Structural,electronic,optical,and magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu2O

We investigate the magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu_2O. We studied first the electronic and structural properties of Cu_2O using the optimization of the lattice constant which is 4.18 . The calculated gap is found between 0.825 eV and1.5 eV, these values are in good agreement with the experimental results. The Co atoms are inserted in Cu_2O by means of the density functional theory（DFT） using LSDA, LSDA ＋U, and LSDA ＋ MBJ approximations in the WiEN2 k code, based on the supercell model by setting up 12, 24, and 48 atoms in（1×1 × 2）,（1 × 2 × 2）, and（2 × 2×2） supercells respectively with one or two copper atoms being replaced by cobalt atoms. The energy difference between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic coupling of the spins located on the substitute Co has been calculated in order to obtain better insight into the magnetic exchange coupling for this particular compound. The studied compound exhibits stable integer magnetic moments of 2 μBand 4 μBwhen it is doped with 2 atoms of Co. Optical properties have also been worked out. The results obtained in this study demonstrate the importance of the magnetic effect in Cu_2O.

The present study aims to investigate the equation of state(EOS)parameters of CaMg3 in aReCh(D09),AiFR(DO3),CU3A11(Li2)and CuTi3(L60)structures,using full potential linear muffin-tin orbitals(FP-LMTO)approach based on the density functional theory(DFT).The local density approximation(LDA)and the generalized gradient approximation(GGA)were both applied for the exchange-correlation potential *** calculated equation of slate parameters at equilibrium,in general,agreed well with the available data of the *** calculations showed that under compression CaMg3 transforms from DO3 to DO9 at about 29.96GPa,and 25.1 GPa using LDA and GGA,*** elastic constants C,y,aggregate moduli,Vickers hardness,sound velocity,and Debye temperature of CaMg3 in D03 structure were also reported,discussed and *** LDA(GGA),the calculated values of Hv andθD were found at around 5.80GPa(5.93GPa)and 393.44 K(389.91 K),*** band structure,total density of states(TDOS)as well as the partial density of states(PDOS)have been also *** electronic band structure confirms the metallic behavior of CaMg3 in DO3 phase,the valence bands are dominated by the maximum contribution of‘d’like states of Ca in the energy ranging from 2 to 3 eV for GGA,and from 4.5 to 5 eV for LDA,respectively.

Biochemical Approach to Assess Groundwater Pollution by Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Case Skikda Algeria)

Due to the accelerated population growth and development in all sectors especially industry, more water has been pumped and more effluents have been rejected to the natural system. in the coastal Skikda Valley;Petrochemical industry is practiced along the year and almost groundwater are threatened. This work is referred to the characterization of the environmental hydrobiochemistry in the coastal petrochemical industrial area. The study has investigated the groundwater pollution by hydrocarbons using biochemical approach and assessing the nature and extent of contamination of groundwater in relation to petroleum industrial activities surrounding tank, channel and pipe. At site of this industrial zone, groundwater circulates on slight deep in the mio-pliocene alluviums (sand and gravel) which is characterized by an important permeability. Groundwater quality analysis proved that groundwater quality is largely polluted with respect to BOD5, COD, TPH and TSS. So, a narrow relationship between BOD and TPH and important qualitative degradation of the groundwater is shown, especially in the parts situated in the down gradient area and in direct proximity of tank, channel and pipe. The extent of groundwater contamination is influencing by the depth of the water table, permeability of the soil and therefore infiltration rate. in order to prevent further pollution of groundwater, oil must be stored and transported via impervious tank, pipe and channel. So, effluents must be treated prior to discharge.

The study area is located in a Mediterranean region, so the effects of the climate variations are very important. The authors contribution to this subject is based on the compilation of many results obtained from dissertations and theses that are carried out under their supervision. The main tool used, in addition to other methods, is the water hydrochemistry as it is proved very useful in obtaining good results and helpful in getting objective interpretations regarding the presence and absence of salinity. Several factors are undertaken to show the presence of salts in waters in the plain, the lithology of the geological formations shows that they are composed of alluvium sediments where the permeability is quite high, and this enables hydraulic communication between the fresh water of the aquifer and saline water of the sea. The study of climate shows a decrease of precipitation which favors an important decrease of recharge rate to the aquifer, and hence a decrease of water resource. The strontium which is a good indicator for the origin of salinity shows a variation that indicates a variation in the distribution of the salinity, and therefore diverse origins of salinity all over the studied area. This can infer the presence of marine invasion in the down-stream part of the aquifer, whereas elsewhere salinity is caused by the presence of evaporitic formation, mainly by the argillaceous matrix in the bottom of the lake. in the up-stream part of the aquifer. in the lake, salinity is explained
