Variability in Spatial Distribution of Precipitation Overall Rugged Topography of Lebanon, Using TRMM Images

Rain gages data represents limited spatial coverage, especially in rugged terrains like Lebanon. Other precipitation data sources are the developing satellite and radar technologies. In this study, Tropical Rain Measurement Mission (TRMM) monthly rainfall data of 18 years (1998-2014 and 2017) was used to understand monthly and yearly precipitation spatial distribution overall Lebanon. Topographic effect of rainfall spatial distribution was investigated in comparison to Plassard’s map of 1971. The annual precipitation over the country ranged between 850 mm and 200 mm that differs than the existing historical map. The maximum rainfall rate decreased by about 700 mm between the derived TRMM rainfall map and Plassard’s one. Spatial distribution of maximum precipitation rates does not coincide between maps. TRMM map of elevated terrains did not show similar trends of rainfall distribution as Plassard’s. Pixels (Lebanon was divided into 27 pixels) of lower rainfall rates was found toward the eastern side of Lebanon, in contrast to Plassard’s results. Anti-Lebanon did not show an increase in precipitation in accordance to altitude. Spatial variability of precipitation was about 50 mm between pixels which reveals the importance of considering topography while implemented rain gages as observation points. TRMM and satellite rainfall data aid in investigating complete spatial distribution of rainfall over continuous periods. Accumulating knowledge of spatial rainfall distribution on timely basis will lead to better future modelling on floods and drought conditions in Lebanon.

Background: Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors are an uncommon heterogeneous group of tumors with different biological behaviors and clinico-patho- logic aspects. Aim of the Work: This study will review the clinico-pathologic aspects of sex-cord stromal ovarian tumors at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo University, Egypt, as well as their management and follow-up regarding disease free survival and overall survival. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the National Cancer Institute Cairo University, Egypt on female patients with ovarian sex cord stromal tumors in the period from January 2008 to December 2012 with a follow-up period of 24 to 84 months. The age of the patients, different clinical presentations, radiological findings, associated uterine bleeding (need for endometrial biopsy), pre-operative CA125 levels, surgical management done, different histopathological types, different biological behaviors, presence of ascites (and its correlation with the histopathology), Adjuvant chemotherapy (according to biological behavior and pathological type), and follow-up of non-benign cases for up to 84 months will all be documented and studied. Results: The mean age at presentation was 47.34;abdominal pain and mass were the commonest presentations 54.5% and 53.2% respectively;the main radiologic findings were a pelvic mass +/- ascites which had no correlation to the pathological type (p = 0.075). Endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma were associated with 22% and 2.5% of cases respectively. Stages I and II represented 95% of patients with non-benign tumors (48 patients). Panhysterectomy +/- infracolic omentectomy or fertility sparing surgery were done in 70.1% and 29.9% of patients respectively. AGCTs were the commonest pathological type (49.4%). Accurately quantifying SOC （soil organic carbon） store in soils is considered fundamental to global climate change modeling, notably in soil forest ecosystems in relation to land cover/use change, forest fires and sustainable land management practices. Lebanese soils were described as relatively poor in organic matter content. This work used Landsat and IRS （Indian Remote Sensing） to classify land cover and land use, field survey to map the soil cover and assess carbon stock in the Lebanese soil and forest ecosystems and link the frequency of forest fires with the soil nature and land cover land use to assess the resulting risk of SOC loss from the soil pool. SOC density and stock was assessed using information from 450 soil profiles and the average OC content in a given soil type was calculated involving organic matter content in the soil, bulk density, soil thickness and the content of coarse fragments to produce the national SOC stock map. A total of 11 soil types （major classes） represented the mapping units describing the higher soil component or major classes were identified in Lebanon. The higher standard deviation observed in Luvisols reflects soil diversity, history and different management. Comparing the results of surface soil layer with the overall SOC density and stock in Lebanese soils showed a good correlation （0.98） between the OC stock within the upper soil layer and in the 100 cm depth, indicating the absolute role of the upper, biologically most active soil layer in the organic matter accumulation and carbon sequestration. Observation over a pilot area in the High Meten showed the calcareous soil group consists of Luvisols with associated Cambisols. Soil units representing the transition between the two soil groups are markedly affected by erosion-deposition processes. AIM： To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of histological evaluation of pancreatic tissue samples obtained by a modified method for recovering and processing the endoscopic ultrasound （EUS）-guided fine needle aspiration （FNA） material in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic solid masses. METHODS： Sixty-two consecutive patients with pancreatic masses were prospectively studied. EUS was performed by the linear scanning Pentax FG-38UX echoendoscope. Three FNAs （22G needle） were carried out during each procedure. The materials obtained with first and second punctures were processed for cytological study. Haterials of the third puncture were recovered into 10% formol solution by careful injection of saline solution through the needle, and processed for histological study. RESULTS： Length of the core specimen obtained for histological analysis was 6.5±5.3 mm （range 1-22 mm）. Cytological and histological samples were considered as adequate in 51 （82.3%） and 52 cases （83.9%）, respectively. Overall sensitivity of both pancreatic cytology and histology for diagnosis of malignancy was 68.4%. Conbary to cytology, histology was able to diagnose tumours other than adenocarcinomas, and all cases of inflammatory masses. Combination of cytology and histology allowed obtaining an adequate sample in 56 cases （90.3%）, with a global sensitivity of 84.21%, specificity of 100% and an overall accuracy of 90.32%. The complication rate was 1.6%.CONCLUSION： Adequate pancreatic core specimens for histological examination can be obtained by EUS-guided FNA. This technique is mainly useful for the diagnosis of different types of pancreatic tumours and evaluation of benign diseases.

For decades, kidney diseases related to inappropriate complement activity, such as atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome and C3 glomerulopathy(a subtype of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis), have mostly been complicated by worsened prognoses and rapid progression to end-stage renal failure. Alternative complement pathway dysregulation, whether congenital or acquired, is well-recognized as the main driver of the disease process in these patients. The list of triggers include: surgery, infection, immunologic factors, pregnancy and medications. The advent of complement activation blockade, however, revolutionized the clinical course and outcome of these diseases, rendering transplantation a viable option for patients who were previously considered as non-transplantable *** less-costly therapeutic lines and likely better efficacy and safety profiles are currently underway. In view of the challenging nature of diagnosing these diseases and the long-term cost implications, a multidisciplinary approach including the nephrologist, renal pathologist and the genetic laboratory is required to help improve overall care of these patients and draw the optimum therapeutic plan.

Multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) is a rare clinical condition where a patient is diagnosed with two or more cancers around the same time. Published literature reported the incidence of multiple primaries is in the range of 2% - 17%. The risk factors for MPMs are smoking, chronic alcoholism, genetic factors and previous treatment of cancer using radiotherapy that may lead to the development of other cancer. This case report describes a rare and unfortunate case of middle-aged Malaysian Chinese lady diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the uterus and around the same time she had a recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma which was first diagnosed and treated 11 years ago. There were no clear risk factors identified in her and she defaulted follow up which eventually led to a fatal complication in which the nasopharyngeal cancer caused massive bleeding in her and she finally succumbed to the complication despite emergency resuscitations.

Campylobacter jejuni is a prominent bacterial cause of human gastroenteritis. Campylobacteriosis outbreaks reported were related to the ingestion of the contaminated food. Meat are reported to be frequently infected with C. jejuni. It is well recognized that C. jejuni is one of the main causes of gastroenteritis in humans, and poultry meat is reported to be the main source. A number of studies in several countries have shown the occurrence of C. jejuni in animal farms, slaughterhouses, and meat. This review simply describes the occurrence, spreading, and public health significance of C. jejuni.

Data Envelopment Analysis （DEA） is a powerful mathematical optimization method widely used for measuring, evaluating and improving the performance of Decision Making Units （DMUs）. These used in the various forms, such as hospitals, government agencies, educational institutions, air force, bank branches, business finns, sport teams and even people including the performance of countries, regions, etc. Recently DEA has been extended to examine the performance through the different sport types. In this paper, a Stochastic Input Oriented Data Envelopment Analysis （SIODEA） Model is conducted for measuring and evaluating the relative efficiency scores of football teams selected from different European countries during 2014/2015 season each with some of inputs are stochastic with normally distributed and recent inputs are deterministic and outputs, to shed light on the professional football teams performance.
