Digital technologies are becoming more pervasive and industrial companies are exploiting them to enhance the potentialities related to Prognostics and Health Management(PHM).Indeed,PHM allows to evaluate the health state of the physical assets as well as to predict their future *** be effective in developing PHM programs,the most critical assets should be identified so to direct modelling *** techniques could be adopted to evaluate asset criticality;in industrial practice,criticality analysis is amongst the most *** the advancement of artificial intelligence for data analysis and predictions,the criticality analysis,which is built upon both quantitative and qualitative data,has not been improved *** is the goal of this work to propose an ontological formalisation of a multi-attribute criticality analysis in order to i)fix the semantics behind the terms involved in the analysis,ii)standardize and uniform the way criticality analysis is performed,and iii)take advantage of the reasoning capabilities to automatically evaluate asset criticality and associate a suitable maintenance *** developed ontology,called MOCA,is tested in a food company featuring a global *** application shows that MOCA can accomplish the prefixed goals;specifically,high priority assets towards which direct PHM programs are *** the long run,ontologies could serve as a unique knowledge base that integrate multiple data and information across facilities in a consistent *** such,they will enable advanced analytics to take place,allowing to move towards cognitive Cyber Physical Systems that enhance business performance for companies spread worldwide.

Continental accretion and incremental deformation in the thermochronologic evolution of the Lesser Caucasus

Apatite fission-track analysis and thermochronologic statistical modeling of Precambrian-Oligocenc plutonic and metamorphic rocks from the Lesser Caucasus resolve two discrete cooling *** occurred during incremental crustal shortening due to obduction and continental accretion along the margins of the northern branch of the Neotethys.(1)The thermochronometric record of a Late Cretaceous(Turonian-Maastrichtian)cooling/exhumation event,coeval to widespread ophiolite obduction,is still present only in a relatively small area of the upper plate of the Amasia-Sevan-Akera(ASA)suture zone,*** suture marking the final closure of the northern Neotethys during the *** area has not been affected by significant later exhumation.(2)Rapid cooling/exhumation occurred in the Early-Middle Miocene in both the lower and upper plates of the ASA suture zone,obscuring previous thermochronologic signatures over most of the study *** contractional reactivation of the ASA suture zone occurred contemporaneously with the main phase of shortening and exhumation along the Bitlis suture zone marking the closure of the southern branch of the Neotethys and the ensuing ArabiaEurasia *** collisional stress from the Bitlis suture zone was transmitted northward across the Anatolian hinterland,which was left relatively undeformed,and focused along preexisting structural discontinuities such as the eastern Pontides and the ASA suture zone.

Structure and Function of TPC1 Vacuole SV Channel Gains Shape

Plants and animals in endosomes operate TPCI/SV-type cation channels. All plants harbor at least one TPC1 gene. Although the encoded SV channel was firstly discovered in the plant vacuole membrane two decades ago, its biological function has remained enigmatic. Recently, the structure of a plant TPC1/SV channel protein was determined. Insights into the 3D topology has now guided site-directed mutation ap- proaches, enabling structure-function analyses of TPC1/SV channels to shed new light on earlier findings. Fou2 plants carrying a hyperactive mutant form of TPC1 develop wounding stress phenotypes. Recent studies with fou2 and mutants that lack functional TPC1 have revealed atypical features in local and long-distance stress signaling, providing new access to the previously mysterious biology of this vacuolar cation channel type in planta.

Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals perturbs lipid metabolism and circadian rhythms

A growing body of evidence indicates that exposure to environmental chemicals can contribute to the etiology of obesity by inappropriately stimulating adipogenesis as well as perturbing lipid metabolism and energy balance. One potential mechanism by which chemical exposure can influence lipid metabolism is through disturbance of circadian rhythms, endogenously-driven cycles of roughly 24 hr in length that coordinate biochemical, physiological, and behavioral processes in all organisms. Here we show for the first time that exposure to endocrine disrupting compounds（EDCs）, including the pesticide tributyltin, two commercial flame retardants, and a UV-filter chemical found in sunscreens,can perturb both circadian clocks and lipid metabolism in vertebrates. Exposure of developing zebrafish to EDCs affects core clock activity and leads to a remarkable increase in lipid accumulation that is reminiscent of the effects observed for longdaysin, a known disruptor of circadian rhythms. Our data reveal a novel obesogenic mechanism of action for environmental chemicals, an observation which warrants further research. Because circadian clocks regulate a wide variety of physiological processes, identification of environmental chemicals capable of perturbing these systems may provide important insights into the development of environmentally-induced metabolic disease.

Phosphoinositide and Inositolpolyphosphate Signalling in Defense Responses of Arabidopsis thaliana Challenged by Mechanical Wounding

Various biochemical signals are implicated in Arabidopsis wound signalling, including jasmonic acid （JA）, salicylic acid, auxin, and Ca^2＋. Here, we report on cross-talk of phytohormones with phosphoinositide signals not previously implicated in plant wound responses. Within 30 min of mechanical wounding of Arabidopsis rosette-leaves, the levels of the lipid-derived soluble inositolpolyphosphate, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate （InsP3）, increased four to five-fold. Concom- itantly, the precursor lipids, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and phosphatidylinositol transiently depleted, followed by re-synthesis after 30-60 min of stimulation. Increased InsP3 levels with wounding coincided with JA increases over the first hours of stimulation. In dde2-2-mutant plants deficient in JA biosynthesis, no InsP3 increase was observed upon wounding, indicating that JA was required for InsP3 formation, and InsP3 levels increased in wild-type plants challenged with sorbitol, increasing endogenous JA levels. In InsP 5-ptase plants with attenuated phosphoinositide signalling, the induction of wounding-inducible genes was diminished compared with wildtype plants, suggesting a role for phosphoinositide signalling in mediating plant wound responses. The gene-expression patterns suggest that phosphoinositides contribute to both JA-dependent and JA-independent aspects of wound signalling. Weight gain of Plutella xylostella caterpillars feeding on InsP 5-ptase plants was increased compared with that of caterpillars feeding on wild-type plants. The ecophysiological relevance of phosphoinositide signals in plant defense responses to herbivory is discussed in light of recent findings of inositolpolyphosphate involvement in phytohormone-receptor function.

Preparation of cross-linked magnetic chitosan with quaternary ammonium and its application for Cr(Ⅵ) and P(Ⅴ) removal

Pollutants that exist in anionic species are issues of concern in water treatment. Compared to cationic pollutants, the removal of anionic pollutants by adsorption is more difficult because most adsorbents carry predominantly negative charges in neutral and alkaline environments. In this study, a cross-linked chitosan derivative with quaternary ammonium and magnetic properties（QM-chitosan） was prepared and employed to remove chromium（VI） and phosphorus（V）（Cr（VI） and P（V）） from aqueous environments. The QM-chitosan was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry（FT-IR）,thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）, energy dispersive X-ray（SEM-EDX） and zeta *** experiments show that QM-chitosan can effectively remove Cr（VI） and P（V）, and the main mechanism was believed to be electrostatic interaction. A pseudosecond-order model was fitted to describe the kinetic processes of Cr（VI） and P（V） removal. The adsorption isotherms of both Cr（VI） and P（V） on the QM-chitosan were well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm equation. The saturated adsorption capacity of P（V）（2.783 mmol/g） was found to be higher than that of Cr（VI）（2.323 mmol/g）, resulting from the size of the H2PO-4ions being smaller than that of the HCr O-4ions. However, the theoretical calculation and experimental results showed that QM-chitosan had a stronger affinity for Cr（VI） than P（V）. The adsorption–desorption of the QM-chitosan was evaluated, and high regeneration rates were demonstrated.

Genetics of barley tiller and leaf development

In cereals, tillering and leaf development are key factors in the concept of crop ideotype, introduced in the 1960 s to enhance crop yield, via manipulation of plant architecture. In the present review, we discuss advances in genetic analysis of barley shoot architecture,focusing on tillering, leaf size and angle. We also discuss novel phenotyping techniques, such as 2 D and 3 D imaging, that have been introduced in the era of phenomics, facilitating reliable trait measurement. We discuss the identification of genes and pathways that are involved in barley tillering and leaf development,highlighting key hormones involved in the control of plant architecture in barley and rice. Knowledge on genetic control of traits related to plant architecture provides useful resources for designing ideotypes for enhanced barley yield and performance.

Cerebral malaria(CM)is a life-threatening diffuse encephalopathy caused by Plasmodium falciparum,in which the destruction of the blood–brain barrier(BBB)is the main cause of ***,increasing evidence has shown that antimalarial drugs,the current treatment for CM,do little to protect against CM-induced BBB ***,a means to alleviate BBB dysfunction would be a promising adjuvant therapy for *** adhesion molecule CD146 has been reported to be expressed in both endothelial cells and proinflammatory immune cells and mediates ***,we demonstrate that CD146 expressed on BBB endothelial cells but not immune cells is a novel therapeutic target in a mouse model of experimental cerebral malaria(eCM).Endothelial CD146 is upregulated during eCM development and facilitates the sequestration of infected red blood cells(RBCs)and/or proinflammatory lymphocytes in CNS blood vessels,thereby promoting the disruption of BBB *** studies showed that the interaction of CD146 and Galectin-9 contributes to the aggregation of infected RBCs and *** of endothelial CD146 or treatment with the anti-CD146 antibody AA98 prevents severe signs of eCM,such as limb paralysis,brain vascular leakage,and *** addition,AA98 combined with the antiparasitic drug artemether improved the cognition and memory of mice with *** together,our findings suggest that endothelial CD146 is a novel and promising target in combination with antiparasitic drugs for future CM therapies.
