Objective: It is important to minimize the risk of major vascular injury during pneumoperitoneumestablishment in laparoscopic surgeries for patients with unusual variations in the levels of theabdominal aorta, the inferior vena cava (IVC), and the left renal vein, which will decrease the morbidityand mortality. The study aims to assess the variations regarding the bifurcation level of the abdominalaorta, formation level of the IVC, and insertion level of the left renal vein into the ***: This retrospective study was conducted on 100 patients (50 males and 50 females) referred tothe Department of Radiology, Jordan University Hospital for abdomino-pelvic CT with intra-venouscontrast from January 2018 to December 2019. The three vessels were determined on the axial plane,the coronal plane, and the midsagittal plane. The central vertebral body height as well as the distance ofthe level of the point of interest to the upper end plate of the vertebrae were measured. Afterwards, theresults were classified into the following categories, upper end plate, lower end plate, intervertebral disc,upper half, and lower half of the ***: The aortic bifurcation was mainly found at the level of the L4 vertebral body (65, 65%). In theremaining cases, the bifurcation was found to be variably located spanning from L3 in 11 (11%) cases to3 (3%) cases at L5. As for the iliocaval junction, the most common site was also at the level of L4 with41 (41%) cases followed by 39 (39%) cases at the level of L5, and 20 (20%) cases at the intervertebral discof L4/L5. The left renal vein most commonly joined the IVC at the level of L1 with 62 (62%) cases followedby 20 (20%) cases at the intervertebral disc T12/L1. The availability in the soil of potassium(K^(+)),a poorly mobile macronutrient required in large quantities for plant growth,is generally suboptimal for crop production in the absence of fertilization,making improvement of the ability of crops to adapt to K^(+)deficiency stress a major *** the uptake capacity of the root system is among the main strategies to achieve this ***,we report an integrative approach to examine the effect of K^(+)deficiency on the development of young plant entire root system,including root hairs which are known to provide a significant contribution to the uptake of poorly mobile nutrients such as K^(+),in two genetically distant wheat varieties.A rhizobox-type methodology was developed to obtain highly-resolved images of root and root hairs,allowing to describe global root and root hair traits over the whole root system via image analysis *** two wheat varieties responded differently to the K^(+)shortage:Escandia,a wheat ancestor,reduced shoot biomass in condition of K^(+)shortage and substantially increased the surface area of its root system,specifically by increasing the total root hair *** Zenati,a landrace,conversely appeared unresponsive to the K^(+)shortage but was shown to constitutively express,independently of the external K^(+)availability,favorable traits to cope with reduced K^(+)availability,among which a high total root hair ***,valuable information on root system adaptation to K^(+)deficiency was provided by global analyses including root hairs,which should also be relevant for other nutrient stresses.

Background: The suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis by cortisol-secreting adrenocortical tumors is well recognized and requires peri- and postoperative hydrocortisone substitution. Case Presentation: A 48-year-old female patient with hypertension and progressive weight gain, the clinical signs of hypercorticism motivated a hormonal workup revealing an independent ACTH Cushing’s syndrome: with urinary free cortisol (UFC) at 649 nmol/24h (4× normal), adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH) at 1.5 ng/l. The rest of the hormonal workup was not performed due to a lack of financial means. An Adrenal CT scan showed a 4 cm right adrenal adenoma. The patient underwent a right adrenalectomy with an adrenal adenoma on pathological examination. The contralateral side was normal. The patient was treated with hydrocortisone 30 mg/d for 6 weeks then 15 mg/d, during the monitoring we noted a persistence of the adrenal insufficiency for now 4 years. Basal cortisol levels during follow-up were very low (<3 μg/dl) ruling out the need for synacthen stimulation tests. Conclusion: Adrenal cortisol tumors are recognized by suppression, the duration of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression is variable from 11 to 60 months depending on the series, which depends on the duration, severity of hypercortisolism, tumor size and other unknown factors. A longer follow-up of these patients is necessary to look for recovery of the contralateral adrenal gland.

The acquisition of secondary chromosomal aberrations in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) karyotype signifies clonal evolution associated with the progression of the disease to its accelerated or blastic phase. Therefore, these aberrations have clinical and biological significance. T(3;12)(q26;p13), which is a recurrent chromosomal aberration observed in myeloid malignancies, is typically associated with dysplasia of megakaryocytes, multilineage involvement, short duration of any blastic phase, and extremely poor prognosis. We have identified a recurrent reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 3 and 12 with different breakpoint at bands 3q21 in the malignant cells from a 28-year-old man. The patient was initially diagnosed as having Ph+ CML in the chronic phase. The t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation occurred 4 years after the patient was first diagnosed with CML while undergoing tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. We confirmed the t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation via fluorescence in situ hybridization assay by using whole-chromosome paint probes for chromosomes 3 and 12. Our findings demonstrate that, similar to other recurrent translocations involving 3q26 such as t(3;3) and t(3;21), the t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation is implicated not only in myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia but also in the progression of CML. These findings extend the disease spectrum of this cytogenetic aberration.

AIM： To study whether N-acetyltransferase 2 （NAT2） genotypes and phenotypes are associated with increased risk factor for gastric cancer in Omani patients and to study the clinico-pathological correlations and the prognostic significance of NAT2. METHODS： Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 100 gastric cancer patients and 100 control subjects. NAT2 genotyping was performed using DNA sequencing. The prognostic significance of NAT2 and other clinicopathological features was assessed by univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS： We observed no significant association between NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes and gastric cancer risk. The IVAT2 phenotype polymorphisms and gastric cancer risk predisposition were not modified by concomitant Hpylori infection and smoking. There was no significant association between NAT2 and clinicopathological features, and NAT2 had no independent prognostic significance. CONCLUSION： In the current study, NAT2 genotypes and phenotypes are not associated with gastric cancer risk predisposition. Moreover NAT2 phenotypes had no clinicopathological associations or prognostic significance.

We identified and quantified a variety of mineral elements in 18 tobacco samples purchased from a Tunisian market. In total, 25 mineral elements have been measured in cigarettes, water pipe tobacco, and smokeless tobacco using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy following microwave-assisted digestion. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSSTM, version 18.0. The lowest concentrations of all studied elements were observed in water pipe tobacco. Significantly higher concentrations of Al, Fe, Mg, Na, Ca, Cr, and Co were found in smokeless tobacco, while cigarettes brands contained the highest concentrations of K, Mn, Ni, Ba, and Sr. There was no significant difference between the mineral contents of local and foreign cigarettes and conventional and light cigarettes. Our findings demonstrated that local smokeless tobacco appears to be the most hazardous tobacco type. The concentration of minerals in light cigarettes was not significantly different from the concentration in conventional cigarettes.

AIM:To investigate the associations between CDH1 gene polymorphisms and gastric cancer(GC) risk ***:We analyzed four CDH1 polymorphisms(+54 T>C,-160 C>A,-616 G>C,-3159 T>C) in an Omani population,by extraction of genomic DNA from the peripheral blood of 192 patients with GC and 170 control participants and performed CDH1 genotyping using DNA ***:CDH1-160-AA genotype was associated with an increased risk of GC(OR = 3.6,95% CI:1.1-11.8)(P = 0.03).There was no significant association between the other polymorphisms and GC *** haplotype analysis of +54 T>C,-160 C>A,-616 G>C,-3159 T>C genotypes revealed that the OR of CCGC and CAGC haplotypes was 1.5(95% CI:0.7-3.5) and 1.5(95% CI:0.2-3.0),but did not reach statistical ***:The current study suggests that the-160 AA genotype was associated with an increased risk of GC in Oman.

Objective To explore the additive effect of neurodegenerative diseases,measured by atrophy,on neurocognitive function in Asian dementia-free elderly with cerebrovascular disease(CeVD).Methods The present study employed a cross-sectional design and was conducted between 2010 and 2015 among community-dwelling elderly participants recruited into the *** participants were evaluated with an extensive neuropsychological battery and *** weighted CeVD burden scale comprising markers of both small-and large-vessel diseases was applied,with a score of≥2,indicating significant CeVD *** atrophy(CA)and medial temporal atrophy(MTA)were graded using the global cortical atrophy scale and Schelten's scale,*** and domain-specific(attention,executive function,language,visuomotor speed,visuoconstruction,visual memory,and verbal memory)neurocognitive performance was measured using a locally validated neuropsychological battery(Vascular Dementia Battery,VDB).Results A total of 819 dementia-free participants were included in the *** none-mild CeVD subjects,there was no significant difference in the global cognitive performance across atrophy groups(no atrophy,CA,and CA+MTA).However,in moderate-severe CeVD subjects,CA+MTA showed significantly worse global cognitive performance compared with those with CA alone(mean difference=?0.35,95%CI?0.60 to?0.11,p=0.002)and those without atrophy(mean difference=?0.46,95%CI?0.74 to?0.19,p<0.001,p<0.001).In domain-specific cognitive performance,subjects with CA+MTA performed worse than other groups in visual memory(p=0.005),executive function(p=0.001)and visuomotor speed(p<0.001)in moderate-severe CeVD but not in none-mild *** and relevance Atrophy and moderate-severe CeVD burden showed an additive effect on global and domain-specific cognitive *** study highlights the importance of investigating the mechanisms of clinico-pathological interactions between neurodegen

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the vasodilatory effect of Chenopodium ambrosioides on the isolated rat aorta, and to explore its mechanism of ***: The vasorelaxant effect and the mode of action of various extracts from the leaves of C. ambrosioides were evaluated on thoracic aortic rings isolated from Wistar rats. In addition, ethyl acetate and methanol fractions were analyzed, using thin-layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography techniques, for their polyphenolic ***: The various active extracts of C. ambrosioides at four concentrations(10^(-3), 10^(-2), 10^(-1) and 1 mg/mL) relaxed the contraction elicited by phenylephrine, in a concentration-dependent *** effect seems to be endothelium-dependent, since the vasodilatory effect was entirely absent in denuded aortic rings. The vasorelaxant effect of the methanol fraction(MF) of C. ambrosioides at 1 mg/mL was also inhibited by atropine and tetraethylammonium. This effect remained unchanged by Nx-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride and glibenclamide. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed that the leaves of C. ambrosioides are rich in phenolic and flavonoid ***: These results suggest that the MF of C. ambrosioides produces an endothelium-dependent relaxation of the isolated rat aorta, which is thought to be mediated mainly through stimulation of the muscarinic receptors, and probably involving the opening of Ca^(2+)-activated potassium channels.
