Altitudinal seasonality as a potential driver of morphological diversification in rear-edge bird populations

Populations at the low latitude limits of a species range(rear-edge populations)are often considered more vulnerable to climate ***,their ability to track different environmental settings at a regional scale has been widely overlooked,although this may be relevant to accurately assess their adaptive capacity to cope with ongoing *** we tested whether the endemic African Chaffinch(Fringilla coelebs africana)tracks environmental changes(*** temperatures,snow cover)by rearranging their numbers between seasons(spring ***)along the altitude gradients of its northwestern African *** additionally tested whether these seasonal changes in abundance were paralleled by morphological variation,suggesting a process of population *** assessed African Chaffinch abundance in tree covered farmland and woodland sites distributed along an altitude gradient in spring and *** addition,we captured and measured chaffinches within the study gradient to explore the patterns of morphological *** results showed that chaffinches shifted to lowlands from snow covered highlands during *** addition,highland individuals showed longer and more concave wings than their lowland *** morphological traits are usually related to flight efficiency in migratory birds,which suggest the presence of altitudinal movements aimed to track the environmental seasonality caused by *** results suggest a potential role of altitudinal seasonality as a driver of regional diversification within the African Chaffinch populations,which could be occurring in other north African avian species giv.n their relatively high endemicity in the *** evolutionary and conservation implications of these displacements have been often overlooked despite they can shape the adaptive capacity of rear-edge bird populations to face the ongoing environmental changes in this peripheral area of the Palearctic.

Evaluating methods to quantify sediment volumes trapped behind check dams,Saldana badlands(Spain)

The determination of sediment yield in catchments based on the sediment trapped by check dams is becoming a subject of *** fact,several methods have been developed in recent years to estimate the sediment retained by check *** complexity,precision and accuracy of each method vary *** this study,we evaluate the sediment trapped by check dams comparing the Sections method respect to the Prism,Pyramid,DTMs and Trapezoid *** analyzed a sample of 25 check dams(α-1=90%;ε=10%) in the Saldana badlands(Spain).The results showed that the Sections method offered a volume of retained sediment between the others,which gave an absolute variation from 22%to40%.The high variability of the check dam and sediment wedge sizes made necessary to compare methods in groups combining both *** significant differences in sediment volumes could be found between the methods for very small(height(h):1.8-2.3 m;trapped volume(V):6-102 m3) or large check dams(h > 2.3 m;V:165-387 m3),while significant differences are found for small(h nevertheless,volume differences between groups ranged up to + 25%.For these reason,the size of the check dam,the shape of the sediment wedge and the accuracy of the measure methods must considered when selecting an appropriate method to obtain the volume of retained sediment by check dams.A correct estimation of the sediment retention is needed to evaluate the role and efficiency of check dams in restoration projects or to estimate sediment yields.

Leaching kinetics in cyanide media of Ag contained in the industrial mining-metallurgical wastes in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico

The leaching kinetics in cyanide media of the silver contained in the Dos Carlos waste tailings at the City of Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo State, Mexico were carried out. The used material contained the following chemical composition: 56 10-6of Ag, 0.6 10 6of Au and 70.43%(by weight) of SiO2; 7.032%(by weight) of Al2O3; 2.69%(by weight) of Fe; 0.46%(by weight) of Mn; 3.98%(by weight) of K2O; 3.34%(by weight) of CaO; 2.50%(by weight) of na2O; 0.04%(by weight) of Zn; 0.026%(by weight) of Pb. The mineralogical phases present were the following: Silica, albite, argentite, berlinite, orthoclase, potassium jarosite, and natrojarosite. In the leaching kinetics in cyanide media, and under the studied conditions,the effect of the Cn concentration on the reaction rate has no effect on the whole process of alkaline cyanidation, of which the reaction order is n 0. Temperature has an effect on the cyanidation rate of the reaction, with an activation energy of 47.9 KJ/mol. At the same time, when the particle size decreases there is an increase in the reaction rate, which is inversely proportional to the particle diameter; when increasing the naOH concentration there is an increase in the reaction rate Kexp, with a reaction order(n) of 0.215 under the studied ranges.

Use of δ^(18)O, δ^(13)C and nO_(3)^(-) to identify hydrogeochemical processes related to contamination in an aquifer located in central Mexico

In this work,an isotopic analysis of δ^(18)O,δ^(13)C,and nO_(3)^(-) concentrations was carried out to identify the origin and the processes related to the contamination of an aquifer located in the state of Guanajuato,*** research identified the possible sources of δ^(13)C in *** groundwater flow,CO_(2) participates in different hydrogeochemical reactions in which the dissolution of carbonates or biochemical processes related to biodegradation stand *** data of δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O,and the hydrogeochemical behavior of nO_(3)^(-) and HCO_(3)^(-) in water,in addition to isotopic data and the chemical composition of limestones in the study area,were determined to establish the isotopic signature and the processes undergone by the *** isotopic signature of rock and water samples indicated that metamorphic limestones contributed with carbon dioxide to deep groundwater,while in the upper aquifer,bacterial metabolic reactions during nitrification–denitrification could modify the isotopic signature of δ^(13)C in some wells,although atmospheric contribution also plays a *** modification of the carbon isotopic component is related to the precipitation of calcite in specific regions of the study area,input of atmospheric CO_(2),and soil(*** possible participation of C4-type plants in the assimilation-release of carbon).This process is not confirmed or completely ruled out in this study since agriculture is excessively developed throughout the *** joint interpretation of isotopic values and the hydrogeochemical behavior of major and conservative elements help in identifying possible pollution processes in which different carbon sources are related.

Preparation and Characterization of Flexible, Transparent and Thermally Stable Aromatic Co-polyamides

Two aromatic co-polyamides were synthesized combining two diacid monomers containing bulky pendant groups, 5-(9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboximido)isophthalic acid(DEAIA) and 5-tert-butylisophthalic acid(TERT), with 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dianiline(HFA) or 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine(Durene) by direct polycondensation. The structures of the obtained aromatic co-polyamides were confirmed by FTIR, Raman and 1 H-nMR. The co-copolyamide films, DHTH and DDTD, exhibited rms-roughness values between 0.94 and 1.60 nm, respectively. Moreover, they presented good thermal stability up to300 °C. Young's moduli of the co-polyamide films were between 4.1 and 4.3 GPa. X-ray diffraction results showed that the co-polyamide films were amorphous due to the incorporation of both bulky pendant groups, tert-butyl and dibenzobarrelene. The combination of bulky pendant groups provided intrinsically transparent co-polyamide films with a transmittance higher than 88% in the range of 400-780 *** to these outstanding film and optical properties, they are suggested to be flexible substrates in applications for solar cell and other portable electronic devices.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV)for forest monitoring has grown significantly in recent years,providing information with high spatial resolution and temporal *** with multispectral sensors allow the use of indexes such as the normalized difference vegetation index(nDVI),which determines the vigor,physiological stress and photo synthetic activity of *** study aimed to analyze the spectral responses and variations of nDVI in tree crowns,as well as their correlation with climatic factors over the course of one *** study area encompassed a 1.6-ha site in Durango,Mexico,where Pinus cembroides,Pinus engelmannii,and Quercus grisea *** images were acquired with UAV and information on meteorological variables was obtained from nASA/POWER *** AnOVA explored possible differences in nDVI among the three *** correlation was performed to identify the linear relationship between nDVI and meteorological *** differences in nDVI values were found at the genus level(Pinus and Quercus),possibly related to the physiological features of the species and their *** grisea had the lowest nDVI values throughout the year which may be attributed to its sensitivity to relative humidity and *** the use of UAV with a multispectral sensor for nDVI monitoring allowed genera differentiation,in more complex forest analyses hyperspectral and LiDAR sensors should be integrated,as well other vegetation indexes be considered.

Background:Alterations in ambient temperature have been associated with multiple detrimental effects on broilers such as intestinal barrier disruption and dysbiosis resulting in systemic *** and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol(25-OH-D_(3))have shown to play a negative and positive role,respectively,in the regulation of bone *** the potential of 25-OH-D_(3)in alleviating heat induced bone alterations and its mechanisms was ***:Heat stress(HS)directly induced a decrease in tibia material properties and bone mass,as demonstrated by lower mineral content,and HS caused a notable increase in intestinal *** with dietary 25-OH-D_(3)reversed the HS-induced bone loss and barrier *** suffering from HS exhibited dysbiosis and increased expression of inflammatory cytokines in the ileum and bone marrow,as well as increased osteoclast number and *** changes were prevented by dietary 25-OH-D_(3)***,dietary 25-OH-D_(3)addition decreased abundance of B-and T-cells in blood,and the expression of inflammatory cytokines,especially TnF-α,in both the ileum and bone marrow,but did not alter the diversity and population or composition of major bacterial *** regard to bone remodeling,dietary 25-OH-D_(3)supplementation was linked to a decrease in serum C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen reflecting bone resorption and a concomitant decrement in osteoclast-specific marker genes expression(*** K),whereas it did not apparently change serum bone formation markers during ***:These data underscore the damage of HS to intestinal integrity and bone health,as well as that dietary 25-OH-D_(3)supplementation was identified as a potential therapy for preventing these adverse effects.
