Objective:To evaluate the combination therapy of pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate against Babesia in vitro and in ***:Bioinformatic analysis was performed using atom pair *** in vitro combination test was performed against Babesia bovis and Theileria ***,the in vivo chemotherapeutic efficacy of pyronaridine tetraphosphate in combination with diminazene aceturate was investigated against the growth of Babesia microti in mice using a fluorescence inhibitory ***:Pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate exhibited nearly similar molecular *** in vitro combination of pyronaridine tetraphosphate and diminazene aceturate was synergistic on Babesia bovis and additive on Theileria *** addition,5 mg/kg pyronaridine tetraphosphate combined with 10 mg/kg diminazene aceturate inhibited Babesia microti growth significantly compared with those observed after treatment with 25 mg/kg diminazene aceturate alone from day 6 post treatment to day 12 post *** combination therapy also normalized the hematological parameters of infected ***:An oral dose of pyronaridine tetraphosphate combined with a subcutaneous dose of diminazene aceturate inhibits Babesia in vitro and in mice,suggesting it might be a new paradigm for the treatment of babesiosis.

It has been reported that host defense responses, such as phagocytic function of neutrophils and natural killer (NK) cell activity of lymphocytes, are impaired in cirrhotic patients. This review will concentrate on the impairment of innate immune responses in decompensated cirrhotic patients and the effect of the treatment by branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) on innate immune responses. We already reported that phagocytic function of neutrophils was significantly improved by 3-mo BCAA supplementation. In addition, the changes of NK activity were also significant at 3 mo of supplementation compared with before supplementation. Also, Fisher’s ratios were reported to be significantly increased at 3 mo of BCAA supplementation compared with those before oral supplementation. Therefore, administration of BCAA could reduce the risk of bacterial and viral infection in patients with decompensated cirrhosis by restoring impaired innate immune responses of the host. In addition, it was also revealed that BCAA oral supplementation could reduce the risk of development of hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhotic patients. The mechanisms of the effects will also be discussed in this review article.

Particle breakage is a common occurrence in granular systems when the external stress exceeds the individual particle strength.A large number of experimental evidences suggested that particle breakage may significantly influence the soil *** the case of pile foundations,the subsoil below the pile tip experiences considerable high stress and consequently prone to *** to the lack of sufficient understanding on particle breakage mechanism,there is currently no consentaneous theoretical background for particle breakage analysis during the pile penetration *** study aims to clarify the location of particle breakage and its evolving characteristics with the aid of acoustic emission(AE)source location *** spatial distribution of AE hypocenters is interpreted to be associated with the mechanism of particle *** showed that the AE sources were not uniformly distributed,but concentrated within certain zones below the pile *** AE concentration zone was pushed downward with the advancing pile tip,and its distance from the real time pile tip position decreased after certain depth of pile *** location of particle breakage interpreted from AE source location was verified with posttest excavations and the insights on the particle breakage evolution zone were further discussed.

Strigolactones(SLs)are plant hormones that regulate the branching of plants and seed germination stimulants of root parasitic *** root parasites are a great threat to agricultural production,the use of SL agonists could be anticipated to provide an efficient method for regulating root parasites as suicidal germination inducers.A series of phenoxyfuranone-type SL mimics,termed debranones,has been reported to show potent bioactivities,including reduction of the tiller number on rice,and stimulation of seed germination in the root parasite Striga *** exert both activities,two substituents on the phenyl ring of the molecules were important but at least a substituent at the 2-position must be an electron-withdrawing ***,little is known about the effect of the properties of the substituents at the 2-position on ***,we found that different substituents at the 2-position give different preferences for *** debranones were more effective than the others and SL agonist GR24 for inhibiting rice tiller but far less effective in the induction of *** ***,nitrile and methyl derivatives clearly stimulated the germination of *** *** their IC_(50) values were 100 times higher than that of GR24 in the receptor competitive binding assay,their physiological activities were approximately 1/10 of *** differences could be due to their uptake in plants and/or their physicochemical stability under our experimental *** findings could support the design of more potent and selective SL agonists that could contribute to solving big agricultural issues.

Recent progress in the development of thermodynamic and kinetic databases of micro-soldering alloys,which were constructed within the framework of the Thermo-Calc and DICTRA software,was ***,a thermodynamic tool, ADAMIS(alloy database for micro-solders) was developed by combining the thermodynamic databases of micro-solders with Pandat,a multi-component phase diagram calculation software *** contains 11 elements,namely,Ag,Al,Au,Bi,Cu, In,Ni,Sb,Sn,Zn and Pb,and can handle all combinations of these elements in the whole composition *** obtained thermodynamic and kinetic databases can not only provide much valuable thermodynamic information such as phase equilibria and phase fraction,but also shows the kinetics and the evolution of microstructures when they are combined with some appropriate software programs and models,such as the phase field method and ADSTEFAN *** the viewpoints of computational thermodynamics and kinetics,some technical examples were given to demonstrate the great utility of these databases for the applications in the development of micro-soldering *** databases are expected to be powerful tools for the development of micro-solders and Cu substrate materials,as well as for promoting the understanding of interfacial phenomena and microstructure evolution between solders and substrates in electronic packaging technology.

In modern society, the population, wealth and social functions are increasingly concentrated in a few large cities. Such concentration brings about efficiency while at the same time it increases the vulnerability of the society. To address this issue, the Science Council of Japan（SCJ） published a proposal entitled ＂Shape Cities and Societies Safer against Severe Earthquakes＂. It makes a variety of suggestions for enhancing the seismic resilience of large cities, including：（1） comprehensive thinking based on the latest scientific knowledge and rich imagination;（2） selection of sites suitable for residence and social activities;（3） introducing the urban seismic coefficient;（4） promoting the enhancement of the seismic performance of buildings and civil structures;（5） easing the concentration of population and functions;（6） building communities that enable shelter and escape;（7） resilient technology of information and communication system and its effective utilization;（8） preparation and implementation of emergency response after earthquakes;（9） development and application of new structural seismic technology;（10） learning from domestic and foreign earthquake disasters and launching of international cooperation and knowledge sharing and（11） taking actions from a multidisciplinary perspective. The proposal is introduced in this paper.

Using Becker's method, we calculate the interfacial energy between two liquid phases in an immiscible system. Based on the Gibbs-Thomson equation, the force acting on the droplet towards the thermal center can be obtained by integrating the interfacial energy between the droplet and matrix liquid phase, which is related to both the radius of a droplet and the temperature gradient. In addition, the forces of gravitation and buoyancy also act on the droplet. The calculated results indicate that the resultant for these forces together mainly decides the microstructure morphology of the solidified alloy. The calculated results are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results.

Two new Fe-Cr system alloys,Fe-20Cr-43Ni-10P（mass%）and Fe-20Cr-20Ni-8P-5Si-2Mo（mass%）,have been developed as substitutes for the expensive Ni-based brazing filler metal used in brazing exhaust gas recirculation *** microstructures and melting properties of the alloys were analyzed by electron probe X-ray microanalyzer and differential scanning *** electrochemical characteristics of the alloys were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization testing in an electrolyte solution made in accordance with the standards of the Automobile Manufacturers Association of ***,the corrosion behaviors of the alloys were investigated by constant-potential polarization testing and surface *** is found that both alloys are composed of solid-solution phases and phosphide *** solid-solution phases serve as the anode,and the phosphide phases serve as the cathode in the corrosion reaction for both ***-20Cr-43Ni-10 P exhibits galvanic corrosion on the entire *** contrast,Fe-20Cr-20Ni-8P-5Si-2Mo is attacked at a few localized areas so that the cavities form on the *** corrosion potential（E_（corr）） is lower than that of Ni-29Cr-6P-4Si（mass%）for both *** means that the Fe-Cr system alloys are more easily corroded than *** corrosion rate and corrosion resistance cannot be investigated by the corrosion current density（i_（corr）） and polarization resistance（R_p）,respectively,because of localized corrosion of the two alloys.

We studied experimentally the effect of microwaves （MWs） on the enhancement of plasma emission achieved by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy （LIBS）. A laser plasma was generated on a calcium oxide pellet by a Nd：YAG laser （5 m J, 532 nm, 8 ns） in reduced-pressure argon surrounding gas. A MW radiation （400 W） was injected into the laser plasma via a loop antenna placed immediately above the laser plasma to enhance the plasma emission. The results confirmed that when tile electromagnetic field was introduced into the laser plasma region by the MWs, the lifetime of the plasma was extended from 50 to 500 μs, similar to the MW duration. Furthermore, the plasma temperature and electron density increased to approximately 10900 K and 1.5×10^18 cm^-3, respectively and the size of the plasma emission was extended to 15 mm in diameter. As a result, the emission intensity of Ca lines obtained using LIBS with MWs was enhanced by approximately 200 times compared to the case of LIBS without MWs.
