Microscopic colitis: A retrospective study of clinical presentation in 53 patients

AIM: To evaluate the relationship between symptoms and microscopic colitis (MC) subtypes: to test whether collagenous colitis (CC) and/or lymphocytic colitis (LC)might be related to both constipation and ***: A cohort of patients with independently confirmed typical histopathological changes was investigated. Fifty-three patients with histologically proved MC (46 with CC, 7 with LC) were included. The existence of diarrhea or constipation and the co-existence of autoimmune diseases were also investigated and all data were retrospectively ***: Twenty-three (43.39%) of MC patients had chronic constipation (20 in CC, 3 in LC patients). Twentyfour(45.28%) of MC patients had autoimmune disease and the diagnosis of autoimmune disease was always prior to MC. Sjogren's syndrome was associated only with the constipation ***: The Janus face of MC resembles the subgroups of irritable bowel syndrome. The co-existence of autoimmune diseases and MC is confirmed in both the constipation and diarrhea subgroups.

Let X be a connected non-normal 4-valent arc-transitive Cayley graph on a dihedral group Dn such that X is bipartite, with the two bipartition sets being the two orbits of the cyclic subgroup within Dn. It is shown that X is isomorphic either to the lexicographic product Cn[2K1] with n 〉 4 even, or to one of the five sporadic graphs on 10, 14, 26, 28 and 30 vertices, respectively.

We show that,up to isomorphism,there is a unique non-CI connected cubic Cayley graph on the dihedral group of order 2n for each even number n≥*** answers in the negative the question of Li whether all connected cubic Cayley graphs are CI-graphs(Discrete Math.,256,301-334(2002)).As an application,a formula is derived for the number of isomorphism classes of connected cubic Cayley graphs on dihedral groups,which generalises the earlier formula of Huang et *** with the particular case when n is a prime(Acta ***.,***.,33,996-1011(2017)).As another application,a short proof is also given for a result on sparse circulant matrices obtained by Wiedemann and Zieve(arXiv preprint,(2007)).

In this article,we explored the role of adipose tissue,especially mesenteric adipose tissue and creeping fat,and its association with the gut microbiota in the pathophysiology and progression of Crohn’s disease(CD).CD is a form of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract,influenced by genetic predisposition,gut microbiota dysbiosis,and environmental *** microbiota plays a crucial role in modulating immune response and intestinal inflammation and is associated with the onset and progression of ***,visceral adipose tissue,particularly creeping fat,a mesenteric adipose tissue characterized by hypertrophy and fibrosis,has been implicated in CD pathogenesis,inflammation,and *** bacteria from the gut microbiota may translocate into mesenteric adipose tissue,contributing to the formation of creeping fat and influencing CD *** creeping fat may be a protective barrier against bacterial invasion,its expansion can damage adjacent tissues,leading to *** gut microbiota through interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation,probiotics,and prebiotics has shown potential in managing ***,more research is needed to clarify the mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis,creeping fat,and CD progression and develop targeted therapies for microbiota modulation and fat-related complications in patients with CD.

Water in the upper mantle and deep crust of eastern China: concentration, distribution and implications

Understanding the concentration and distribution of water in the Earth’s mantle plays a substantial role in studying its chemical, physical and dynamic processes. After a decade of research, a comprehensive dataset of water content in upper-mantle samples has been built for eastern China, which is now the only place with water-content data from such diverse types of natural samples, and provides an integrated picture of the water content and its distribution in the upper mantle at a continental scale. The main findings include the following:(i) the temporal heterogeneity of the water content in the lithospheric mantle from early Cretaceous(～120 Ma) to Cenozoic(nnected with the stability of the north China Craton(from its destruction to its consolidation);(ii) the heterogeneous water content in the Cenozoic lithospheric mantle beneath different blocks of eastern China was not only inherited from tectonic settings from which they came, but was also affected later by geological processes they experienced;(iii) the distinct water content between the lowermost crust and lithospheric mantle of eastern China and its induced rheological contrast at the base of the crust indicate that the continental crust–mantle boundary could behave either in a coupled or decoupled manner beneath different areas and/or at different stages;(iv) the alkali basalts of eastern China demonstrate a heterogeneous distribution of water content in the mantle;local and regional comparisons of the water content between the lithospheric mantle and basalts’ source indicate that the Cenozoic alkali basalts in eastern China were not sourced from the lithospheric ***, the inferred high water contents in the mantle sources suggest that the Cenozoic eastern China basalts were likely sourced from the mantle transition zone(MTZ); and(v) both oceanic and continental crusts may carry a certain amount of water back into the deep mantle of eastern China by plate *** re

AIM:The effects of vitamin D3 have been investigated on various tumors, including colorectal cancer (CRC). 25-hydroxyvitamin-D3-24-hydroxylase (CYp24A1), the enzyme that inactivates the active vitamin D3 metabolite 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25-D3), is considered to be the main enzyme determining the biological halflife of 1,25-D3. During colorectal carcinogenesis, the expression and concentration of CYp24A1 increases significantly, suggesting that this phenomenon could be responsible for the proposed efficacy of 1,25-D3 in the treatment of CRC. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-tumor effects of vitamin D3 on the human CRC cell line Caco-2 after inhibition of the cytochrome p450 component of CYp24A1 activity. METHODS:We examined the expression of CYp24A1 mRnA and the effects of 1,25-D3 on the cell line Caco-2 after inhibition of CYp24A1. Cell viability and proliferation were determined by means of sulforhodamine-B staining and bromodeoxyuridine incorporation, respectively, while cytotoxicity was estimated via the lactate dehydrogenase content of the cell culture supernatant. CYp24A1 expression was measured by realtime reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. A number of tetralone compounds were synthesized to investigate their Cp24A1 inhibitory activity. RESULTS:In response to 1,25-D3, CYp24A1 mRnA expression was enhanced significantly, in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Caco-2 cell viability and proliferation were not influenced by the administration of 1,25-D3 alone, but were markedly reduced by coadministration of 1,25-D3 and KD-35, a CYp24A1-inhibiting tetralone. Our data suggest that the mechanism of action of co-administered KD-35 and 1,25-D3 does not involve a direct cytotoxic effect, but rather the inhibition of cell proliferation. COnCLUSIOn:These findings demonstrate that the selective inhibition of CYp24A1 by compounds such as KD-35 may be a new approach for enhancement of the anti-tumor effect of 1,25-D3 on CRC.

The aim of this paper was to study reliable automated delineationpossibilities of karst sinkholes using a LiDAR-based digital terrain model(DTM) with pixel-based classifications. We applied two approaches toextract sinkholes: (1) general linear modeling (GLM) with morphometricindices derived from DTM;(2) and a local minima-based delineationusing only LiDAR DTM as the input layer. The outcome of the localminima was significantly different from the reference ones but found allthe sinkholes without previous knowledge of the area. The GLM-basedoutcome did not differ statistically from the reference. Results showedthat these approaches were efficient in detecting sinkholes based onLIDAR derivatives, and can be used for risk assessment and hazardpreparedness in karst areas: GLM had an overall accuracy of 89.5% andlocal minima had an accuracy of 92.3%;both methods identifiedsinkholes but also had commission errors, identifying depressions assinkholes.

AIM: To assess the effect of our novel cell-permeable nuclear factor-kappaB (nF-κB) inhibitor peptide pn50 in an experimental model of acute pancreatitis. pn50 was produced by conjugating the cell-penetrating penetratin peptide with the nuclear localization signal of the nF-κB p50 ***: pancreatitis was induced in male Wistar rats by administering 2×100 μg/kg body weight of cholecystokininoctapeptide (CCK) intraperitoneally (Ip) at an interval of 1 h. pn50-treated animals received 1 mg/kg of pn50 Ip 30 min before or after the CCK injections. The animals were sacrificed 4 h after the first injection of ***: All the examined laboratory (the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio, serum amylase activity,pancreatic levels of TnF-α and IL-6, degree of lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione levels, nF-κB binding activity, pancreatic and lung myeloperoxidase activity) and morphological parameters of the disease were improved before and after treatment with the pn50 *** to the histological findings, pn50 protected the animals against acute pancreatitis by favoring the induction of apoptotic, as opposed to necrotic acinar cell death associated with severe acute ***: Our study implies that reversible inhibitors of stress-responsive transcription factors like nF-κB might be clinically useful for the suppression of the severity of acute pancreatitis.
