Mucosal patterns change after Helicobacter pylori eradication:Evaluation using blue laser imaging in patients with atrophic gastritis

BACKGROUND Mucosal patterns(MPs)observed on blue laser imaging in patients with atrophic gastritis can be classified as spotty,cracked,and ***,we hypothesized that the spotty pattern may change to the cracked pattern after Helicobacter pylori(***)*** To further substantiate and comprehensively investigate MP changes after *** eradication in a larger number of *** We included 768 patients who were diagnosed with atrophic gastritis with evaluable MP using upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at the Nishikawa Gastrointestinal Clinic,*** them,325 patients were ***-positive,and of them,101 patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy before and after *** eradication were evaluated for post-eradication MP *** patients’MPs were interpreted by three experienced endoscopists who were blinded to their clinical *** Among 76 patients with the spotty pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 67 patients[88.2%,95%confidence interval(CI):79.0%-93.6%),appeared or increased in 8 patients(10.5%,95%CI:5.4%-19.4%),and showed no change in 1 patient(1.3%,95%CI:0.2%-7.1%).In 90 patients with the cracked pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 7 patients(7.8%,95%CI:3.8%-15.2%),appeared or increased in 79 patients(87.8%,95%CI:79.4%-93.0%),and showed no change in 4 patients(4.4%,95%CI:1.7%-10.9%).In 70 patients with the mottled pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 28 patients(40.0%,95%CI:29.3%-51.7%),appeared or increased in 35 patients(50.0%,95%CI:38.6%-61.4%),and showed no change in 7 patients(10.0%,95%CI:4.9%-19.2%).CONCLUSION After *** eradication,MPs changed from spotty to cracked in most patients,which may help endoscopists easily and precisely evaluate ***-related gastritis status.

The ultracontractivity is well studied and several equivalent conditions are known. In this paper, we introduce the dual notion of the ultracontractivity, which we call the dual ultracontractivity. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the dual ultracontractivity. As an application, we discuss one-dimensional diffusion processes. We can write the conditions for the dual ultracontractivity in terms of speed measures.

Using sorbents to control heavy metals and particulate matter emission during solid fuel combustion

Some of the heavy metals in coal and wastes vaporize during combustion, concentrate in fine particulates, and emit with the flue gas into the atmosphere, to produce adverse effect on environment and health. This study first investigates the fate of the heavy metal species, especially Pb, Cd and Cr, known as semi-volatile, in various flue gases, especially in the presence of HCI and SO2, by chemical equilibrium calculation, in which, Si and Ca were proposed as base sorbent materials to capture Pb, Cd and Cr. Then Si- and Ca-based compounds as well as waste materials used as sorbents were optimized to capture the heavy metals. Finally, the optimal sorbent was tested in actual burning of dried sewage sludge as solid fuel, to evaluate the effectiveness of the sorbent. Calculated results show that Cl increases the volatility of most heavy metals, while SO2 enhances formation of condensed phases. Among the sorbents tested, kaolin appears most efficient to capture Pb and Cd. For sludge combustion with kaolin addition, both Pb and Cd were shifted from sub-micron to macro-sized particles, and accompanied by considerable decrease of 0.1 μm particles.

Some Issues on the Strength of the Lithosphere

The strength of the oceanic and continental lithosphere has important controls on some of the major geological processes on earth including the operation of plate tectonics and the long-term stability of the continental roots. However, explaining these major geological features from the experi- mental and theoretical studies on the strength of rocks is challenging and some of the existing models for the strength of the lithosphere do not explain these main geological observations. A brief review is provided to summarize recent progress in these areas with the emphasis on experimental studies.

Environmentally benign one-pot protocol is used in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles （AgNPs） in powder form, involving the reduction of silver nitrate in the presence of fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol （PVA） as stabilizer by hydrogen （H2） as reducing agent in aqueous medium. Fully hydrolyzed biodegradable PVA has extremely low cytotoxicity, making it a favorable stabilizer from green perspective. In the present methodology, essentially naked silver nanoparticles are obtained in good yield. The prepared sil- ver nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, XRD, EDAX, UV-Vis spectroscopy and DLS histogram, and studied for its activity as a recyclable catalyst for synthesis of different enaminones.

Leaf Positioning of Arabidopsis in Response to Blue Light

Appropriate leaf positioning is essential for optimizing photosynthesis and plant growth. However, it has not been elucidated how green leaves reach and maintain their position for capturing light. We show here the regulation of leaf positioning under blue light stimuli. When 1-week-old Arabidopsis seedlings grown under white light were transferred to red light （25 i, mol m^-2 s^-1） for 5 d, new petioles that appeared were almost horizontal and their leaves were curled and slanted downward. However, when a weak blue light from above （0.1 i, mol m^-2 s^-1） was superimposed on red light, the new petioles grew obliquely upward and the leaves were flat and horizontal. The leaf positioning required both phototropinl （photl） and nonphototropic hypocotyl 3 （NPH3）, and resulted in enhanced plant growth. In an nph3 mutant, neither optimal leaf positioning nor leaf flattening by blue light was found, and blue light-induced growth enhancement was drastically reduced. When blue light was increased from 0.1 to 5 i, mol m^-2 s^-1, normal leaf positioning and leaf flattening were induced in both photl and nph3 mutants, suggesting that phot2 signaling became functional and that the signaling was independent of photl and NPH3 in these responses. When plants were irradiated with blue light （0.1 i, mol m^-2 s^- 1） from the side and red light from above, the new leaves became oriented toward the source of blue light. When we transferred these plants to both blue light and red light from above, the leaf surface changed its orientation to the new blue light source within a few hours, whereas the petioles initially were unchanged but then gradually rotated, suggesting the plasticity of leaf positioning in response to blue light. We showed the tissue expression of NPH3 and its plasma membrane localization via the coiled-coil domain and the C-terminal region. A hydrogen bond-assisted α-selective glycosylation reaction by using 4,6-dibenzyloxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl(DBT) β-glycosyl donors was developed for the efficient construction of 1,2-cis-α-glycosidic bond in natural products. This method was applied successfully to the direct synthesis of complex oligosaccharidederived glycolipids with simple protecting chemistry. Mechanistic studies using the NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculation provide a proof of concept for hydrogen bond-assisted glycosylation reaction towardsα-specific construction of O-glycosidic linkage.

A Case Report of Concurrent Acne-Related Occurrence Complications: Telangiectasia, Post-Inflammatory Erythema, Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation, and Atrophic and Hypertrophic Scars

Prior to his initial diagnosis, a 21-year-old male had been experiencing facial acne for two years and had been treated by a doctor in private practice. The patient visited our department because the clinical manifestations of mandibular acne did not improve. At the time of initial examination, telangiectasia (TE), post-inflammatory erythema (PIE), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), atrophic scars (ASs), and a hypertrophic scar (HS) with induration were observed on the right neck. We diagnosed this as an acne vulgaris complication. HS lesions were topically treated by injecting triamcinolone acetonide, and the patient was prescribed 8.1 g/day of oral Saireito (Japanese herb). Adapalene benzoyl peroxide gel and topical tacrolimus hydrate ointment were used to treat PIE and TE. Both HSs and PIE improved;however, TE and AS did not improve. Currently, the patient is under observation. We consider this to be a very rare concurrent occurrence of diverse complications of acne vulgaris, and present the following case study.
