Background: The aim of the current study was to assess fifteen-year life expectancy, cardiovascular events, fate of the limb, and risk factors with or without polyvascular disease in patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study in 1019 PAD patients. The endpoints were Cardiovascular or Cerebrovascular Death (CCVD), All-Cause Death (ACD), Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE), and Cardiovascular and/or Limb Events (CVLE). Results: The patients who died were 539 (52.9%) during follow-up periods. The rate of CCVD was 50.5% (n = 272). An average human ejaculate contains over 100 million sperm, but only a few succeed in accomplishing the journey to an egg by migration through the female reproductive tract. Among these few sperm, only one participates in fertilization. There might be an ingenious molecular mechanism to ensure that the very best sperm fertilize an egg. However, recent gene disruption experiments in mice have revealed that many factors previously described as important for fertilization are largely dispensable. One could argue that the fertilization mechanism is made robust against gene disruptions. However, this is not likely, as there are already six different gene-disrupted mouse lines （Calmegin, Adam Ia, Adam2, Adam3, Ace and Pgapl）, all of which result in male sterility. The sperm from these animals are known to have defective zona-binding ability and at the same time lose oviduct-migrating ability. Concerning spermzona binding, the widely accepted involvement of sugar moiety on zona pellucida 3 （ZP3） is indicated to be dispensable by gene disruption experiments. Thus, the landscape of the mechanism of fertilization is revolving considerably. In the sperm-egg fusion process, CD9 on egg and IZUMO1 on sperm have emerged as essential factors. This review focuses on the mechanism of fertilization elucidated by gene-manipulated animals.

Electron transmission and quantum current distribution of C_(70) molecule

The characteristics of electron transmission through C70 molecule bridge in which two atomic chain leads are connected to long-axis carbon atoms are investigated theoretically by using tight-binding approach based on the Green's function with only one π orbital electron per carbon atom. Electron transmission through C70 molecule from the input to the output terminal is obtained. From the spectrum, the switching feature of the electron transmission through C70 is found, and the oscil-lation property based on the quantized level is explained. The quantum current distributions inside C70 molecule bridge are calculated and simulated by the quan-tum current density theory based on Fisher-Lee formula at the energy point E = -0.2 eV, where the transmission spectrum shows a peak. The maximum and the mini-mum bond quantum currents are presented, and the reason why the currents are distributed nonuniformly is explained by the phase difference of the atomic orbits. The result shows that the currents at each atomic site agree with Kirchhoff quan-tum current conservation law.

BACKGROUND Bronchogenic cysts are congenital lesions requiring radical resection because of malignant ***,a method for the optimal resection of these cysts has not been completely *** SUMMARY Herein,we presented three patients with bronchogenic cysts that were located adjacent to the gastric wall and resected *** cysts were detected incidentally with no symptoms and the preoperative diagnosis was challenging to obtain via radiological *** on laparoscopic findings,the cyst was attached firmly to the gastric wall and the boundary between the gastric and cyst walls was difficult to ***,resection of cysts alone caused cystic wall injury in Patient ***,the cyst was resected completely along with a part of the gastric wall in Patient *** examination revealed the final diagnosis of bronchogenic cyst and revealed that the cyst wall shared the muscular layer with the gastric wall in Patients 1 and *** Patient 3,the cyst was located adjacent to the gastric wall but histopathologically originated from diaphragm rather than *** the patients were free from *** The findings of this study state that a safe and complete resection of bronchogenic cysts required the adherent gastric muscular layer or full-thickness dissection,if bronchogenic cysts are suspected via pre-and/or intraoperative findings.

Iron catalyst nanoparticles were prepared on silicon wafers by spin-coating colloidal solutions containing iron nitrate, polyethylene glycol （PEG） and absolute ethanol. The effects of various spin-coating conditions were investigated. The findings showed that the size of the iron particles was governed by the composition of the colloidal solution used and that a high angular speed was responsible for the formation of a thin colloidal *** effect of angular acceleration on the size and distribution of the iron particles were found to be insignificant. It was observed that a longer spin-coating duration provoked the agglomeration of iron particles, leading to the formation of large particles. We also showed that single-walled carbon nanotubes could be grown from the smallest iron catalyst nanoparticles after the chemical vapor deposition of methane.

A new type of calcium-based regenerable carbon dioxide （CO_2） sorbent, CaO-NiO, was synthesized via the sol-gel method. The as synthesized CO_2 sorbent was in the form of nanoparticles. The CO_2 sorption temperature and capacity of the sorbent were examined using thermogravi- metric analysis （TGA）. The CaO-NiO sorbent is able to capture CO_2 at a lower sorption temperature （465 ℃） than pure calcium oxide （CaO）（600 ℃）. The role of NiO in the CaO-NiO sorbent in lowering the CO_2 sorption temperature was also investigated. The sorbent was char- acterized by X-ray diffractometer （XRD）, N_2 adsorption-desorption analysis, high resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. CaO and NiO were found to coexist in the sorbent. Neither solid solution nor mixed metal oxide was formed. NiO did not react with CO_2 in the sorption process; but it worked like a catalyst to promote the CaO carbonation reaction. It is suggested that this new CaO-NiO sorbent may have a promising application as an effective CO_2 sorbent with lower energy consumption.

We are developing an optical layer-2s witch network that uses both wavelength-division multiplexing and time-division multiplexing technologies for efficient traffic aggregation in metro *** efficient traffic aggregation,path bandwidth control is key because it strongly affects bandwidth *** this paper,we propose a dynamic time-slot allocation method that uses periodic information of difference values of traffic *** method can derive near-optimal allocation with lower computational cost,which enlarges the maximum available network size compared with conventional time-slot allocation *** results show that the proposed method enables dynamic path control in 1K-node-scale optical layer-2s witch network,which leads to cost-effective metro networks.

Performing mobile k nearest neighbor （MkNN） queries whilst also being mobile is a challenging problem. All the mobile objects issuing queries and/or being queried are mobile. The performance of this kind of query relies heav- ily on the maintenance of the current locations of the objects. The index used for mobile objects must support efficient up- date operations and efficient query handling. This study aims to improve the performance of the MkNN queries while re- ducing update costs. Our approach is based on an observa- tion that the frequency of one region changing between being occupied or not by mobile objects is much lower than the frequency of the position changes reported by the mobile ob- jects. We first propose an virtual grid quadtree with Voronoi diagram （VGQ-Vor）, which is a two-layer index structure that indexes regions occupied by mobile objects in a quadtree and builds a Voronoi diagram of the regions. Then we propose a moving k nearest neighbor （kNN） query algorithm on the VGQ-Vor and prove the correctness of the algorithm. The ex- perimental results show that the VGQ-Vor outperforms the existing techniques （Bx-tree, Bdual-tree） by one to three or- ders of magnitude in most cases.

Smart Processing in Materials Tectonics:Fabrication of Photonic Crystals for Terahertz Wave Control by Using Micro-Stereolithography

Photonic crystals with three-dimensional dielectric structures were fabricated to control terahertz waves effectively by using micro-stereolithography of a CAD/CAM process. The photonic crystals with a diamond structure composed of acrylic lattice with nanosized alumina particles were fabricated. Dense alumina structures were obtained by successive dewaxing and sintering in an air atmosphere. The electromagnetic wave properties of these samples were measured by using a terahertz spectroscopy device. The micro periodic structures exhibited perfect band gaps in the terahertz range. To control terahertz waves, micrometer sized electromagnetic devices for cavities, filters, and antennas will be necessary.
