Cholangiocellular cancer(CCC)is an oncological disease of the bile ducts characterized by a high mortality *** date,the use of standard methods for the diagnosis and treatment of CCC has not been able to reduce mortality from this *** work presents the results of fluorescence diagnostics(FD),which consists in using a modified optical fiber and photodynamic therapy(PDT)using a therapeutic laser instead of a low-intensity *** technique was tested on 43 patients in a clinical *** results obtained indicate a direct correlation between spectroscopic and video FD ***,a direct correlation was found between the photobleaching of a chlorin e6-based photosensitizer,with the commercial names of PhotoIon Radachlorin and Photoran and stricture *** findings demonstrate the possibility of using a therapeutic laser with a wavelength of 660 nm for both diagnosis and treatment of bile ducts cancer,which results in a significant reduction of the operation time without decreasing its effectiveness.

Although considerable conservation resources have been committed to develop and use law enforcement monitoring and management tools such as SMART,measures of success are ill-defined and,to date,few reports detail results ***,we present 4 case studies from protected areas with Amur tigers(Panthera tigris altaica)in Russia,in which indicators of success were defined and evaluated at *** ultimate goal was an increase in tiger numbers to 1 individual/100 km^(2)at each *** predicted that improvements in law enforcement effectiveness would be followed by increases in prey numbers and,subsequently,tiger *** used short-term and long-term indicators of success,including:(i)patrol team effort and effectiveness;(ii)catch per unit effort indicators(to measure reductions in threats);and(iii)changes in target species *** addition to implementing a monitoring system,we focused on improving law enforcement management using an adaptive management *** 4 years,we noted clear increases in patrol effort and a partial reduction in *** we did not detect clear trends in ungulate numbers,tiger populations remained stable or increased,suggesting that poaching of tigers may be more limiting than prey *** effectiveness is needed before a clear reduction in threats can be noted,and more time is needed before detecting responses in target ***,delineation of concrete goals and indicators of success provide a means of evaluating progress and *** monitoring should be a central component of law enforcement strategies for protected areas.

Functional Activity of Circulating Phagocytes as Potential Pretreatment Marker of Tumor Drug Resistance

The aim of this work was a study of the functional activity of neutrophils and peripheral blood monocytes in rats with the transplanted Walker carcinosarcoma as potential predictors of the sensitivity of this tumor to doxorubicin treatment. This study provides an evidence that such indices of the functional activity of circulating phagocytes of the tumor-bearing rats as the quantity and the phagocytosis intensity of monocytes, as well as the intensity of ROS production by monocytes and neutrophils, may reflect the degree of sensitivity of the tumor to doxorubicin. So it was shown that the growth of the resistant tumor caused a significant increase of the number of circulating phagocytic cells and the intensity of phagocytosis by more than 100% (p variant of the tumor. The ability of blood mono-cytes and neutrophils of rats with a resistant tumor to produce ROS was also significantly different from that in intact rats and animals with the parental carcinosarcoma variant. The predictive value of these indices is especially important in the dynamic monitoring of the development of tumor drug resistance during long-term cancer chemotherapy. Considering the standard 2 - 3 week interval between the courses of cancer therapy and the short lifetime of circulating phagocytes, an assessment of the indices of their functional activity before each subsequent course can be considered as a pretreatment assessment. Meanwhile, further studies are needed to determine the spectrum of malignant neoplasms for which the degree of tumor drug resistance correlates with the functional activity of circulating phagocytes.

The Software for Constructing Trails with Local Restrictions in Graphs

The present research considers the problem of covering a graph with minimal number of trails satisfying the pre-defined local restrictions. The research is devoted to the problem of graph covering by minimal number of trails satisfying some local restrictions. Algotithm of allowed Eulerian cycle construction is considered. The authors showed that it is possible to recognize the system of transitions and solve the problem of constructing the allowable path by linear time. It’s also possible to find allowable Eulerian cycle for Eulerian graph or to proclaim that such a cycle does not exist by the time O(|v(G)|.|E(G)|). All presented algorithms have the software realization.

Changes in Environmental Parameters and Their Impact on Forest Growth in Northern Eurasia

We performed an empirical investigation of forest growth for two types of forests in northern Eurasia (larches and spruces) in order to show that the sensitivity of trees to the variable climate and geomagnetic field can be seen even under the large-scale average. The main purpose of this research was to model a forest growth rate v for each forest type on the basis of several environmental parameters influencing the tree growth in a high degree and to find the differences and similarities of the larches and spruces’ response to changing environment. We showed that v, which is related to the annual tree-ring width, could be derived from the Normalized Difference vegetation Index (NDvI) data. Averaged yearly by species for 1982-2006, it displayed a long-term decrease (most likely related to the global climate change) as well as short-term variations with periods of 2.2, 4 and 8 years. A composite function method was used for modeling. We selected several tree growth drivers (the temperature, precipitation, insolation and the geomagnetic field intensity) that were highly correlated with v, and a function was modeled that described the behavior of v. The correlation coefficients between the derived function and experimental time series were 0.8 for larches and 0.9 for spruces. Compared with spruces, larches demonstrated higher thermo-sensitivity. A loss of tree sensitivity to temperature changes is puzzling for dendroclimatology, as a similar process might have occurred during previous periods of sharp global climate changes (as observed currently). Sensitivity of trees to geomagnetic field changes is confirmed both at long- and short-timescales. Spruces are found to be more magnetosensitive than larches.

First Asian record of Panthera(Leo)fossilis(Mammalia,Carnivora,Felidae)in the Early Pleistocene of Western Siberia,Russia

A lion-like pantherine felid is described as Panthera(Leo)fossilis from the late Early Pleistocene sediments of the Kuznetsk Basin(Western Siberia,Russia).The find of *** first recorded in Asia considerably extends the current notion of the eastward expansion of the most ancient *** Siberian lion is geologically the oldest form and is dimensionally among the largest members of the group of fossil lions on the Eurasian conti*** known by mandibular remains only,it is readily distinguished from Panthera(Leo)spelaea by a heavy built mandibular corpus with rectangular profile in the cheek teeth area,a deep,well-outlined and narrow anterior section of the masseteric fossa,and a largeр4 supported by a big unreduced anterior *** Siberian lion shares these features with the European Middle Pleistocene *** and the American Late Pleistocene P.(Leo)atrox,which suggests their close *** originated from *** and was isolated in North America south of the Late Pleistocene ice *** explains why the American lion has retained more primitive features than the coeval Eurasian cave lion P.(L.)spelaea.

Granular Sorbents for Passive Environment Protection System during Severe Accidents with Total Loss of Power Supply at NPPs

Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences has developed some novel sorbents designed for the filter units of the passive filtration system for radioactive discharge from the intercontainment space during heavy accidents with a complete loss of electricity supply at nuclear power plants. These are granulated sorbents based on large-pore silica gel containing nanometric particles of Ag or Ag-Ni compounds (trademark Fizkhimin). The sorbents allow to remove various radioactive iodine species (inorganic ones and methyl iodide) from a steam-gas phase with at least 104 decontamination factor. The high sorption properties of Fizkhimin sorbent with Ag particles were confirmed during tests at a test facility of the TUv Sudwest company (Karlsruhe, Germany). This passive filtration system is installed at the 1st and 2nd units of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (India) and it is unique in the world practice.

Transparent and Biocompatible Electrodes Based on Carbon Nanotubes/Albumin Composite

We describe a new method for transparent and conductive films based on carbon nanotubes and bovine serum albumin composite development. Films are deposited from an aqueous solution of carbon nanotubes/bovine serum albumin by drop-coating and rod-coating methods. Sheet resistances of as-prepared films vary from 200 Ohm/sq with 50% transmittance to 30 KOhm/sq with 90% transmittance. The maximum sdc/sop ration found in this work is 2.27, which gives a DC conductivity of 4.55 × 104 S·m-1. Atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy studies of the films show that the process of film formation produces neither structural nor chemical changes in the nanotubes. Possibility of using these films for cell culturing is tested on human embryonic fibroblast cell line. Therefore, it is first time ever in literature, when proposed a method, allowing fabricating at the same time transparent, high-conductive and biocompatible CNT films.

We present the results of research carried out for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, on the generation of terahertz radiation under the action of "single-color" and "dual-color" high-power femtosecond laser pulses on liquefied gas–liquid nitrogen. Our experimental results supported by careful theoretical interpretation showed clearly that under femtosecond laser radiation, liquid and air emit terahertz waves in a very different way. We assumed that the mobility of ions and electrons in liquid can play an essential role, forming a quasi-static electric field by means of ambipolar diffusion mechanism.

The composite filament structure was produced in the Cu-5.7%Cr and Cu-12.4%Cr as-cast alloy ingots by using equal channel angular pressing （ECAP） at room temperature. Optical and TEM microstructure, micro-hardness, tensile strength and electrical conductivity of ECAPed samples were investigated. The rotation and spreading of Cr particles took place during ECAP, and resulted in long thin in-situ filaments. The tensile strength increased with the number of the ECAP passes. A strengthening model was recommended to predict the enhancement of the tensile strength in Cu-Cr in situ fibrous composites.
