Curing Kinetics of Tannin and Lignin Biobased Adhesives Determined by DSC and ABES

The curing process of two biobased adhesives:pine tanninhexamine(TH)and organosolv lignin non-isocyanate polyurethane(NIPU),suitable for interior nonstructural use,were compared with commercial urea-formaldehyde(UF)*** in chemical structure before and after the curing process were observed with Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The process of adhesive curing was monitored with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and the automated bonding evaluation system(ABES).Both DSC and ABES measurements confirmed UF as the fastest and NIPU as the slowest curing adhesive *** into account the ABES results,the optimal pressing parameters for the TH adhesive would be 4 min at 175℃,for the NIPU adhesive 7 min at 200℃and for the UF 1.5 min at 100℃.Strong linear correlation was observed between mechanical and chemical curing for the UF and NIPU adhesives,whereas lower correlation was observed for the TH *** all observed adhesives,the DSC measurements were underestimating the curing process determined by ABES in the first part and overestimating it at the *** underestimation was the most evident with the TH adhesive and the less with the UF *** comparing the uncured and cured FTIR spectra of all three types of adhesives,a drastic decrease in the characteristic band of-OH groups at 3330–3400 cm^(−1)and an increase in the signal intensity at 2920 cm^(−1)of aliphatic-CH2-groups were *** the UF adhesive,the C=O stretching frequency has shifted from 1632 cm^(−1)for uncured to three different bands at 1766,1701,and 1655 cm^(−1)for cured *** sharp band for phenolic alcohols at 1236 cm^(−1)of C–O stretch and hydroxyl O–H functional group at 1009 cm^(−1)and at 684 cm^(−1)of uncured TH adhesive diminished during curing,which indicates that a crosslinking reaction occurs via-OH *** peak of the C=O group of urethane bridges at 1697 cm^(−1)for uncured NIPU shifted to lower wavenumber at 1633 cm^(−1)for cured NIPU.

Food agricultural waste from fruit products such as rinds can be one source of environmental ***,the study was conducted to investigate the total phenolic content,total flavonoid content,antioxidant property,and chemical profiling using gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC-MS)and high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry of triple quadrupole(HP LCMS-MS QTOF).Ultrasoundassisted extraction for 45 min was used as a green technique to extract bioactive compounds from watermelon(Citrullus lanatus)and wintermelon(Benincasa hispida)*** total phenolic content and total flavonoid content of ultrasound-assisted extraction were compared with maceration *** revealed by the results,maceration technique had a lower total phenolic content for both *** rind(7.07±0.86μg GAE/mg)and *** rind(13.87±0.11μg GAE/mg)compared to ultrasound-assisted *** similar trends can be observed in total flavonoid content of *** rind(4.97±0.29μg RE/g)and *** rind(8.30±0.17μg RE/g)by maceration which showed a lower quantity compared to ultrasound-assisted *** ultrasound-assisted extraction was selected for further *** total phenolic content assay found that the *** rind extract exhibited higher total phenolic content values(23.39±0.22μg GAE/mg),than *** rind extract(15.10±0.58μg GAE/mg).*** rind extract had a higher total flavonoid content(11.17±0.17μg RE/g)than *** rind extract(6.16±0.09μg RE/g).The antioxidant activity was investigated using DPPH scavenging *** antioxidant capacity of *** rind extract(20872.19±1301.47 mg/mL)stronger compared to *** rind extract(23514.47±678.70 mg/mL).Results revealed that there was a negative correlation between total phenolic content,total flavonoid content,and DPPH scavenging activity *** phytoconstituent determination in *** and *** rind extract showed both contained phenolic,malic acid,and other co

The wet-flue-gas desulfurization(FGD)process plays an important role in removing water-soluble flue-gas components such as sulphur dioxide(SO_(2))and oxidized mercury *** the reducing environment of the FGD,there is the possibility of re-emission of the already absorbed mercury(Hg)to the gas phase,which may be diminished by the utilization of specific *** this study,the effect of two different additives on Hg re-emission from the aqueous phase and Hg partitioning in gypsum and filtrate of a lab-scale wet-limestone FGD is ***,the behaviour of additives in the presence of different halides is *** studied additives are TMT 15■as a sulphidic precipitating agent,which forms non-soluble mercury compounds,and activated lignite(AL)as a carbon-based sorbent,which adsorbs Hg compounds from the aqueous *** 15■has no significant effect on SO_(2) absorption;on the other hand,addition of AL improves the SO_(2)-removal efficiency by up to 30%.Using both additives,Hg re-emission is suppressed in all the experimented cases except for AL in the absence of halides,in which Hg re-emission shows no ***,the need to form nucleophilic oxidized mercury compounds in the slurry for the adsorption of oxidized mercury on AL can be *** of both additives improves Hg retention in the slurry to different *** is shown that,for the additive-free slurries,the Hg-adsorption capacity of the solid fraction of the slurry is the limiting ***,the utilization of both additives results in a significant increase in the Hg concentration of solid *** correlation between redox potential and partitioning of Hg in the slurry is presented by comparing the change in the redox potential of slurries when additives are used.

In recent years,the contamination of water by arsenic reached alarming levels in many countries of the world,attracting the interest of many researchers engaged in testing methodologies able to remove this harmful *** important aspect that must be taken into consideration is the possibility to find arsenic in different chemical forms which could require different approaches for its *** this aim,a speciation analysis appears to be crucial for better understanding the behavior of arsenic species in aqueous solutions,especially in presence of compounds with marked chelating *** can be identified as good sequestering agents and,at this purpose,this manuscript intends to investigate the interaction of As(Ⅲ)with three phosphonic acids derived from nitrilotriacetic acid(NTA)by replacements of one(N-(Phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid,NTAP),two(N,N-Bis-(phosphonomethyl)glycine,NTA2P)and three(Nitrilotri(methylphosphonic acid),NTA3P)carboxylic groups with the same number of phosphonate *** in-depth potentiometric and calorimetric investigation allowed to determine speciation models featured by simple ML,MLH i and ML(OH)species.A complete thermodynamic characterization of the systems is reported together with the definition of coordination mode by mass spectrometry *** the light of the speciation models,the possibility of using these ligands in arsenic removal techniques was assessed by determining the pL 0.5(the concentration of ligand able to remove the 50%of metal ion present in trace).All ligands show a good sequestering ability,in particular under the conditions of fresh water,following the trend NTA3P>NTA2P>NTAP.

The most abundant and typical reducing agent for oxidized mercury in the slurry of wet flue-gas desulphurization(FGD)is the absorbed sulphur dioxide(SO_(2)),which is present as different species of bisulphite or sulphite,depending on the pH of the *** this study,two different measurement principles for continuous sulphite measurement in the slurry of lab-scale FGD were investigated to check their feasibility to be implemented in a wet *** first method is based on light absorbance at the characteristic wavelength of sulphite measurement using a spectrophotometer and,in the second method,sulphite is measured as sulphur dioxide using a gas *** addition,the correlation of sulphite concentration and mercury(Hg)in the slurry can be shown by measuring sulphite *** was concluded that using a spectrophotometer leads to distorted *** contrast,measuring sulphite as SO2 in the gas phase proved to be more *** implementation of the measurement technique in the lab-scale FGD showed promising results for sulphite ***,the correlation of Hg and sulphite concentration could be shown at different synthetic slurries containing different *** a slurry without halides demonstrated the ambivalent influence of sulphite in reactions involving Hg,in which sulphite acts as a ligand for Hg complexes as well as a reducing agent,depending on the existing ***,in the presence of halides,the role of sulphite was less significant.

Q-space trajectory imaging(QTI)allows non-invasive estimation of microstructural features of heterogeneous porous media via diffusion magnetic resonance imaging performed with generalised gradient waveforms.A recently proposed constrained estimation framework,called QTI+,improved QTI's resilience to noise and data sparsity,thus increasing the reliability of the method by enforcing relevant positivity *** this work we consider expanding the set of constraints to be applied during the fitting of the QTI *** show that the additional conditions,which introduce an upper bound on the diffusivity values,further improve the retrieved parameters on a publicly available human brain dataset as well as on data acquired from healthy volunteers using a scanner-ready protocol.
