Type 1 diabetes is caused by insulin deficiency due to the loss of beta cells in the islets of *** severe cases,islet transplantation into the portal vein is ***,due to the loss of transplanted islets and the failure of islet function,the 5-year insulin independence rate of these patients isin this study,we developed a long-term,insulin-secreting,3 Dbioprinted construct implanted subcutaneously with the aim of preventing islet *** bioprinted construct was fabricated by the multi-layer bioprinting of beta-cell(mouse insulinoma-6:MiN-6)-encapsulated alginate bioink and poly(caprolactone)biodegradable polymer.A glucose response assay revealed that the bioprinted constructs proliferated and released insulin normally during the 4-week in vitro *** MiN-6 generated clusters with a diameter of 100-200μm,similar to the original pancreatic islets in the *** an in vivo study using type 1 diabetes mice,animals implanted with bioprinted constructs showed three times higher insulin secretion and controlled glucose levels at 8 weeks after *** the implanted,bioprinted constructs had a positive effect on insulin secretion in the experimental animals,the survival rate of the implanted group(75%)was three times higher than that of the non-implanted group(25%).The results suggest that the proposed,3 D-bioprinted,subcutaneous construct can be a better alternative to portal vein islet transplantation.

in this study, we propose a novel combination of tunneling field-effect transistors （TFETs） with asymmetrically doped p^＋-i-n^＋ silicon nanowire （SiNw） channels on a bendable substrate. The combination of two n-channel SiNw-TFETs （NwTFETs） in parallel and two p-channel NwTFETs in series operates as a two-input NOR logic gate. The component NwTFETs with the n- and p-channels exhibit subthreshold swings （SSs） of 69 and 53 mV·dec^-1, respectively, and the on/off current ratios are -106. The NOR logic operation is sustainable and reproducible for up to 1,000 bending cycles with a narrow transition width of -0.26 V. The mechanical bendability of the bendable NwTFETs shows that they are stable and have good fatigue properties. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on the electrical and mechanical characteristics of a bendable NOR logic gate composed of NwTFETs.

it is known that fiber metal laminates （FML） as one of hybrid materials with thin metal sheets and fiber/epoxy layers have the characteristics of the excellent damage tolerance, fatigue and impact properties with a relatively low density. Therefore, the mechanical components using FML can contribute the enhanced safety level of the sound construction toward the whole body. in this study, the impact performance of carbon reinforced aluminum laminates （CARAL） is investigated by experiments and numerical simulations. Drop weight tests are carried out with the weight of 4.7 kg at the speed of 1 and 2 m/s, respectively. Dynamic non-linear transient analyses are also accomplished using a finite element analysis software, ABAQUS. The experiment results and numerical results are compared with impact load-time histories. Also, energy-time histories are applied to investigate the impact performance of CARAL.

BACKGROUND Few studies have compared the efficacy and safety profile of a tailored eradication(TR)strategy based on the presence of a 23S ribosomal RNA point mutation with those of empirical bismuth-based quadruple therapy(EBQT)for first-line eradication of Helicobacter pylori(***)in Korean *** To compare the efficacy and safety of a TR strategy and those of EBQT regimen as first-line eradication therapy for *** This is an open-label,comparative study in which we prospectively enrolled patients over 18 years of age with *** infection and retrospectively reviewed their ***-positive patients diagnosed by rapid urease test,Giemsa staining,or dual priming oligonucleotide polymerase chain reaction(DPO-PCR)were enrolled from May 2016 to September 2018 at Gil Medical *** with *** infection received either a TR regimen or the EBQT *** the tailored therapy group that underwent DPO-PCR testing,patients with A2142G and/or A2143G point mutations were treated with a bismuth-containing quadruple *** eradication rate,patient-reported side effect rate,and *** eradication success rate were evaluated and compared between the *** A total of 150 patients were assigned to the TR(n=50)or EBQT group(n=100).The first-line eradication rate of *** did not differ between the groups(96.0%vs 95.7%,P=0.9).The rate of eradication-related side effects for TR was 12.0%,which differed significantly from that of EBQT(43.0%)for first-line treatment(PiON DPO-PCR-based TR for *** eradication may be equally efficacious,with less treatment-related complications,compared to EBQT in Korea,where clarithromycin resistance is high.

A new method of treating maximum wave height as a random variable in reliability analysis of breakwater caissons isproposed. The maximum wave height is expressed as the significant wave height multiplied by the so-called wave height *** proposed wave height ratio is a type of transfer function from the significant wave height to the maximum wave *** the condition of a breaking wave, the ratio is intrinsically nonlinear. Therefore, the probability density function for thevariable cannot be easily defined. in this study, however, it can be derived from the relationship between the maximum andsignificant waves in a nonbreaking environment. Some examples are shown to validate the derived probability density functionfor the wave ratio parameter. By introducing the wave height ratio into reliability analysis of caisson breakwater, the maximumwave height can be used as an independent and primary random variable, which means that the risk of caisson failure during itslifetime can be evaluated realistically.

we present a case of a 56-year-old man with 3 synchronous gastric tumors. The patient presented with melena, and 3 gastric abnormalities were detected on gastroduodenoscopic examination, including a small ulcerative lesion in the gastric antrum, a submucosal mass in the gastric body, and severe erosion in the fundus. Histological examination of biopsy samples yielded respective diagnoses of gastric adenocarcinoma, gastritis, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma. The patient first received medication to eradicate any underlying Helicobacter pylori infection, which might have been a cause of the MALT lymphoma. Four weeks later, after examination of repeat biopsy samples revealed that the MALT lymphoma had resolved, the patient underwent subtotal gastrectomy. Further histological examination of resected tissue confirmed the antrum lesion as adenocarcinoma and the body lesion as schwannoma. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of synchronous triple primary gastric adenocarcinoma, MALT lymphoma, and schwannoma.

Listeria monocytogene is a well-recognized cause of bacteremia in immunocompromised individuals, including solid organ transplant recipients, but has been rarely reported following orthotopic liver transplantation. we describe a case of listeria meningitis that occurred within a week after liver transplantation. The patient developed a severe headache that mimicked tacrolimus encephalopathy, and was subsequently diagnosed with listeria meningitis by cerebrospinal fluid culture. The infection was successfully treated with three-week course of intravenous arnpicillin. Recurrent hepatitis C followed and was successfully treated with interferon alfa and ribavirin. Fourteen cases of listeriosis after orthotopic liver transplantation have been reported in the English literature. Most reported cases were successfully treated with intravenous ampicillin. There were four cases of listeria meningitis, and the mortality of them was 50%. Early detection and treatment of listeria meningitis are the key to obtaining a better prognosis.

Compared to other underwater vehicles, supercavitating vehicles can attain a high speed because they eliminate drag by creating a large cavity, thus establishing the so-called ＂supercavitating condition.＂ Such a cavity is difficult to develop under normal conditions, hence, ventilation is used to attain the supercavitating condition in the initial phase of flight. in this paper, we focus on the hydrodynamic characteristics of a ventilated supercavitating vehicle. First, dynamic modeling of the supercavitating vehicle is performed to calculate the hydrodynamic force/moment acting on the vehicle for a given size of cavity. we then define the relationship between the ventilation rate and the cavitation number based on an air entrainment model of the ventilated cavity. Numerical simulations were performed to analyze the physical feasibility and characteristics of the modeling. The results show that the cavity length/radius increases with the ventilation rate, proving that ventilation can be used to attain the supercavitating condition.
