metabolic diseases are highly prevalent worldwide and have been associated with adverse clinical outcomes,including mortality,in patients developing coronavirus disease(COVID-19).Because of the close relationship between metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity and the presence of metabolicassociated fatty liver disease(mAFLD),a high number of cases of patients affected by both mAFLD and COVID-19 would be expected,especially in highrisk *** studies have shown an increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes,viral shedding,and deep vein thrombosis,especially in patients with mAFLD-related liver *** predisposition to poor outcomes and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection in patients with mAFLD could be secondary to mechanisms common to both,including preexisting systemic chronic inflammation,endothelial dysfunction,and involvement of the renin-angiotensin *** of the increased risk of adverse outcomes,mAFLD should be screened in all patients admitted for *** computed tomography scans could be of help,assessment of liver fibrosis is also recommended,favoring noninvasive methods to limit the exposure of healthcare *** involvement in this population ranges from abnormalities in liver chemistry to hepatic steatosis in postmortem ***,preventive measures should be strongly advocated in patients already known to have mAFLD,including the use of telemedicine and vaccination in addition to general measures.

AIm To assess the cleansing efficacy and safety of a new Colon capsule endoscopy(CCE) bowel preparation *** This was a multicenter,prospective,randomized,controlled study comparing two CCE regimens. Subjects were asymptomatic and average risk for colorectal cancer. The second generation CCE system(Pill Cam? COLON 2;medtronic,Yoqneam,Israel) was utilized. Preparation regimens differed in the 1 st and 2 nd boosts with the Study regimen using oral sulfate solution(89 m L) with diatrizoate meglumine and diatrizoate sodium solution("diatrizoate solution")(boost 1 = 60 m L,boost 2 = 30 m L) and the Control regimen oral sulfate solution(89 m L) alone. The primary outcome was overall and segmental colon cleansing. Secondary outcomes included safety,polyp detection,colonic transit,CCE completion and capsule excretion ≤ 12 h. RESULTS Both regimens had similar cleansing efficacy for the whole colon(Adequate: Study = 75.9%,Control = 77.3%;P = 0.88) and individual segments. In the Study group,CCE completion was superior(Study = 90.9%,Control = 76.9%;P = 0.048) and colonic transit was more often min(Study = 21.8%,Control = 4%;P = 0.0073). more Study regimen subjects experienced adverse events(Study = 19.4%,Control = 3.4%;P = 0.0061),and this difference did not appear related to diatrizoate solution. Adverse events were primarily gastrointestinal in nature and no serious adverse events related either to the bowel preparation regimen or the capsule were observed. There was a trend toward higher polyp detection with the Study regimen,but this did not achieve statistical significance for any size category. mean transit time through the entire gastrointestinal tract,from ingestion to excretion,was shorter with the Study regimen while mean colonic transit times were similar for both study *** A CCE bowel preparation regimen using oral sulfate solution and diatrizoate solution as a boost agent is effective,safe,and achieved superior CCE completion.

The objective of this present study is to manufacture a new silicone-based adhesive which is used for gluing and bonding the second optical elements (SOE) with Concentrating Photovoltaic solar cell (CPV) in order to guarantee a thickness that can provide a good silicone adherence to obtain long term stability and keeping a good solar transmittance performance, too. This new adhesive is made up of a mixture of silicone and transparent glass balls. The experimental part consists of the choice of the best size of glass balls with the suitable proportion of the glass balls weight in the mixture. For this purpose, ten samples were manufactured for every category of glass balls and weight ratio. Glass ball sizes between 100 and 1100 μm, and weight ratios between 1 and 10% were analyzed. For each category of glass balls, four proportions were mixed with the silicone. The thicknesses and transmittance of every sample were measured with appropriate instruments. The experimental results illustrate that the mixture containing balls with sizes inferior to 106 μm, is the best mixture which assures adhesive minimum thickness value necessary for an efficient mechanical bond and preserves also a good transmittance of solar irradiance.

The sweetener compounds in Stevia, steviol glycosides (SG), are mainly found in the leaves. The SG content depends on the plant’s growth stage and is usually highest just before flowering. In temperate areas, Stevia is a polyannual crop (5 - 7 years) with a vegetative period lasting from April-may until October, during which time the crop can be harvested two or three times. This research focuses on the need for knowledge about Stevia’s response to temperate climates in Southern Europe. Two field assays were established from June to October 2013 at two sites in Navarra (Spain). The biomass and content of the two major SG, stevioside (ST) and rebaudioside A (RA), were measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in 66 cloned plants, at different developmental stages. Although the results from the two sites showed different SG leaf content dynamics during the plant growth, the optimum harvest date at both sites coincided with the bud-flowering stage at the beginning of September (around 96 days after planting), when a ST yield of 27 g·m-2 was reached. These results show Stevia’s potential as a commercial crop for stevioside production in northern Spain.

Endoscopic response to tumor necrosis factor inhibitors predicts long term benefits in Crohn's disease

BACKGROUND Identifying predictors of therapeutic response is the cornerstone of personalized *** To identify predictors of long-term mucosal healing(mH) in patients with Crohn's disease(CD) treated with tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α) *** Prospective single center study. Consecutive patients with clinically active CD requiring treatment with a TNF-α inhibitor were included. A baseline segmental CD Endoscopic Index of Severity(CDEIS) ≥ 10 in at least one segment or the presence of ulcerations were required for inclusion. Clinical, biological and endoscopic data were obtained at baseline, weeks 14 and 46. Endoscopic response(ER) was defined as a decrease ≥ 50% from baseline CDEIS and mH as partial CDEIS ≤ 5 in all *** Of 62 patients were included. At baseline, median CD Activity Index and CDEIS were 201 and 6.7, respectively with a significant reduction after one year of treatment(53 and 3.0 respectively, P mH. At week 46, the corresponding percentages were 52%and 44%. Baseline disease characteristics or biomarkers did not predict mH. A decrease from baseline CDEIS at week 14 of at least 80% was the best predictor of mH at week 46(59% sensitivity and 91% specificity; area under the curve =0.778).CONCLUSION Clinical and biomarker data are not useful predictors of response to TNF-αinhibitors in CD, whereas ER to induction therapy, defined as 80% reduction in global CDEIS, is a robust predictor of long-term mH. Achievement of this endoscopic endpoint may be considered as a therapeutic target for anti-TNF-αtherapy.

A damage constitutive model for polymer matrix composite materials is developed and implemented into a commercial finite element package. Laminated composite structures are then modeled using standard finite elements. The formulation is based on Continuous Damage mechanics (CDm) in a consistent thermodynamic framework using internal state variables to describe in-plane and inter-laminar damage as well as unrecoverable deformations (plasticity). The model uses a small number of adjustable parameters that are identified from available experimental data. Furthermore, the damage threshold and evolution parameters are identified from available experimental shear stress strain data. The finite element formulation and identified material parameters are then used to investigate the -influence of material properties, aspect ratio, stacking sequence, and geometric non linearity on the damage evolution, deflections, and failure of laminated beams under fou(?)point loading. As shown in Figure 1, neglecting inter laminar damage (d3=0) leads to misleading predictions of in plane damage evolution and poor predictions of failure load. In case of Glass/Epoxy composite, inte(?)laminar damage is significant for all [0/90]s and [90/0]s beams with low aspect ratios. As the aspect ratio increases, the inplane damage becomes dominant. In the case of Carbon/Epoxy composite, the interlaminar damage is dominant for all aspect ratios of the beam.

Photothermal radiometric spectroscopy was employed for characterizing an aluminum automotive piston with a steel insert. Amplitude and phase thermal property differences allowed the mapping of both metals. Thermal images were generated by using table stages x-y movement. The thermal wave penetrated more deeply in aluminum than in steel. Results demonstrated that this relatively unknown, non-intrusively, non-contact, and non-destructive technique can be used for characterizing a wide variety of metals and other materials.
