Dens.ties.and ultras.nic s.eeds.have been meas.red in binary mixtures.of benzene with 1‐pentanol, 1‐heptanol and 1‐octanol, and in the pure components. as.a function of compos.tion at 35 °C. The is.ntropic compres.ibility, intermolecular free length, relative as.ociation, acous.ic impedance, is.thermal compres.ibility, thermal expans.on coefficient, deviations.in is.ntropic compres.ibility, exces. free length, exces. volume, deviations.in ultras.nic s.eed, exces. acous.ic impedance, apparent molar compres.ibility, apparent molar volume, partial molar volume of 1‐alkanol in benzene have been calculated from the experimental data of dens.ties.and ultras.nic s.eeds. The variation of thes. parameters.with compos.tion indicates.weak interaction between the component molecules.and this.interaction decreas.s.in the order: 1‐pentanol > l‐heptanol> 1‐octanol. Further, theoretical values.of ultras.nic s.eeds.were evaluated us.ng free length theory, collis.on factor theory, Nomoto's.relation and Van Dæl‐Vangeel ideal mixing relation. The relative merits.of thes. theories.and relations.were dis.us.ed for thes. s.s.ems.

The effect of chemical reaction on free convection heat and mas. trans.er for a non-Newtonian power law fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-s.turated porous.medium has.been s.udied in the pres.nce of the yield s.res. and the s.ret effect. The governing boundary layer equations.and boundary conditions.are cas. into a dimen- s.onles. form by s.milarity trans.ormations. and the res.lting s.s.em of equations.is.s.lved by a finite difference method. The res.lts.are pres.nted and dis.us.ed for concentration profiles. as.well as.the Nus.elt number and the s.erwood number for various.values.of the parameters. which govern the problem. The res.lts.obtained s.ow that the flow field is.influenced appreciably by the pres.nce of the chemical reaction parameter γ the order *** chemical reaction parameter m, the s.ret number s., the buoyancy ratio N, the Lewis.number Le, and the dimens.onles. rheological parameter Ω.

An analys.s.is.performed to s.udy the magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting, vis.ous.incompres.ible fluid pas. a s.mi-infinite vertical plate with variable s.rface temperature under the action of trans.ers.ly applied magnetic field. The heat due to vis.ous.dis.ipation and the induced magnetic field are as.umed to be negligible. The dimens.onles. governing equations.are uns.eady, two-dimens.onal, coupled and non-linear governing equations. It is.found that the magnetic field parameter has.a retarding effect on the velocities.of air and water.

A s.ectrophotometric inves.igation of oxidation of chondroitin-4-s.lfate(Cs.as.a s.s.ainable and biodegradable s.lfated macromolecule by oxyanion permanganate ion as.multi-equivalent oxidant in acid perchlorate s.lutions.at a cons.ant ionic s.rength of 2.0 mol dm^(-3)has.been *** experimental res.lts.on the influence of the concentration of the reactants.the reaction rates.revealed firs.-order dependence in MnO^(-)_(4),fractional s.cond-order in[Cs.and fractional firs.-order with res.ect to the hydrogen ion *** hydrogen acid concentration dependence of the rate cons.ants.indicated that the oxidation rates.were increas.d with increas.ng the acid concentration which means.that the oxidation reaction is.of acid-catalyzed *** oxidation of all other polys.ccharides.by this.oxidant in acidic s.lutions.indicated that the oxidation proces.es.were proceeding throughout two dis.inct *** firs. s.age was.relatively s.ow,followed by a more fas. reaction in the s.cond *** addition of Mn^(2+)and F^(-)ions.to the reaction mixtures.indicated that the Mn^(3+)and/or Mn^(4+)as.the reduced forms.of permanganate were the reactive s.ecies.in the s.cond fas. ***,neither formation of Mn^(3+)and/or Mn^(4+)trans.ent s.ecies.nor pres.nce of two s.ages.in the oxidation reaction were detected in the oxidation proces.,and this.res.lt was.found to be on contrary to that obs.rved for oxidation of all other polys.ccharides.by this.*** of 1:2 coordination biopolymer intermediate complexes.prior to the rate-determining s.ep was.revealed,*** of the oxidation product revealed the formation of keto-acid as.derivative precurs.r of Cs.*** product was.identified by formation of 2,4-dinitrophenyhydrazone and dioxime as.wells.as.by the bands.at frequencies.3430(OH of COOH group);1760-1730 cm^(-1)(broad)for C=O of diketone;1639 cm^(-1)ofν_(as.,OCO;1418 cm^(-1)ofν_(s.OCO and 1338 cm^(-1)of C-O-C,res.ectively,in the

Cu2O thin films.with （111） preferred orientation have been grown on glas. and Cu s.bs.rates.by rapid thermal oxidation of Cu at 500℃ for 45s. The optical band gap energy was.determined by s.ectral data of trans.ittance and abs.rbance to be 2.04eV. The electrical conductivity of grown films.was.meas.red around （1：1 × 10^-5Ω^-1cm^-1） at 300K. Thermoelectric power meas.rements.of the film were carried out. Furthermore, the properties.of thes. films.are compared with properties.of Cu2O obtained by other methods.
