How much carbon can the Siberian boreal taiga store： a case study of partitioning among the above-ground and soil pools

In the context of global carbon cycle management, accurate knowledge of carbon content in forests is a relevant issue in contemporary forest ecology. We measured the above-ground and soil carbon pools in the darkconiferous boreal taiga. We compared measured carbon pools to those calculated from the forest inventory records containing volume stock and species composition data. The inventory data heavily underestimated the pools in the study area（Stolby State Nature Reserve, central Krasnoyarsk Territory, Russian Federation）. The carbon pool estimated from the forest inventory data varied from 25（t ha-1）（low-density stands） to 73（t ha-1）（highly stocked stands）. Our estimates ranged from 59（t ha-1）（lowdensity stands） to 147（t ha-1）（highly stocked stands）. Our values included living trees, standing deadwood, living cover, brushwood and litter. We found that the proportion of biomass carbon（living trees）： soil carbon varied from99：1 to 8：2 for fully stocked and low-density forest stands,respectively. This contradicts the common understanding that the biomass in the boreal forests represents only16–20 % of the total carbon pool, with the balance being the soil carbon pool.

Model acupuncture point:Bone marrow-derived stromal stem cells are moved by a weak electromagnetic field

AIM To show the existence of a structural formative role of magnetic fields(MFs) with respect to biological objects by using our proposed model of an *** We introduced a magnetised 10-100 μT metal rod(needle) into culture dishes with a negatively charged working surface and observed during 24 h how cells were arranged by MFs and by electrical fields(EFs) when attached. Rat and human bone marrow-derived stromal stem cells(r BMSCs and h BMSCs), human nonadherent mononuclear blood cells, NCTCs and A172 cells, and Escherichia coli(E. coli) were evaluated. The dish containing BMSCs was defined as the model of an acupoint. r BMSCs proliferative activity affected by the needle was investigated. For investigating electromagnetic field structures, we used the gas discharge visualisation(GDv) *** During 24 h of incubation in 50-mm culture dishes, BMSCs or the nonadherent cells accumulated into a central heap in each dish. BMSCs formed a torus(central ring) with an inner diameter of approximately10 mm only upon the introduction of the needle in the centre of the dish. The cells did not show these effects in 35- or 90-mm culture dishes or hydrophobic dishes or rectangular cuvettes. NCTCs and A172 cells showed unstable the effects and only up to two weeks after thawing. Moreover, we observed that the appearance of these effects depended on the season. In winter, BMSCs showed no the effects. GDv experiments revealed that the resonant annular illumination gradually formed from 10 to 18-20 s in polar solutions with and without cell suspension of BMSCs, NCTCs and E. coli when using circular 50-mm dishes, stimulation at 115 v and switching of the electrode poles at 1 kH z. All these data demonstrate the resonant nature of the central ring. The Usefulness of Zhukovsky Double Balloon in Obstetric Hemorrhage

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of the use of a modified Zhukovsky double(vaginal and uterine)balloon to improve the results of treatment in women with obstetric ***:We conducted an observational controlled study including 701 puerperas,which were divided into two groups:The main group consisted of 508 women,who underwent a combined management,that is,traditional(transfusion of fresh frozen plasma,erythrocyte mass,uterotonics,hemostatic agents),surgical hemostasis in cases of caesarean section,and insertion of a double Zhukovsky balloon;while the comparison group included 193 patients,who were managed *** main group and the comparison group were divided into subgroups according to the main etiology of obstetric hemorrhage:ⅠA andⅠB-postpartum;ⅡA andⅡB-placenta accreta;ⅢA andⅢB-postpartum ***:The most frequent causes of massive obstetric hemorrhage were atony of the uterus(39.2%),placenta previa(29.1%),and placental abruption(11.5%).Of the 508 balloon insertions,345(70.7%)were inserted for hemorrhage during cesarean section and 148(29.3%)for obstetric hemorrhage after spontaneous *** the obstetric hemorrhage at caesarean section,lower segment bleeding prevailed(78.1%),caused mainly by placenta previa,placenta accreta,placental abruption,polyhydramnios,and uterine scar *** management,including surgical hemostasis and insertion of vaginal and uterine balloon of Zhukovsky,reduced blood loss by 1.5 times and the number of hysterectomies by 6.72 times compared to ***:The use of a modified Zhukovsky double balloon in the management of obstetric hemorrhage may reduce the number of hysterectomies and the amount of blood loss.

Ultrasensitive detection of DNA and protein markers in cancer cells

Cancer cells differ from normal cells in various parameters, and these differences are caused by genomic mutations and consequential altered gene expression. The genetic and functional heterogeneity of tumor cells is a major challenge in cancer research, detection, and effective treatment. As such, the use of diagnostic methods is important to reveal this heterogeneity at the single-cell level. Droplet microfluidic devices are effective tools that provide exceptional sensitivity for analyzing single cells and molecules. In this review, we highlight two novel methods that employ droplet microfluidics for ultrasensitive detection of nucleic acids and protein markers in cancer cells. We also discuss the future practical applications of these methods.

Cationic Polymerization of Isobutylene and C4 Mixed Feed Using Complexes of Lewis Acids with Ethers: A Comparative Study

The cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed and isobutylene co-initiated by AlCl3xOiPr2,iBuAlC12xnOiPr2, and [emim]Cl- FeCl3xnOiPr2 ([emim]Cl: 1 -ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride) has been investigated. AlCl3xOiPr2 co-initiated cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed proceeds at a lower rate than polymerization of isobutylene affording polymers with higher molecular weight. Complexes of iBuAlCh with di isopropyl ether of different compositions are more suitable co-initiators than AlCl3xOiPr2 for the synthesis of highly reactive polyisobutylene (HR PIB) from C4 mixed feed due to their higher activity in the polymerization as well as possibility to prepare polyisobutylenes with lower molecular weight and higher content of exo-olefin end groups. However, iBuA1C12 needs activating via addition of external water (initiator) and/or interaction with salts hydrates in order to increase the reaction rate and the saturated monomer conversion.[Emim]Cl-FeC13/iPr2O is a quite promising catalyst for the preparation of HR PIB with high exo-olefin end group content (> 80%) and relatively low polydispersity (Mw/Mn via cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed. The sonication of reaction mixture in case of using [emim]Cl-FeCh allowed increasing the reaction rate and decreasing the molecular weight.

Atmospheric rivers(ARs)are an important component of the hydrological cycle linking moisture sources in lower latitudes to the Antarctic surface mass *** investigate AR signatures in the atmospheric vertical profiles at the Dronning Maud Land coast,East Antarctica,using regular and extra radiosonde measurements conducted during the Year of Polar Prediction Special Observing Period November 2018 to February *** AR events affecting the locations of Neumayer and Syowa cause a strong increase in specific humidity extending through the mid-troposphere and a strong low-level jet(LLJ).At Neumayer,the peak in the moisture inversion(up to 4 g kg^?1)is observed between 800 and 900 hPa,while the LLJ(up to 32 m s^?1)is concentrated below 900 *** Syowa the increase in humidity is less pronounced and peaks near the surface,while there is a substantial increase in wind speed(up to 40 m s?1)between 825 and 925 *** transport(MT)within the vertical profile during the ARs attains a maximum of 100 g kg?1 m s?1 at both locations,and is captured by both ERA-Interim and ERA5 reanalysis data at Neumayer,but is strongly underestimated at *** of the enhanced MT events during 2009?19 show that these events represent an extreme state of the lower-tropospheric profile compared to its median values with respect to temperature,humidity,wind speed and,consequently,*** temporal-and vertical-resolution radiosonde observations are important for understanding the contribution of these rare events to the total MT towards Antarctica and improving their representation in models.

Early embryonic imaging of cardiovascular development in mammalian models requires a methodthat can penetrate through and distinguish the many tissue layers with high spatial and temporalresolution. In this paper we evaluate the capability of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)technique for structural 3D embryonic imaging in mouse embryos at different stages of thedevelopmental process ranging from 7.5 dpc up to 10.5 dpc. Obtained results suggest that thecollected data is suitable for quantitative and qualitative measurements to assess cardiovascularfunction in mouse models, which is likely to expand our knowledge of the complexity of theembryonic heart, and its development into an adult heart.
