S-allyl-L-cysteine (SAC) is an organosulfur compound derived from aged garlic extract (AGE). Studies have reported that AGE possesses bioprotective capacity, including antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antitumor effects. The present study examined the protective effects of SAC against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Ten male Wistar rats aged 11 - 12 weeks were randomly divided into two groups (five rats/group) as control and SAC groups. All rats had ad libitum access to water, and the SAC group received water containing SAC intragastrically (200 mg/kg) once daily for five consecutive weeks. In the fifth experimental week, 50% CCl4 in olive oil (1 mL/kg) was administered intraperitoneally three times a week to induce liver injury in both groups. Rats were sacrificed at 24 hours after the last CCl4ily:Verdana;"> injection, and liver tissues were excised for histopathological, immunohistochemical and antioxidant analyses. The thermal-environment characteristics of the existing forced-convection cooling system were compared with those of the convective cooling system, which combined the radiant-floor cooling system using floor-heating panel typically applied to apartments in South Korea with the forced-convection cooling system using improved fan coil unit. The subjective warm/cool-feeling responses to the combined radiant-floor and convective cooling system in the questionnaire survey conducted among the test subjects were analyzed to establish the basic data for the combined cooling system. The results show that in the thermal-equilibrium condition, the vertical air temperature difference in the model living room is larger in the forced-convection-cooling condition. Most of the subjects feel a proper warm/cool feeling on their entire body, but they feel colder on the foot and lower body in the combined-cooling condition.

The cement dispersion performance of a polycarboxylate(PCE)-based superplasticizer is highly related to their adsorption behaviors as a function of *** study evaluated effects of PCEs on rheological properties of cementitious ***,characteristics of PCEs were characterized via permeation chromatography(GPC)and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry(FT-IR).The adsorption behavior of single and blended PCEs on cementitious composites was identified using total organic carbon analyzer(TOC).Based on the measurement of PCE adsorption,the changes of rheological properties of cementitious materials as well as the number of dispersed cement particles were characterized using a rheometer and laser spectroscopy,*** experimental results support the systematic mechanism of PCE adsorption,cement dispersion,and the decrease in viscosity of cementitious materials.

Recently, urban high temperature phenomenon has become a problem which results from human activities, the increase in energy consumption, and land-cover change in urban areas. As extremely hot weather caused by urban high temperature continues, demand for power is increased and results in the degradation of electricity reserves. The current trend in climate change, regardless of the summer and winter power demand, is likely to have much effect on the power demand. Thus, sensitivity to electricity consumption in urban areas due to climate change was researched. The results show that, 1） the basic unit of the sensitivity to electricity consumption in the target areas is 1.25-1.58W/（m2.℃）; 2） The maximum sensitivity is recorded at around 8：00 pm in the area crowded with commercial and business area. And in the business area, electricity consumption load is even from 9：00 am to 6：00 pm.

Two-dimensional(2D) transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs) have emerged as promising alternatives to the platinum-based catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). The edge site of these2D materials exhibits HER-active properties, whereas the large-area basal plane is ***, recent studies and methodologies have been investigated to improve the performance of TMD-based materials by activating inactive sites through elemental doping strategies. In this review,we focus on the metal and non-metal dopant effects on group VI TMDs such as MoS_(2) MoSe_(2) WS_(2)and WSe_(2) for promoting HER performances in acidic electrolytes. A general introduction to the HER is initially provided to explain the parameters in accessing the catalytic performance of dopedTMDs. Then, synthetic methods for doped-TMDs and their HER performances are introduced in order to understand the effect of various dopants including metallic and non-metallic elements. Finally, the current challenges and future opportunities are summarized to provide insights into developing highly active and stable doped-TMD materials and valuable guidelines for engineering TMD-based nanocatalysts for practical water splitting technologies.

Two-dimensional reduced graphene oxide-titania （RGO-TiO2） composites were prepared using a single- step hydrothermal method under various hydrothermal reaction conditions. The morphological and surface characteristics of the RGO-TiO2 composites and reference materials were determined. The RGO-TiO2 composites showed photocatalytic activity for the decomposition of two target pollutants that was superior to both pure TiO2 and RGO under fluorescent daylight lamp illumination. The photo- catalytic activity of the RGO-TiO2 composite increased as the hydrothermal treatment time increased from 1 to 24 h, but then it decreased as the time increased to 36 h, which indicated the presence of an optimal treatment time. RGO-TiO2 composites activated by violet light-emitting diodes （LEDs） displayed lower decomposition efficiency than those activated by a daylight lamp, likely because of the lower light intensity of violet LEDs （0.2 mW/cm2） when compared with that of the daylight lamp （1.4mW/cm2）. However, the photocatalytic decomposition of the target pollutants using the RGO-TiO2 composite was more energy-efficient using the violet LEDs. The photocatalytic reaction rates increased as the residence time decreased, whereas the reverse was true for the decomposition efficiency.

This work aims at finding pedestrian walking characteristics at U-type stairs according to the width change of stairs and appropriate spot for installing piezoelectric energy *** number of pedestrian at two kinds of stairs(one is stairs with 1.5 m in width and the other is stairs with 3 m in width) was estimated by calculating the number of steps on the stairs by a zone which is divided into 30 cm×30 *** result shows high density in the middle in the case of narrow stairs but traffic is concentrated on stair inside(pillar side) in stairs with large *** conclusion,the location for installation of piezoelectric energy harvesting system should be considered differently on stairs width and the number of installation depends on total expected traffic and the expected traffic for a device.

In this study,the correlation between simulated and measured radar velocity spectrum width(σ_(v))is *** results show that the dendrites growth zones(DGZs)and needles growth zones(NGZs)mostly contain dendrites(DN)and needles(NE),***σ_(v) zones(1.11.2 m s^(-1),a differential reflectivity(ZDR)higher than 0 dB,and a cross-correlation coefficient(ρhv)less than *** contrast,prolate particles with relatively uniform shapes were observed in the NGZ withσ_(v)<0.6 m s^(-1),a ZDR less than 0 dB,andρhv higher than *** simulation results show that the DN exhibited a largerσ_(v) compared to the NE,and this observedσ_(v) was strongly dependent on the wind fluctuations(v’)due to turbulence or wind *** contrast,the NE exhibited a significantly smallσ_(v)~0.55 m s^(-1),which converges irrespective of v’.In addition,a strong correlation between the measuredσ_(v) values at five radar elevation angles(θ=6.2°,9.1°,13.1°,19°,and 80°)and those simulated in this study confirmed the significance of the analysis results.
