The massive flow of scholarly publications from traditional paper journals to online outlets has benefited biologists because of its ease to access. However, due to the sheer volume of available biological literature, researchers are finding it increasingly difficult to locate needed information. As a result, recent biology contests, notably JNLPBA and BioCreAtivE, have focused on evaluating various methods in which the literature may be navigated. Among these methods, text-mining technology has shown the most promise. With recent advances in text-mining technology and the fact that publishers are now making the full texts of articles available in XML format, TMSs can be adapted to accelerate literature curation, maintain the integrity of information, and ensure proper linkage of data to other resources. Even so, several new challenges have emerged in relation to full text analysis, life-science terminology, complex relation extraction, and information fusion. These challenges must be overcome in order for text-mining to be more effective. in this paper, we identify the challenges, discuss how they might be overcome, and consider the resources that may be helpful in achieving that goal.

Experiments are carried out to study the characteristics of active bubbles entrained by breaking waves as these propagate over an abruptly topographical change or a submerged breakwater. Underwater sounds generated by the entrained air bubbles are detected by a hydrophone connected to a charge amplifier and a data acquisition system. The size distribution of the bubbles is then determined inversely from the received sound frequencies. The sound signals are converted from time domain to time-frequency domain by applying Gabor transform. The number of bubbles with different sizes are counted from the signal peaks in the time-frequency domain. The characteristics of the bubbles are in terms of bubble size spectra, which account for the variation in bubble probability density related to the bubble radius r. The experimental data demonstrate that the bubble probability density function shows a - 2.39 power-law sealing with radius for r 〉 0. 8 mm, and a- 1.11 power law for r 〈0.8 mm.

The shoe sole geometrical design parameters are believed to be important factors affecting the coefficient of friction （COF） between the shoe/floor interface. This study is concerned with the relationship between the measured COF and the tread groove orientation and width on the footwear pad. Friction measurements using the Brungraber Mark Ⅱ slipmeter were conducted. Six tread groove width/orientations designs on the footwear pads under 27 footwear material/floor/contamination conditions were tested. The results show that tread orientation and width affect the measured COF significantly. Wider grooved footwear pads result in higher COF values and footwear pads with tread grooves perpendicular to the friction measurement direction have higher COF values. A regression model using measured COF as the dependent variable and tread groove width, groove orientation, footwear material, floor, and contamination conditions as independent variables was established. The models are significant at p〈0.0001 with R^2 of 0.97, which may be used in predicting the COF at the shoe-floor interface .
