Oviposition Site Preference and its Effects on Subsequent Development of Variegated Grasshopper (Zonocerus variegatus L.) under Laboratory Conditions

Female grasshoppers can affect the fitness of their offspring through their selection of oviposition site. Knowledge of soil type on oviposition, and its effects on subsequent development can provide guidelines for habitat manipulations that reduce the harmful effects of these pests on farmers fields. The influence of soil types on the oviposition site preference of variegated grasshopper (Zonocerus variegatus L.) reared some cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) varieties, was investigated in a cage trial carried out at the Bio factory laboratory, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Njala University, Sierra Leone during 2022/2023. The treatments comprised three soil types (Sandy, Loamy and Clay), each with three replications laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) in wooden cages. Data were collected on the following development parameters including, Net reproductive growth ratio (R0), Generation time (Tc), intrinsic rate of increase (rm), Finite rate of increase (), Doubling time (Dt), and overall survivorship. Findings revealed that, Z. variegatus L. preferred sandy soil in which, on average, most eggs were deposited (338, 6.62 4.40), followed by loamy soil, 286 (5.53 3.96), and then, clayey soil, 200 (3.91 3.85);though, the differences were not significant. This study established that Z. variegatus deposited more eggs in sandy soil > loamy soil > clayey soil, respectively;and subsequent survivorship of the immature unto mature adult insect, revealed a similar order. This indicates that the sandy soil is the most preferred substrate for oviposition and subsequent development into adult insects.

it was a 36-year-old patient, 5th Pregnancy, 5th Delivery, 4 live children, and i deceased, had a consultation in the department for the removal of implants. Questioning revealed that she had had the implant three years ago without medical follow-up. it was in view of the difficulties in extracting the capsule that the chest X-ray and CT scan carried out concluded that the implant had migrated into a branch of the left pulmonary artery. Therapeutic abstention has been the attitude of cardiovascular surgeons.

Size distribution and source of heavy metals in particulate matter on the lead and zinc smelting affected area

in order to understand the size distribution and the main kind of heavy metals in particulate matter on the lead and zinc smelting affected area, particulate matter （PM） and the source samples were collected in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province from December 2011 to January 2012 and the results were discussed and interpreted. Atmospheric particles were collected with different sizes by a cascade impactor. The concentrations of heavy metals in atmospheric particles of different sizes, collected from the air and from factories, were measured using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry （iCP-MS）. The results indicated that the average concentration of PM, chromium （Cr）, arsenic （As）, cadmium （Cd） and lead （Pb） in PM was 177.3 ± 33.2 μg/m^3, 37.3 ± 8.8 ng/m^3, 17.3 ± 8.1 ng/m^3, 4.8 ± 3.1 ng/m^3 and 141.6 ± 49.1 ng/m^3, respectively. The size distribution of PM displayed a bimodal distribution; the maximum PM size distribution was at 1.1-2.1 μm, followed by 9-10 μm. The size distribution of As, cd and Pb in PM was similar to the distribution of the PM mass, with peaks observed at the range of 1.1-2.1 μm and 9-10 μm ranges while for Cr, only a single-mode at 4.7-5.8 μm was observed. PM （64.7%, As （72.5%）, cd （72.2%） and Pb （75.8%） were associated with the fine mode below 2.1 μm, respectively, while Cr （46.6%） was associated with the coarse mode. The size distribution characteristics, enrichment factor, correlation coefficient values, source information and the analysis of source samples showed that As, Cd and Pb in PM were the typical heavy metal in lead and zinc smelting affected areas, which originated mainly from lead and zinc smelting sources.

Over the past few decades,the metal elements(MEs)in atmospheric particles have aroused great *** well-established techniques have been used to measure particlebound ***,each method has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of complexity,accuracy,and specific elements of *** this study,the performances of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry(iCP-OES)and total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy(TXRF)were evaluated for quality control to analyze data accuracy and *** statistic methods(Deming regression and significance testing)were applied for intercomparison between iCP-OES and TXRF measurements for same lowloading PM_(2.5)samples in Weizhou *** results from the replicate analysis of standard filters(SRM 2783)and field filters samples indicated that 10 MEs(K,Ca,V,Cr,Mn,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,and Pb)showed good accuracies and precision for both *** higher accuracy tended to the higher precision in the MEs analysis *** addition,the interlab comparisons illustrated that V and Mn all had good agreements between iCP-OES and *** measurements of K,Cu and Zn were more reliable by TXRF analysis for low-loading PM_(2.5).iCP-OES was more accurate for the determinations for Ca,Cr,Ni and Pb,owing to the overlapping spectral lines and low sensitivity during TXRF *** measurements of Fe,influenced by low-loading PM_(2.5),were not able to determine which instrument could obtain more reliable *** conclusions could provide reference information to choose suitable instrument for the determination of MEs in low-loading PM_(2.5)samples.

Factors influencing the Acceptance of the Gametes Donation in Cote d’ivoire/West Africa

introduction: Africans ensure their offspring by transmitting their own genes. Even if adoption is a common thing in Africa, the biological kinship keeps its supremacy. The following study tries to identify socio-cultural factors that may influence the couples’ attitude towards the gametes donation. Methods: All female patients consulting for a childbearing desire and with an indication of an assisted reproductive technique with a third donor, were included in this longitudinal retrospective and prospective study at the teaching hospital of Yopougon and in a private clinic from 1st September 2014 to 31 October 2015. 100 couples were included. Chi square test was used for statistics data. The following factors were analyzed: age, sex, religion, profession, anterior procreation, existence of a common child, infertility duration. Results: Only the age had a significant link with the egg donation refusal rate. Conclusion: This work makes it possible to foresee that Africans have the same conception of procreation because one finds this desire of childbearing in all the layers of the society.

introduction: The need for childbearing is greater in Sub-Saharan countries for socio-cultural reasons. in fact, it is correlated to the need for the transmission of one’s own genes. That is why the assisted reproductive technology with a third party donor can be considered as proxy procreation and can be rejected. Methods: All female patients who consulted for a childbearing desire and who needed an assisted reproductive technology with a third party donor were included in the study held at the university teaching hospital of Yopougon and in a private clinic from 1 September 2014 to 31 October 2015. 100 couples were included. Results: 82% of the men accepted the gametes donation in their couple and 89% of women did. 54% of the men accepted the donation spontaneously and 66% of the women too. The others were reserved before accepting it finally. The reasons for this reserved attitude regarding the donation were mainly the need to reflect for the men and the necessity to seek for their partner’s opinion concerning the women. Conclusion: The rate of acceptability of the gametes donation is very high in C?te d’ivoire in spite of the cultural perception of the genes transmission.

Uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare uterine malignancy that represents approximately 1% of uterine cancers. The nonspecific symptoms cause difficulties in the diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic. We report an unusual progressive form, with a uterine inversion of LMS fundal externalized out of the vulva in a patient of 48 years old premenopausal.

introduction: The World Health Organization estimates that each year more than 20 million women suffer from the after-effects of unattended childbirth, of which 800 women die every day as a result of obstetric complications. Objective: Study the socio-epidemiological aspects and prognosis of unassisted deliveries arriving at the Fousseyni Daou De Kayes hospital. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study with prospective collection, case-control that took place at the maternity ward of the Fousseyni Daou hospital in Kayes, from 1 January to 31 December 2021. Results: The frequency of unattended birth was 4.1%. The 30 - 35 age group was the most represented with 32.5%. in our study 58.1% of cases were out of school, 19.4% were primigestes and 39.4% were multiparous. in our series 60.6% of cases had given birth at home and 39.4% along the way. The majority of cases regretted having given birth without the assistance of qualified personnel in 45.6%. Maternal complications were dominated by perineal lesions in 14.4% of cases, haemorrhage of delivery in 25% of cases, severe anaemia in 30% of cases;16.7% of newborns were in poor condition, 13.6% were fresh stillbirths, 15.6% of newborns had obstetric trauma. The maternal death rate on arrival was 3%. Conclusion: The frequency of unassisted childbirth is high in the Kayes region. its complications can be serious for both the mother and the newborn.

Therapeutic Approach out of iVF of Ovulation Disorders in Sub-Saharian African

Objectives: To describe our management strategy of ovulation disorders. Patients and methods: From a retrospective collection of data from the records, we identified over a period of one year (January 2016-December 2016), 47 patients followed in gynecology department of University and Hospital Centers of Yopougon and Treichville in Abidjan (Cote d’ivoire) for ovulation disorders. The diagnosis of dysovulation was made following a hormonal check up and a follicular monitoring ultrasound. These patients underwent a specific treatment according to the type of dysovulation they presented. Results: The average age was 31.9 years with a significant proportion of nulliparous (66%). Body mass index was high in 44.7% of patients, of whom 19.1% were obese and 25.6% overweight. The hormonal balance was disrupted in 48.9% of cases. Polycystic ovary syndrome (WHO type iib dysovulation) was the most common pathology (36%). The proposed treatments were dominated by clomiphene citrate (31.9%) and gonadotrophins (25.5%). 14.9% of pregnancies were obtained. Conclusion: This study allows us to offer better management of ovulation disorders, but this necessarily entails a careful exploration and an appropriate treatment.
