Overview of the Global Electricity System in Oman Considering Energy Demand Model Forecast

Lately,in modern smart power grids,energy demand for accurate forecast of electricity is gaining attention,with increased interest of *** is due to the fact that a good energy demand forecast would lead to proper responses for electricity *** addition,proper energy demand forecast would ensure efficient planning of the electricity industry and is critical in the scheduling of the power grid capacity and management of the entire power *** most power systems are been deregulated and with the rapid introduction and development of smart-metering technologies in Oman,new opportunities may arise considering the efficiency and reliability of the power system;like price-based demand response *** programs could either be a large scale for household,commercial or industrial ***,excellent demand forecasting models are crucial for the deployment of these smart metering in the power grid based on good knowledge of the electricity market ***,in this paper,an overview of the Oman regulatory regime,financial mechanism,price control,and distribution system security standard were *** so,the energy demand forecast in Oman was analysed,using the econometric model to forecasts its energy peak *** energy econometric analysis in this study describes the relationship between the growth of historical electricity consumption and macro-economic parameters(by region,and by tariff),considering a case study of Mazoon Electricity Distribution Company(MZEC),which is one of the major power distribution companies in Oman,for effective energy demand in the power grid.

Fe（NO3）3-9H2O/Fe（HSO4）3 was used as an efficient reagent system for the oxidation of alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds. All reactions were performed in the absence of solvent in good to high yields. Simulating soil loss rate in Ekbatan Dam watershed using experimental and statistical approaches

Reservoir sedimentation resulting from water erosion is an important environmental issue in many countries where storage of water is crucial for economic and agricultural development. Therefore, this paper reports results from analysis of the soil hydrological response, i.e. soil water erosion, to simulated rainfall resulting in sediment accumulation at the reservoir of Ekbatan Dam(Hamedan province, iran). Also, another objective of this study was to simulate the future trends in reservoir sedimentation(soil loss rate; SLR) from indoor rainfall simulator data by multiple linear regression(MLR) and Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs). For this research, three sampling points with different types of soils were chosen including clayey sand soil(SC-SM),silty soil(ML), and clayey soil(CL). The input parameters were slope gradient(sin θ), soil type(St), water content(w), dry density e?dT; shear strength(τ), unconfined compressive strength(qu), permeability(k), and Cali.ornia bearing ratio(CBR). Using MLR and ANN methods, 7 models were developed with 2 constant predictors(i.e. sin θ and St) and 6 free predictors which were added in each step one by one. Among MLR models, model 5 with St,sin θ,?d, τ, w, and quas input parameters was statistically significant. Among ANN models, model 4 with St,sin θ,?d, τ, and w as input parameters, 9 nodes, and 1 hidden layer was statistically significant. The root mean square error(RMSE), mean error(ME), and correlation coefficient(R) values were1.433 kg/m~2 h, 0.0195 kg/m~2 h, and 0.698 for the MLR model and 0.38 kg/m~2 h, 0.151 kg/m~2 h, and 0.98 for the ANN model, respectively. These results show that the ANN model could better predict the SLR in comparison to the MLR model. The results also demonstrate that shear strength, among the strength parameters, had a greater impact on the SLR than compressive strengths(quand CBR). Last but not the least, the reservoir sedimentation was estimated for all methods and compared with the observed data

Hydrological and economic feasibility of mitigating a stressed coastal aquifer using managed aquifer recharge: a case study of Jamma aquifer, Oman

This study explored the hydrological and economic feasibility of managed aquifer recharge(MAR) using tertiary treated wastewater(TWW) to mitigate salinity in the coastal aquifer of Jamma, Oman. A steady-state groundwater flow and transport model, using MODFLOW software, was developed and calibrated. Different managerial scenarios were simulated and the results reveal that the Jamma aquifer will be further deteriorated in the next 20 a if it remains unmanaged. The groundwater table will decline further by more than 3 m on average; and the iso-concentration salinity line of 1500 mg/L will advance 2.7 km inland, which will severely affect the farming activities in the area. However, MAR using TWW when integrated with the management of groundwater abstraction(e.g., using modern irrigation systems to reduce the abstraction rate) becomes hydrologically feasible to augment the aquifer storage and control seawater intrusion, and hence improves the farming activities. The results indicate that:(1) injecting TWW in the vicinity of irrigation wells(Scenario A2);(2) investing in smart water meters and online control of pumping from the wells to reduce the abstraction rate by 25%(Scenario B); and(3) a combination of both(Scenario B2) are feasible scenarios with positive net present values. Recharge in upstream areas is found not economically feasible because of the very high investment cost of the installation of pipes to transport the TWW over a distance of 12.5 km. Because of securing funds are challenging, Scenario B would be the best option and the second-best option is Scenario A2. Scenario B2 has the lowest net benefit investment ratio and is very attractive because it entails integrated demand and supply management of groundwater. it is required to reduce pumping and to invest in injecting TWW to improve groundwater quality in the vicinity of irrigation wells and to form a hydrological barrier to control seawater intrusion in the long run.

The authors propose a distributed field mapping algorithm that drives a team of robots to explore and learn an unknown scalar field using a Gaussian Process(GP).The authors’strategy arises by balancing exploration objectives between areas of high error and high *** computing high error regions is impossible since the scalar field is unknown,a bio-inspired approach known as Speeding-Up and Slowing-Down is leveraged to track the gradient of the GP *** approach achieves global field-learning convergence and is shown to be resistant to poor hyperparameter tuning of the *** approach is validated in simulations and experiments using 2D wheeled robots and 2D flying mini-ature autonomous blimps.

A study of the performance of the LSWA CO2 EOR technique on improvement of oil recovery in sandstones

Low salinity water is an emerging enhanced oil recovery(EOR)method that causes wettability alteration towards a favorable state to reduce residual oil saturation,while water alternating gas(WAG)is a proven EOR process that enhances oil recovery by controlling mobility of both water and ***,combining the two EOR processes as low salinity water-alternating CO2 EOR injection(LSWA CO2)can further improve oil recovery by promoting the synergy of the mechanisms underlying these two *** flooding experiments,contact angle,interfacial tension(iFT),and CO2 solubility measurement in oil and brine were conducted to investigate the viability and performance of LSWA CO2 in sandstone reservoirs.A favorable wettability alteration,along with iFT reduction and mobility control,are the mechanisms that contribute to residual oil mobilization efficiencies during the LSWA CO2 EOR *** addition,LSWA CO2 core flooding experiments result in a significant incremental oil *** smart waters were tested in our research,to examine the impact of changing cationic composition on oil *** solutions are designed brines as NaCl(SW1),MgCl2(SW2),and KCl(SW3).Of the three solutions,SW1 yields the highest incremental oil recovery and highest iFT *** addition,it results in a favorable wettability alteration towards a more water-wet *** all cases,introducing CO2 to the brine/oil system shows a great advantage in terms of enhancing wettability modification,promoting iFT reduction,and controlling the displacement front of the injected fluid through mobility control.

Composition analysis and antimicrobial activity of essential oil from leaves of Laurus nobilis grown in Oman

Traditionally,Laurus nobilis is used for the treatment of earaches and skin rashes as well as *** most common technique to isolate the oil is hydro-distillation and *** investigation presented in this paper was aimed to unravel the antimicrobial activity and chemical composition of essential oil in the leaves of *** grown in *** essential oil was extracted from the leave of the selected plant species by hydro distillation using Clevenger type *** antimicrobial assay was done by disc diffusion methods against three bac-terial strains,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli,and one fungal strain:Candida *** isolated essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).The percentage yield of the essential oil was 0.064%(w/w).The essen-tial oil was found actively against the applied bacterial and fungal *** highest activity was found against *** and the lowest was against ***,and the order was ***>***>*** essential oil was also active against the fungus *** range of inhibition zones was 6-14 *** results of GC-MS analysis showed(E)-𝛽-caryophyllene to be the major component about 59.62%.Other major components included𝛼-selinene(14.03%),𝛼-humulene(8.65%),𝛽-selinene(4.99%),and𝛼-pinene(4.98%).in addition,several mi.or com-ponents were found in the essential oil of *** on the experimental results,it showed that the plant species that grown in Oman were a potential source of therapeutic *** con-clusion,the essential oil and the plant could be used as natural and potential therapeutic agents to treat earaches,skin rashes,and rheumatism.

Peripheral retinal non-perfusion and treatment response in branch retinal vein occlusion

AiM： To evaluate the association between the size of peripheral retinal non-perfusion and the number of intravitreal ranibizumab injections in patients with treatment-naive branch retinal vein occlusion （BRVO） and macular edema. METHODS： A total of 53 patients with treatment-naive BRVO and macular edema were included. Each patient underwent a full ophthalmologic examination including optical coherence tomography （OCT） imaging and ultra wide-field fluorescein angiography （UWFA）. Monthly intravitreal ranibizumab injections were applied according to the recommendations of the German Ophthalmological Society. Two independent, masked graders quantified the areas of peripheral retinal non-perfusion. RESULTS： intravitreal injections improved bestcorrected visual acuity （BCVA） significantly from 22.23± 16.33 Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study （ETDRS） letters to 36.23 ±15.19 letters （P〈0.001）, and mean central subfield thickness significantly reduced from 387±115 pm to 321±115 μm （P=0.01）. Mean number of intravitreal ranibizumab injections was 3.61±1.56. The size of retinal non-perfusion correlated significantly with the number of intravitreal ranibizumab injections （R= 0.724, P〈0.001）. CONCLUSiON： Peripheral retinal non-perfusion in patients with BRVO associates significantly with intravitreal ranibizumab injections in patients with BRVO and macular edema.
