the development of autoimmune *** particular,a positive association of KIR3DS1(activating receptor)and a negative association of KIR3DL1(inhibitory receptor)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis(AS)have been reported by several ***,none of the studies analyzed these associations in the context of functionality of polymorphic *** better understand how the KIR3DL1/3DS1 genes determine susceptibility to AS,we analyzed the frequencies of alleles and genotypes encoding functional(KIR3DL1*F)and non-functional(KIR3DL1*004)*** genotyped 83 AS patients and 107 human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-B27-positive healthy controls from the Russian Caucasian population using a two-stage sequence-specific primer PCR,which distinguishes KIR3DS1,KIR3DL1*F and KIR3DL1*004 *** the patients carrying two functional KIR3DL1 alleles,those alleles were additionally genotyped to identify KIR3DL1*005 and KIR3DL1*007 alleles,which are functional but are expressed at low ***3DL1 was negatively associated with AS at the expense of KIR3DL1*F but not of KIR3DL1**** finding indicates that the inhibitory KIR3DL1 receptor protects against the development of AS and is not simply a passive counterpart of the segregating KIR3DS1 allele encoding the activating ***,analysis of genotype frequencies indicates that the presence of KIR3DS1 is a more important factor for AS susceptibility than the absence of KIR3DL1**** activation of either natural killer(NK)or T cells via the KIR3DS1 receptor can be one of the critical events in AS development,while the presence of the functional KIR3DL1 receptor has a protective ***,even individuals with a genotype that carried two inhibitory KIR3DL1 alleles expressed at high levels could develop AS.

Transcatheter Technologies in Treating Brain Atherosclerosis Complicated by Chronic Cerebrovascular Insufficiency

The research investigates the possibility of restoring the blood supply in patients with atherosclerosis of the brain, as well as the treatment of chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency. The research involves 946 patients aged 29 - 81 (average age 74) suffering from various types of cerebral atherosclerosis. 568 (60.04%) patients underwent transcatheter treatment—Test Group. 378 (39.96%) patients underwent conservative treatment—Control Group. The examination plan included laboratory diagnostics, assessment of dementia severity (CDR), assessment of cognitive impairment (MMSE), evaluation of the activities of daily living (IB), cerebral computed tomography (CT), cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cerebral scintigraphy (SG), rheoencephalography (REG), cerebral multi-gated angiography (MUGA). To restore the blood supply, the method of transcatheter laser revascularization was applied;high-energy pulsed lasers were used for major intracranial arteries treatment, and low energy CW lasers—for distal intracranial branches treatment. Test Group: 459 (80.81%) patients had good clinical outcome, 91 (16.02%)—satisfactory clinical outcome, 18 (3.17%)—relatively satisfactory clinical outcome;relatively positive clinical outcome was not obtained in any case. Control Group: good clinical outcome was not obtained in any case;65 (17.20%) patients had satisfactory clinical outcome, 121 (23.26%)—relatively satisfactory clinical outcome, 192 (50.79%)—relatively positive clinical outcome. The method of transcatheter laser revascularization of cerebral vessels is a physiological, effective and low-invasive treatment for patients suffering from atherosclerosis of the brain. The obtained results last up to 10 years and more;it causes regression of mental and motor disorders, promotes regression of dementia and largely improves the patients’ quality of life;it has virtually no alternative—which makes the proposed method significantly different from conservative treatment methods.

Dementia and Cognitive Impairment Reduction after Laser Transcatheter Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease

Reduced cerebral perfusion and microcirculation are found among AD causes, which should be considered in the development of new treatments for the disease. 165 patients with AD were examined. The examination plan included clinical assessment of dementia severity (CDR), cognitive function assessment (MMSE), laboratory examination, cerebral scintigraphy (SG), rheoencephalography (REG), cerebral CT and MRI, morphometric AD stages assessment (TDR) and cerebral multi-gated angiography (MUGA). 89 patients aged 34 - 79 (average age 67) were selected for the treatment: 31 (34.83%) male, 58 (65.17%) female patients. According to their AD stage, the patients were divided into: TDR-0 (preclinical stage)—10 (11.24%) patients, TDR-1 (early stage with mild dementia, mild cognitive impairment)—28 (31.46%) patients, TDR-2 (medium stage with moderate dementia, cognitive impairment sufficiently persistent)—34 (38.20%) patients, TDR-3 (late stage with sufficiently severe dementia and cognitive impairment)—17 (19.10%) patients. Test Group—46 (51.68%) patients—had transcatheter treatment with low-energy lasers. Control Group—43 (48.31%)—had conservative treatment with Memantin and Rivastigmine. The Test Group had cerebral microcirculation improvement leading to permanent dementia reduction and cognitive recovery which allowed transferring the patients to a lighter TDR group or withdrawing them from the scale. Control Group patients with earlier AD stages (TDR-0, TDR-1, TDR-2) obtained stabilization for a period of 6 months-3 years, with subsequent growth of dementia and cognitive impairment;patients with late AD stage (TDR-3) showed further increase of cognitive impairment and dementia. Transcatheter treatment allows reducing the effects of dyscirculatory angiopathy of Alzheimer’s type (DAAT) improving cerebral microcirculation and metabolism, which leads to permanent dementia regression and cognitive impairment reduction. Disorders of cerebrovascular angioarchitectonics and microcirculation in the etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease

There have recently appeared many reports dedicated to cerebral hemodynamics disorders in AD. However, certain specific aspects of cerebral blood flow and microcirculation during this disease are not fully understood. This research focuses on the identification of particular features of cerebral angioarchitectonics and microcirculation at preclinical and clinical AD stages and on the determination of their importance in AD etiology and pathogenesis. 164 patients participated in the research: Test Group—81 patients with different AD stages;Control Group— 83 patients with etiologically different neurodegenerative brain lesions with manifestations of dementia and cognitive impairment but without AD. All patients underwent: assessment of cognitive function (MMSE), severity of dementia (CDR) and AD stages (TDR), laboratory examination, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), brain scintigraphy (SG), rheoencephalography (REG) and cerebral multigated angiography (MUGA). All Test Group patients, irrespective of their AD stage, had abnormalities of the cerebral microcirculation manifested in dyscirculatory angiopathy of Alzheimer’s type (DAAT), namely: reduction of the capillary bed in the hippocampus and frontal-parietal regions;development of multiple arteriovenous shunts in the same regions;early venous dumping of arterial blood through these shunts with simultaneous filling of arteries and veins;development of abnormally enlarged lateral venous trunks that receive blood from the arterio-venous shunts;anomalous venous congestion at the border of frontal and parietal region;increased loop formation of distal intracranial arterial branches. Control group patients did not have combinations of such changes. These abnormalities are specific for AD and can affect amyloid beta metabolism contributing to its accumulation in the brain tissue and thereby stimulating AD progression.

The Use of Transcatheter Laser Exposure in the Treatment of Cerebral vessels Hypoplasia Accompanied by Migraine

The research is dedicated to the possibility of restoring cerebral blood supply in patients with brain vessels hypoplasia accompanied by migraine. The research involved 67 patients aged 29 - 58 (average age 42) with severe migraine. The examination plan included laboratory diagnostics, assessment of dementia severity (CDR), assessment of cognitive impairment (MMSE), cerebral computed tomography (CT), cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cerebral scintigraphy (SG), rheoencephalography (REG), cerebral multi-gated angiography (MUGA). Hypoplasia symptoms were detected in 56 (83.58%) patients. To improve cerebral blood supply, the method of transcateter laser revascularization by means of low-energy CW lasers was used. Good immediate angiographic outcome manifested in persistent improvement of the intracranial vascular bed and marked collateral vascularization was obtained in 53 (94.64%) patients. Good clinical outcome— almost complete regression of migraine and vestibular disorders—was obtained in 49 (87.50%) patients. Satisfactory clinical outcome—partial regression of migraine and vestibular disorders— was observed in 7 (12.50%) patients. The method of transcatheter laser revascularization of cerebral vessels is a physiological, effective and low-invasive treatment for patients suffering from cerebral vessels hypoplasia accompanied by migraine. This method has virtually no alternative;it stimulates natural angiogenesis causing collateral and capillary vascularization steadily improving the blood supply of the brain. The effect obtained after the treatment persists for a long time (9 years and longer), it causes regression of migraine, reduces mental disorders, and can improve the patients’ quality of life.

The aim of this study was to develop self-healable and robust elect roconductive film based on polyaniline copolymer for application as electrode in flexible *** this purpose,the electroconductive polymer brushes(EPB)was *** synthesis of EPB is based on graft polymerizations of acrylamide(AAm)on poly(vinyl alcohol)(PvA)with formation of PvA-PAAm polymer brush and subsequent graft copolymerization of aniline and p-phenylenediamine on PvA-PAAm resulting in formation of EPB with electroconducting copoly(aniline-co-pphenylenediamine)(PAPh DA).It was found that the ratio between PvA and PAAm at the first stage greatly influence the electrochemical performance of the *** films were prepared by casting of EPB solution with subsequent *** of electrical current distribution through the film with AFM reveal more uniform distribution of PAPhDA in EPB in comparison with reference PvA-PAPhDA and PAAm-PAPhDA *** was demonstrated that mechanical cha racteristics and electrical conductivity values of films restore at large extent after curring and self-healing under optimal relative humidity level(58%).The flexile supercapacitor cell with EPB film electrodes demon strate specific capacitance 602 mF·cm^(-2)at the current density of 1 mA·cm^(-2)and retention 94%of initial capacitance after 5000 charge/discharge cycles.

Medical images classification for skin cancer using quantitative image features with optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography(OCT)is employed in the diagnosis of skin ***,quantitative image features extracted from OCT images might be used as indicators to classify the skin *** the present paper,we investigated intensity-based,texture-based and fractalbased features for automatically classifying the melanomas,basal cell carcinomas and pigment *** estimating equations were used to test for differences between the skin tumors.A modified p value ofved in basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi as compared with *** decrease of contrast,entropy and fractal dimension was also observed in basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi as compared with *** results suggest that the selected quantitative image features of OCT images could provide useful information to differentiate basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi from the *** research is warranted to determine how this approach may be used to improve the classification of skin tumors.

International scientific communications in the field of colorectal tumour markers

AIM To analyze scientometrically the dynamic science internationalization on colorectal tumour markers as reflected in five information portals and to outline the significant journals, scientists and *** A retrospective problem-oriented search was performed in Web of Science Core Collection(Wo S), MEDLINE, BIOSIS Citation Index(BIOSIS) and Scopus for 1986-2015 as well as in Dervent Innovations Index(Derwent) for 1995-2015. Several specific scientometric parameters of the publication output and citation activity were comparatively analyzed. The following scientometric parameters were analyzed:(1) annual dynamics of publications;(2) scientific institutions;(3) journals;(4) authors;(5) scientific forums;(6) patents-number of patents, names and countries of inventors, and(7) citations(number of citations to publications by single authors received in WoS, BIOSIS Citation Index and Scopus).RESULTS There is a trend towards increasing publication output on colorectal tumour markers worldwide along with high citation rates. Authors from 70 countries have published their research results in journals and conference proceedings in 21 languages. There is considerable country stratification similar to that in most systematic investigations. The information provided to end users and scientometricians varies between these data-bases in terms of most parameters due to different journal coverage, indexing systems and editorial policy. The lists of the so-called "core" journals and most productive authors in Wo S, BIOSIS, MEDLINE and Scopus along with the list of the most productive authors-inventors in Derwent present a particular interest to the beginners in the field, the institutional and national science managers and the journal editorial board members. The role of the purposeful assessment of scientific forums and patents is emphasized.
