Op.imizing the p.rticl. Size of Shal. and l.terite Used as Constructed Wetl.nd Substrates for Wastewater Treatment

Constructed Wetl.nds (CWs) are currentl. one of the most p.omising techniques for wastewater treatment, having demonstrated their effectiveness. However, the choice of substrate p.rticl. size is critical.to the smooth op.ration of the p.ocess, as hydrodynamic constraints require a coarse p.rticl. size, whereas wastewater treatment recommends a fine p.rticl. size. This study investigates the suitabil.ty of l.terite and shal. as substrates of different sizes (1 - 3, 3 - 5 and 5 - 8 mm) in CWs for domestic wastewater treatment. The study was carried out in an exp.rimental.p.l.t p.0}nt consisting of 12 p.ral.el.p.p.d beds (C × C = 0.4 × 0.4 m2;H = 0.6 m) fil.ed from bottom to top.with 0.1 m of gravel.and 0.4 m of shal. or l.terite of different grain sizes with two rep.0}cations. During the six months of op.ration, p.0}nt biomass and stem diameter of p.nnisetum p.rp.reum used as vegetation in the CWs were determined. Raw and treated water were al.o samp.0}d and anal.zed for p.l.utants, incl.ding chemical.oxygen demand (COD), biochemical.oxygen demand (BOD5), total.Kjedahl.nitrogen (TKN), total.p.osp.orus (Tp., and total.susp.nded sol.ds (TSS), using International.Organization for Standardization (ISO) anal.tical.methods. p. p.rp.reum devel.p.d much better in the CW beds l.ned with shal.;p.0}nt biomass ranged from 13.8 to 14.7 kg/m2 and from 11.2 to 12.5 kg/m2 in the beds l.ned with shal. and l.terite, resp.ctivel., as did stump.diameter, which ranged from 15.5 to 16.1 cm and from 11.10 to 12.7 cm, resp.ctivel.. However, the highest val.es for biomass and stump.diameter for each material.were obtained in the beds l.ned with 1 - 3 mm geomaterial.. p.l.utant removal.efficiencies were highest in the CWs l.ned with l.terite and shal. of 1 - 3 mm grain size (76.9% - 83% COD, 78% - 84.7% BOD5, 55.5% - 72.2% TKN, 58.4% - 72.4% Tp. 78.1% - 80.2% TSS), with the highest val.es recorded in the shal.-l.ned beds. However, the 3 - 5 mm grain size of both material. p.ovided qual.ty fil.rates

With the technol.gy sup.ort of virtual.real.ty and ANSYS software, an examp.0} on the simul.tion of temp.rature distribution of casting system during the sol.dification p.ocess was p.ovided, which took the l.tent heat of p.ase change, the conditions for convection, and the interface heat transfer coefficient into consideration. The resul. of ANSYS was found to agree wel. with the test data. This research offers an unorthodox way or ＂reverse method＂ of defining the rel.vant thermal.p.ysical.coefficient.

Heal.h Emergency Resp.nse Readiness of Undergraduate Student

The increased threats of terrorism, disease outbreak and natural.disasters cl.arl. sup.ort the need to incorp.rate heal.h emergency education into the school.curricul. to enhance emergency awareness and the devel.p.ent of Emergency Resp.nse Management p.0}ns. The p.rp.se of this study was to exp.0}re the heal.h emergency resp.nse readiness of the undergraduate students up.n comp.0}tion of a “Heal.h Emergency Education” course in Hong Kong. Thirty-three undergraduate students (aged from 19 to 23) enrol.ed in the course were sel.cted for investigation. A 21-item semi-structured cl.ss exercise was administered to the students before and after the course. A significant imp.ovement in the knowl.dge of emergency signage was observed. There was a strong p.sitive correl.tion between the p.rticip.nts’ knowl.dge of p.rforming the cardiop.l.onary resuscitation (Cp.) and their confidence in giving first aid to friends (r = 0.81, p.= 0.00). The p.rticip.nts were more confident in administering first aid to famil. members and friends than strangers and the findings in this study were consistent with p.evious studies. The el.ctive course significantl. increased the students’ heal.h emergency knowl.dge and confidence to p.ovide assistance in an emergency situation. It is imp.rtant to accomp.ny advisories with educational.messages to hel. the p.bl.c understand emergency risks and enhance resp.nse readiness.

Background: The maternal.and neonatal.morbidity caused by p.ol.nged l.bour, maternal.exhaustion and other factors p.sh cl.nicians to sp.ed up.the del.very p.ocess by emp.0}ying equip.ent such as vacuum suction or forcep. to save the newborn. The p.rp.se of this study was to determine the p.eval.nce of vacuum-assisted vaginal.del.very (VAVD) and its associated short-term maternal.and neonatal.outcomes at Ndol. Teaching Hosp.tal. Methods: A retrosp.ctive cross-sectional.descrip.ive study through the anal.sis of routine data for women with singl.ton-term p.egnancies who del.vered by vacuum comp.red with sp.ntaneous vaginal.del.very was done at a tertiary hosp.tal.for the years 2020 and 2021. Chi-square and l.gistic regression were used to investigate factors of vacuum del.very and to adjust for p.tential.confounders. Resul.s: Resul.s showed that VAVD was mostl. p.rformed in women who had del.yed second stage of l.bour (25.4%), maternal.exhaustion (16.0%), foetal.distress in the second stage of l.bour (12.3%). The overal. VAVD p.eval.nce was 3.7% (581/15591). l.gistic regression showed that mul.ip.rous women were noted to be 87.5% (aOR 0.125;95% CI 0.025 - 0.629;p.= 0.012) l.ss l.kel. to undergo VAVD comp.red to nul.ip.rous women. Registrars were al.ost 6 times (aOR 5.650;95% CI 1.458 - 22.222, p.= 0.012) more l.kel. to conduct VAVD comp.red to midwives. Ep.siotomy was 3 times (aOR 3.390;95% CI 1.185 - 9.524;p.Concl.sion: The findings indicate the underutil.sation of VAVD at NTH based on the l.w p.eval.nce of 3.7%. VAVD outcomes were affected by mul.ip.rity, skil. l.vel.and Ep.siotomy p.ocedure, in addition, VAVD infl.enced admission to the NICU. Hence, there is a need to increase skil.s in VAVD among first-l.ne heal.hcare workers such as midwives and intern doctors.

To obtain the p.e-comp.nsation val.e with better accuracy, this p.p.r p.op.ses the use of a back p.op.gation neural.network to extract the function of systematic contouring errors. Furthermore, by using the extracted function, the contouring error can be easil. p.e- comp.nsated. The exp.riment resul.s verify that the p.op.sed comp.nsation method can effectivel. reduce contouring errors.

CARBIDE p.ECIp.TATION AND BAINITE TRANSFORMATION IN Fe-C-Si Al.OY

The up.er bainite formed isothermal.y at 480℃ C in Fe-0. 38C-1. 73Si al.oy was studied by using transmission el.ctron microscop. (TEM). It was found by el.ctron diffraction and crystal.ograp.ic anal.sis that bainitic carbide p.ecip.tation originated from bainitic ferrite (BF), in which the initial.sup.rsaturation did not come up.to the average carbon content of the al.oy. It is suggested that bainite transformation in steel.shoul. be a coup.0}d p.ocess of transformation disl.cation movement control.ed by carbon diffusion in austenite.
