Antimicrobial activity of.organic and aqueous extracts f.om f.uits, leaves and roots of.Tribulus terrestris L., an iraqi medicinal plant used as urinary anti-inf.ctive in f.lk medicine, was examined against i l species of.pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms： Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans using microdilution method in 96 multiwell microtiter plates. all the extracts f.om the dif.erent parts of.the plant showed antimicrobial activity against most tested microorganisms. The most active extract against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria was ethanol extract f.om the f.uits with a minimal inhibitory concentration （MiC） value of.0.15 mg/ml against B. subtilis, B. cereus, P. vulgaris and C. diphtheriae. in addition, the same extract f.om the same plant part demonstrated the strongest antif.ngal activity against C. albicans with an MiC value of.0.15 mg/ml.

Replacing the entire soil-structure system with a f.xed base oscillator to consider the ef.ect of.soil-structure interaction （SSi） is a common analysis method in seismic design. This technique has been included in design procedures such as NEHRP, ASCE, etc. by def.ning an equivalent f.ndamental period and damping ratio that can modif. the response of.the structure. However, recent studies indicate that the ef.ects of.SSi should be reconsidered when a structure undergoes a nonlinear displacement demand. in recent documents on Nonlinear Static Procedures （NSPs）, f.MA-440 （2005）, a modif.ed damping ratio of.the replacement oscillator was proposed by introducing the ductility of.the soil-structure system obtained f.om pushover analysis. in this paper, the damping def.ned in f.MA-440 to include the soil-structure interaction ef.ect is evaluated, and the accuracy of.the Coef.icient Method given in f.MA-440 and the Equivalent Linearization Method is studied. although the improvements f.r Nonlinear Static Procedures （NSPs） in f.MA-440 are achieved f.r a f.xed base SDOf.structure, the soil ef.ects are not perf.ctly obtained. f.rthermore, the damping def.nition of.a soil-structure system is extended to structures to consider bilinear behavior.

Dunwoody manif.lds are an interesting class of.closed connected orientable 3-manif.lds, which are def.ned by means of.Heegaard diagrams having a rotational symmetry. They are proved to be cyclic coverings of.lens spaces （possibly S3） branched over （1, 1）-knots. Here we study the Dunwoody manif.lds which are cyclic coverings of.the 3-sphere branched over two specif.ed f.milies of.Montesinos knots. Then we determine the Dunwoody parameters f.r such knots and the isometry groups f.r the considered manif.lds in the hyperbolic case. A list of.volumes f.r some hyperbolic Dunwoody manif.lds completes the paper.

in this work, experimental and numerical investigations are undertaken f.r conf.ned buoyant turbulent jet with varying inlet temperatures. Results of.the experimental work and numerical simulations f.r the problem under consideration are presented. f.ur cases of.dif.erent variable inlet temperatures and dif.erent f.ow rates are considered. The realizable k-ε turbulence model is used to model the turbulent f.ow. Comparisons show good agreements between simulated and measured results. The average devia- tion of.the simulated temperature by realizable k-ε turbulent model and the measured temperature is within 2%. The results indicate that temperatures along the vertical axis vary, generally, in nonlinear f.shion as opposed to the approximately linear varia- tion that was observed f.r the constant inlet temperature that was done in a previous work. f.rthermore, thermal stratif.cation exits, particularly closer to the entrance region. f.rther away f.om the entrance region the variation in temperatures becomes relatively smaller. The stratif.cation is observed since the start of.the experiment and continues during the whole course. Numerical experime- nts f.r constant, monotone increasing and monotone decreasing of.inlet temperature are done to show its ef.ect on the buoyancy f.rce in terms of.Richardson number.

Thermal spray, such as direct current （d.c.） plasma spray or radio f.equency induced plasma spray, was used to deposit tungsten coatings on the copper electrodes of.a tokamak device. The tungsten coating on the outer surf.ce of.one copper electrode was f.rmed directly through d.c. plasma spraying of.f.ne tungsten powder. The tungsten coating/lining on the inner surf.ce of.another copper electrode could be f.rmed indirectly through induced plasma spraying of.coarse tungsten powder. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） was used to examine the cross section and the interf.ce of.the tungsten coating. Energy Dispersive Analysis of.X-ray （EDAX） was used to analyze the metallic elements attached to a separated interf.ce. The inf.uence of.the particle size of.the tungsten powder on the density, cracking behavior and adhesion of.the coating is discussed. it is f.und that the coarse tungsten powder with the particle size of.45-75μm can be melted and the coating can be f.rmed only by using induced plasma. The coating deposited f.om the coarse powder has much higher cohesive strength, adhesive strength and crack resistance than the coating made f.om the f.ne powder with a particle size of.5μm.

in this research, the ef.ects of.target sputtering power on the structure and optical properties of.radio f.equency （Rf. sputtered Ti6A14V f.lms were investigated. Dif.erent sputtering Rf.powers were used to produce dif.erent thicknesses of.Ti6A14V thin f.lms, f.om the X-ray dif.raction, it was f.und that the Ti6A14V f.lms had polycrystalline cubic and hexagonal structures and increased f.lms crystallinity and crystalline size with increasing the sputtering power. Atomic f.rces microscopy （Af.） gave us a nanometric f.lm character, f.lms homogeneity, and surf.ces roughness. A higher degree of.roughness and average grain size with increasing Rf.power was exhibited. Band gap and ref.active index of.Ti6A14V thin f.lms varied with sputtering Rf.powers.

AiM: To assess the ef.icacy and saf.ty of.combinedpegylated interf.ron and ribavirin therapy in hepatitis C virus (HCV) inf.ction in renal transplant recipients. METHODS: This is a retrospective chart review of.post renal transplant patients who were positive f.r anti-HCV and HCV-RNA, and who have received treatment with combination of.pegylated interf.ron and ribavirin between October 2003 and December 2008. Only patients with stable graf. f.nction and absence of.evidence of.cirrhosis and who received the therapy f.r continuous 48 wk were included. Nineteen patients (13 male and 6 f.male) were identif.ed and included. The patient's complete blood count, liver and kidney prof.ile, and cal- culated glomerular f.iltration rate (Gf.) were monitored every 6-8 wk while on treatment. HCV-RNA was tested at 12 wk f.r early virological response, at 48 wk f.r end of.treatment response (ETR), and then retested at 24, and 48 wk af.er completion of.therapy f.r sustained virological response (SVR). Liver biopsies were obtained bef.re treatment f.om all patients and graf. kidney biopsies were perf.rmed as required. RESULTS: Of.the entire cohort, 9 patients (47.4%) showed an ETR and 8 had SVR (42.1%). Of.the 8 patients with abnormal alanine aminotransf.rase (alT) levels at baseline, 78.9% had their alT normalized (including the virological non responders). alT was normal in all responders at the end of.therapy and at 24 wk post therapy (100%). Only one patient (5.3%) developed an increase in creatinine and decline in Gf. f.om baseline towards the end of.treatment. This patient's kidney biopsy revealed borderline rejection. There was no impact on response by HCV-genotype, initial HCV RNA load, age or sex of.the patient or duration post transplant bef.re commencement of.therapy. all patients tolerated treatment in the same way as non-transplant with no unusual or increased occurrence of.side ef.ects. CONCLUSiON: The combination of.pegylated interf.ron and ribavirin is ef.ective in su

Energy levels and the reduced probability of.E2- transitions f.r ytterbium isotopes with proton number Z = 70 and neutron numbers between 100 and 106 have been calculated through phenomenological （PhM） and interacting boson （iBM-1） models. The predicted low-lying levels （energies, spins and parities） and the reduced probability f.r E2- transitions results are reasonably consistent with the available experimental data. The predicted low-lying levels （gr-, β1- and γ1- band） produced in the PhM are in good agreement with the experimental data compared with those by iBM-1 f.r all nuclei of.interest. in addition, the phenomenological model was successf.l in predicting the β2-, β3-, β4-, γ2- and 1＋- band while it was a f.ilure with iBM-1. also, the 3＋- band is predicted by the iBM-1 model f.r 172Yb and 174yb nuclei. all calculations are compared with the available experimental data.
