The effect of Zn-Si3 N4 deposition prepared via direct electrolytic co-deposition on mild steel was studied as a result its inherent vulnerability to corrosion in an aggressive environment and failure on the application of *** experiment was conducted varyi.g.the mass concentration of silicon nitride(Si3 N4)between 7 and 13 gat cell voltage of 0.3 and 0.5 V,at constant temperature of 45℃.The morphologies of the coated surfaces were characterized usi.g.high resolution Nikon Optical Microscope and Scanni.g.Electron Microscope(SEM)reveali.g.that the particles of the Zn-Si3 N4 were homogeneously *** corrosion behaviour was studied usi.g.potentiodynamic polarization technique in 3.65%NaCl solution and the microhardness was examined usi.g.Brinell hardness testi.g.*** result of the corrosion experiment confirmed an improved corrosion resistance with a reduction in corrosion rate from 9.7425 mm/year to 0.10847 mm/year,maximum coati.g.efficiency of 98.9%,maximum polarization resistance of 1555.3 Ω and a very low current density of 9.33 × 10-6A/*** negative shift in the Ecorr revealed the cathodic protective nature of the *** microhardness was also found to have increased from 137.9 HBN for the unmodified steel to a maximum value of 263.3 HBN for the0.5 Zn-13 Si3 N4 coated steel representi.g.90.9% increment in hardness as a result of the matrix grain refini.g.and dispersion-strengtheni.g.ability of the incorporated Si3 N4 particles.

Metal contamination assessment in the urban stream sediments and tributaries of coastal area southwest Nigeria

A geochemical assessment of the fifty surface stream sediments from ikorodu Southwest Nigeria was carried out to determine the level of contamination. The sediments were dried, disaggregated and sieved to \75 lm fraction for geochemical analysis, usi.g.the aqua-regia digestion technique and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Major elements showed the followi.g.trend Fe [ Al [ Ca [ Na [ Mg [ K [ P [ Ti and were below the average shale concentration, except for Na in one *** from factor and correlation analyses showed two groups of trace elements Ni, Co, Mn, U, Th, Sr, V, La, Cr, Ba,Sc, ga, Cs, Nb, Rb, Y,Ce and Mo, Pb, Zn, As, Cd, Sb, Sn, Zr,which were from geogenic and anthropogenic sources, respectively. The enrichment factor showed that Cd, Bi, Pt, Mo and Ag were, for all samples, within background concentrations, except those of the Ogun River and the Owode Onirin, which showed significant enrichment of Cd, Zn, Cu,Pb and Ag, depletion to minimal enrichment for Bi, Mo and moderate enrichment for Pt. The contamination degree ranged between 1.25 and 143.79. The highest value was found at Owode Onirin and the lowest, at igbonla 7. The geoaccumulation index showed that all the stream sediments ranged between practically uncontaminated to moderately to highly contaminated—with Pb, Sn, Zn, Cd, Cu, Cr, Zr and Ba. The potential ecological risk factor and environmental risk index(iER) showed that all of the samples were within the class of low to medium contamination risk, except samples from the Owode Onirin, which fell within the class of very high risk to extremely high risk respectively.

Sedimentological and foraminiferal paleoecological studies were carried out for the Oligocene-Miocene Ogwashi-Asaba Formation of the Anambra Basin at the issele-Uku area in southern Nigeria,to reconstruct *** pattern of rock successions and textural characteristics suggest the prevalence of fluvio-deltaic setti.g.duri.g.the formation of lignites and clastic rocks of Ogwashi-Asaba *** benthic foraminiferal species such as Ammotium sp.,Textularia sp.,gavelinella sp.,Milliamina sp.,Reophax sp.,Bolivina sp.,Eponides sp.,Pseudobolivina *** Lenticulina *** the shale units whereas the planktonic forms are *** these species have very low population and diversity in the shales,which could be due to the presence of harsh conditions such as low oxygen level and scarcity of food,leadi.g.to poor *** assessments of benthic foraminifera's habitat suggest middle-to-inner neritic marine environment for the *** results suggest fluvial environment for the sandstone and deltaic for the *** Ogwashi-Asaba Formation in issele-Uku area of Anambra Basin,southern Nigeria,therefore,have records of shallow marine,and fluvio-deltaic paleoenvironments.

Performance evaluation of operational energy use in refurbishment, reuse, and conservation of heritage buildi.g. for optimum sustainability

The operational phase of a buildi.g.project has increasi.g.y gained importance with their energy performance becomi.g.valuable and determini.g.their operational excellence. in most heritage buildi.g.projects （HBPs）, the operational energy use aspects are less considered, and a systematic way of analyzi.g.their energy performance followi.g.project delivery is often lacki.g. The aim of this study is to evaluate the operational performance of refurbishment and reuse of UK listed church projects. The objective is to assess the operational energy use with a view to optimizi.g.their sustafnabie performance. The methodology includes eight selected case study buildi.g. refurbished and converted for multipurpose use. The case study approach provided qualitative insights into how the study contributes to a more structured requirements for energy management in HBPs with specific attention to energy-efficient buildi.g.operations. The findi.g. show the need to focus on fundamental areas of operational management （i.e. by developi.g.and implementi.g.more focused policy on operational energy performance of heritage buildi.g.） to minimize the energy required to operate them. The challenges of implementi.g.changes in operational energy performance improvement of heritage buildi.g. are addressed in the form of recommendations that could Lead to real results. The study concludes that leveragi.g.these areas requires commitment from all heritage buildi.g.stakeholders because they all have substantial roles in harmonizi.g.the requirement for the project＇s sustainability and not just the buildi.g.operators. Meanwhile, baseline project planni.g. periodic updati.g. monitori.g. and managi.g.the energy use pattern are suggested as measures that could greatly facilitate better energy performance to optimizi.g.their sustainable reuse compared with the traditional approach of tryi.g.to improve their thermal performance.

Determination of Airways Resistance, Volumetric Efficiency and Development of Ventilation Model of Rosh Pinah Zinc Mine Namibia

A quantitative technique was conducted at Rosh Pinah Zinc mine, Namibia with its main purpose to determine airways resistance which is a function of the parameters;roughness of the airways and the friction factor. The 32 branch points (i.e. a-ag) that stand for ventilation circuit have been selected. Data collected includes, length and width of airways, air velocity;air density, and roughness of the airways which were used to determine coefficient of frictions, friction factors and airway resistances. A ventilation model was developed. in order to improve the current ventilation model, airways resistance of the mine was determined and simulated in a modified model usi.g.VentSimTM software. An average total airways resistance of 0.32027 Ns2/m8 has been achieved for Rosh Pinah mine. it should be pointed out that, as the mine advances its production faces deeper, this value would increases suddenly. Simulation revealed that as much as 34.4 m3/s of air can be received at the production faces, compared to the measured received amount of 19.3 m3/s. Therefore, volumetric efficiency of the mine was improved from 29.3% to 68.3%. it was also noticed that after importi.g.the resistance values into the model together with other parameters, the model was greatly improved and no cause for concern.

This work presents the development of a test rig(tractor pulled)for measurement of motion resistance of towed narrow wheels with a view to obtaini.g.new design information to enhance the use of narrow wheels as traction members for low cost agricultural machines affordable by the low income earners or rural populace whose occupation is predominantly *** narrow wheels that can be used on the developed test rig are pneumatic bicycle wheels of different sizes,rigid bicycle wheel,motorcycle wheel and lugged-rigid wheel for a planti.g.*** towi.g.force which is equal to the motion resistance will be measured by the Mecmesin Basic Force gauge(BFg)with a maximum capacity of 2.5 kN installed on the test *** gauge is connected to a notebook with a Dataplot program to record the towi.g.force and import the measured force per unit time to the spread sheet for further *** test rig comprises two parts,one part holdi.g.the wheel and the second part hitched to the tractor,in between the two is the BFg to measure the towi.g.force and it is RS-232 interfaced to notebook *** test rig is designed for field use on different terrains to make comparison and obtain enough data to assist in the design and development of narrow wheel agricultural *** effect of the different wheel sizes,axle loads and inflation pressures on the motion resistance of the test wheels can be investigated easily usi.g.the developed test rig.

Effects of Machine Parameter and Natural Factors on the Productivity of Loadi.g.and Haulage Equipment

The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors which affect the performance of the loadi.g.and hauli.g.equipment at Skorpion zinc mine, Namibia and also to find possible solutions to eliminate them, so that the weekly Zinc Oxide and ex-pit waste tonnages required could be produced. This is due to the high demand of Zinc on the market. The investigation on road conditions was focused on the effects of rolli.g.resistance, grade resistance and road widths from the road between bench 540 in pit 103 to the Zinc oxide medium grade stockpile. Cycle time data were obtained by time and motion study of the load/haul/dump cycle from bench 540 loadi.g.site to the stockpile. The data used for equipment matchi.g.by queui.g.theory (excel modelli.g. was obtained when the loaders where loadi.g.Arkose at different loadi.g.sites. The effects of different weather conditions i.e. mist, rain and wind on production where determined by collecti.g.actual shift production tonnages and compari.g.with target shift production targets duri.g.this conditions. The results produced from time and motion studies show that the haul trucks have an average availability of 80.4% and utilization at 49.7% which are very low when compared to the benchmark value of 89% and 69% for availability and utilization respectively. Decline in performance time is caused by factors such as daily safety meeti.g., lunch breaks, blasti.g. tools break down and the daily machine service. Rolli.g.resistance is also one of the factors affecti.g.production time at the mine. The rolli.g.resistance of different segments was determined by roughness defect scores (RDS). From calculations, it is clearly seen that if the RR could be reduced to 2% on every road segment, then each cycle period per truck can be reduced by 1.24 minutes. Optimization of Blasti.g.Parameters Usi.g.Regression Models in Ratcon and NSCE granite Quarries, ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

This research examines optimization of blasti.g.parameters for economic production of granite aggregates in Ratcon and NSCE quarries located atibadan,OyoState. Samples were collected from the study areas for the determination of rock density and porosity. Schmidt hammer was used for in situ determination of rock hardness. Uniaxial compressive strength of in situ rock was estimated from the values obtained from Schmidt hammer rebound hardness test and density determined from laboratory test. Blasti.g.data were collected from the study areas for optimization. Multiple regression analysis usi.g.computer aided solution SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was used to analyse data obtained from the laboratory test, field test and the study areas. The estimated mean uniaxial compressive strength value of NSCE is 240 MPa and that of Ratcon is 200 MPa and their average densities and average porosities are2.63g/cm3,2.55g/cm3, 1.88% and 2.25% respectively. Eleven parameters were input into the multiple regression analysis to generate the models. Two parameters out of eleven input parameters such as geometric volume of blast (Y1) and number of boulders generated after blasti.g.(Y2) were dependent variables and the remaini.g.nine such as X1 (Drill hole diameter), X2 (Drill hole depth), X3 (Spaci.g., X4 (Burden), X5 (Average charge per hole), X6 (Rock density), X7 (Porosity), X8 (Uniaxial compressive strength) and X9 (Specific charge) were input as independent variables. The results of the models show that out of the nine independent variables seven of them that is X1 (Borehole diameter), X2 (Borehole depth), X3 (Spaci.g., X4 (Burden), X5 (Average charge per hole), X8 (Uniaxial compressive strength) and X9 (Specific charge) have significant contribution to the models while X6 (Rock Density) and X7 (Porosity) have insignificant contribution they are therefore automatically deleted by the SPSS. Analysis on Some Physical and Chemical Properties of Oreke Dolomite Deposit

The suitability of Oreke dolomite in Kwara State, Nigeria as a raw material for the manufacturi.g.of refractories was investigated. The Oreke dolomite samples were mi.g.ed with feldspar, clay, and quartz to form a blend. The fifteen (15) Blend samples were moulded and analyzed for their chemical, physical and mechanical properties. The characterization was carried out in accordance with American Society of Testi.g.and Material (ASTM). The blend samples were tested for various refractory properties such as bulk density, porosity, cold crushi.g.strength, linear shrinkage, refractoriness and others like water absorption and compressive strength. The chemical composition of the Blend was determined, usi.g.X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer and the result shows that Silica is 60%, Alumina is 11.5%, iron Oxide is 0.48%, Calcium Oxide is 10%, Magnesium is 6.4%, Alkali is 10.4%, and Loss of ignition of the sample is 15.28%. The addition of 10%-12% quart contents with dolomite of 20%-25% contents complements the percentage of silica in the blend thereby improvi.g.the properties of the blend. The strength characterization shows that the Compressive Strength (mean value) of the blend samples is 5.65 N/m2 with respect firi.g.temperature. The strength classification varies between medium to high and was found to satisfy the allowable standard values for the production of refractory wares.
