Characterization of aerodynamic performance of wind-lens turbine using high-fidelity CFD simulations

Wind-lens turbines(WLTs)exhibit the prospect of a higher output power and more suitability for urban areas in comparison to bare wind *** wind-lens typically comprises a diffuser shroud coupled with a flange appended to the exit periphery of the ***-lenses can boost the velocity of the incoming wind through the turbine rotor owing to the creation of a lowpressure zone downstream the flanged *** this paper,the aerodynamic performance of the wind-lens is computationally assessed using high-fidelity transient CFD simulations for shrouds with different profiles,aiming to assess the effect of change of some design parameters such as length,area ratio and flange height of the diffuser shroud on the power *** power coefficient(Cp)is calculated by solving the URANS equations with the aid of the SST k–ω***,comparisons with experimental data for validation are accomplished to prove that the proposed methodology could be able to precisely predict the aerodynamic behavior of the windlens *** results affirm that wind-lens with cycloidal profile yield an augmentation of about 58%increase in power coefficient compared to bare wind turbine of the same rotor *** is also emphasized that diffusers(cycloid type)of small length could achieve a twice increase in power coefficient while maintaining large flange heights.

Application of AVO and Seismic Attributes Techniques for Characterizing Pliocene Sand Reservoirs in Darfeel Field, Eastern Mediterranean, Egypt

Mediterranean Sea considered as a main hydrocarbon province in Egypt as a huge reservoirs have been discovered till now. Port Fouad marine is a gas and condensate field located in Eastern Mediterranean Sea about 30 KM off Egyptian coast, in a water depth of about 30 m. The Concession is operated by PETROBEL on behalf of Petrosaid (Port Said Petroleum Company). The field was put on production on April 1996, from the Miocene turbidities sands of Wakar Formation plus Pilocene Kafr EL Sheikh Formation. Darfeel field is located within Port Fouad Concession, seven wells have been drilled till now and producing from Pliocene section (Kafr El Sheikh Formation). Pliocene is the main reservoir in Darfeel field which characterized by turbidities sand stone. The aim of this work is to identify the distribution of turbidities sand and characterize sand reservoirs using AVO (amplitude verses offset) and seismic attributes techniques. The workflow is starting from conventional seismic interpretation, maps (time, depth, and amplitude), depositional environments, and finally structure setting. In addition to use some of unconventional seismic interpretation such as seismic attributes. AVO analysis and attributes had been applied in a temp of differentiate between gas sand reservoirs and non-gas reservoirs. The final result aid to identify the reservoir distribution and characterization of sand reservoirs through the field. So, the use of different seismic techniques is powerful techniques in identifying reservoir distribution.

L-carnitine improves developmental competence of buffalo oocytes in vitro

Objective:To investigate the effect of L-carnitine on in vitro maturation and subsequent in vitro embryo production of buffalo ***:Cumulus oocyte complexes(COCs)were aspirated from ovaries of slaughtered *** were classified into good and fair qualities based on morphological observation of numbers and integrity of cumulus cells surrounding the *** categories of COCs were placed in in vitro maturation medium with supplementation of different concentrations(0,0.250,0.375 or 0.500 mg/mL)of *** from both qualities were in vitro fertilized and in vitro cultured for 7 days,to examine the developmental ***:Supplementation of L-carnitine to in vitro maturation medium increased the cumulus cell expansion rate of COCs to grade A,and reduced the cumulus cell expansion of COCs to grade B and grade C in both good and fair quality ***,L-carnitine induced the in vitro meiotic progression of buffalo oocytes to metaphaseⅡin both good and fair quality ***,L-carnitine reduced the rate of oocyte degeneration in both good and fair quality oocytes.L-carnitine increased the rate of cleaved formation at day 2 and blastocyst formation at day 7 during in vitro culture in both qualities of ***,a higher rate of blastocyst production was observed in L-carnitine-treated fair quality oocytes,which was higher than the results in the untreated good quality ***:L-carnitine enhances meiotic maturation and subsequent embryo development from both good and fair quality buffalo oocytes.

Recovery of Image through Alamouti Channel with Incorporation of RSA Algorithm

In many applications, it is necessary to transmit images at a remote station, where wired Internet service is not available. In this case, wireless local loop (WLL) can help in making wireless link between one end node of the internet and remote service center. In such link, the communication is heavily affected by large and small scale fading;hence the received signal experiences huge distortion in case of forward error correction. Otherwise, huge service delay arises due to frequent negative acknowledgements. To combat the situation, we can choose Alamouti channel of full rate and fully orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC). Our aim is to transmit images through Alamouti channel and to observe the quality of the recovered image, in context of bit error rate (BER). We have also observed the impact of fading and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) on the image without application of error correction or detection technique of channel coding. To ensure security, we apply the RSA algorithm on each pixel prior transmitting and decrypt them at the receiving end, where we found no impairment from the algorithm. Finally, we observe that the relative performance of the system changes digital modulation schemes.

Development of an Arabic version of the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire as a tool to study eye diseases patients in Egypt

AIM:To develop and test an Arabic version of the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire-25(NEI-VFQ-25).METHODS:NEI-VFQ-25 was translated into Arabic according to WHO translation guidelines. We enrolled adult consenting patients with bilateral chronic eye diseases who presented to 14 hospitals across Egypt from October to December 2012, and documented their clinical findings. Psychometric properties were then tested using ***:We recruited 379 patients, whose mean age was(54.5±15)y. Of 46.2% were males, 227 had cataract,31 had glaucoma, 23 had retinal detachment, 37 had diabetic retinopathy, and 61 had miscellaneous visual defects. Non-response rate and the floor and ceiling numbers of the Arabic version(ARB-VFQ-25) were calculated. Internal consistency was high in all subscales(except general health), with Cronbach-α ranging from0.702-0.911. Test-retest reliability was high(intraclass correlation coefficient 0.79).CONCLUSION:RB-VFQ-25 isareliableandvalidtool for assessing visual functions of Arabic speaking patients. However, some questions had high non-response rates and should be substituted by available alternatives. Our results support the importance of including self-reported visual functions as part of routine ophthalmologic examination.

The use of Chinese herbal drugs in islamic medicine

This paper investigates some of the ways that Chinese medicine has been transferred to the Western world and to islamic territories. During the Golden Age of islam （8th to 13th century CE）, the herbal drug trade promoted significant commercial and scientific exchange between China and the Muslim world. Chinese herbal drugs have been described by medieval Muslim medical scholars such as Tabari （870 CE）, Rhazes （925 CE）, Haly Abbas （982 CE）, Avicenna （1037 CE） and Jurjani （1137 CE）. The term al-sin （the Arabic word for China） is used 46 times in Avicenna＇s Canon of Medicine in reference to herbal drugs imported from China. Cinnamon （dar sini; ＂Chinese herb＂）, wild ginger （asaron）, rhubarb （rivand-e sini）, nutmeg （basbasa）, incense tree wood （ood）, cubeb （kababe） and sandalwood （sandal） were the most frequently mentioned Chinese herbs in islamic medical books. There are also multiple similarities between the clinical uses of these herbs in both medical systems. It appears that Chinese herbal drugs were a major component of the exchange of goods and knowledge between China and the islamic and later to the Western world amid this era.
