Characteristics of fever and response to antipyretic therapy in military personnel with adenovirus-positive community acquired pneumonia

Background:In 2014,an outbreak of adenoviral pneumonia occurred in the Korean military training ***,there are limited data on the characteristics of the fever and its response to antipyretic therapy in immunocompetent adults with adenovirus-positive community-acquired pneumonia(CAP).Methods:The medical records of the patients who were admitted to the Armed Forces Chuncheon Hospital for the treatment of CAP between January 2014 and December 2016 were retrospectively *** patients were divided into three groups,namely,the adenovirus-positive(Adv)group,the adenovirus-negative(Non-Adv)group and the unknown pathogen group,according to the results of a polymerase chain reaction(PCR)test and sputum culture used to measure adenovirus and other bacteria or viruses in respiratory *** evaluated and compared the demographics,clinicolaboratory findings and radiological findings upon admission between the two ***:Out of the 251 military personnel with CAP during the study periods,67 were classified into the Adv group,while 134 were classified into the Non-Adv group and 50 were classified into the unknown pathogen *** patients in the Adv group had a longer duration of fever after admission((3.2±1.6)d vs.(1.9±1.2)d vs.(2.2±1.5)d,P=0.018)and symptom onset((5.8±2.2)d vs.(3.9±2.5)d vs.(3.7±2.0)d,P=0.006)than patients in the Non-Adv and unknown pathogen groups,*** patients in the Adv group had a higher mean temperature at admission(37.8±0.3 vs.37.3±0.3 vs.37.3±0.3,P=0.005),and more patients were observed over 40 and 39 to 40(14.9%vs.2.2%vs.4.0%,35.8%vs.3.7%vs.6.0%,P<0.001)than those in the Non-Adv and unknown pathogen groups,*** Adv group more commonly had no response or exhibited adverse events after antipyretic treatment compared to the Non-Adv group(17.9%vs.1.5%,35.0%vs.4.3%,P<0.001,P=0.05,respectively).In addition,the time from admission to overall clinical stabilization was significantly longer in the patients

We introduce a new function space that is much finer than the classical Lebesgue spaces, and investigate the continuity and the discontinuity of the Calderon-Zygmund operators on the new weighted spaces. In order to identify the continuity of singular integrals, we prove an interpolation theorem on the new spaces and propose a concept of the spectrum of base functions.

Potential effects of future adoption of the REDD mechanism as a preventive measure against deforestation and forest degradation in North Korea

This study assesses potential effects of adaption to climate change in the future as a carbon related value using a baseline and credit approach, considering the implementation of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation （REDD） mechanism. Basic data were obtained for implementing the REDD mechanism in the Democratic People＇s Republic of Korea （DPRK） for scientific decision-making to prevent deforestation and forest degradation. The potential effects according to the implementation of the REDD mechanism in the DPRK based on forest status data （the latest） are as follows. If the deforestation rate is reduced to a level below 6% through a 20-year REDD mechanism beginning in 2011, 0.01-11.64 C-tons of carbon credit per ha could be issued for DPRK. Converted into C02-tons per ha, this amounts to 0.03-42.68 C02-tons, which translates to a minimum of 226,000 CO2-tons and a maximum of 289,082,000 C02-tons overall for forests in DPRK. In terms of carbon price, this measures up to 1.1o million USD- 1.4 billion USD, considering that the REDD carbon price in voluntary carbon markets in 2010 was around 5 USD.

Flora, life form characteristics, and plan for the promotion of biodiversity in South Korea＇s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System, the traditional Gudeuljang irrigated rice terraces in Cheongsando

The objectives of this study were to analyze the biodiversity of the Traditional Gudeuljang Irrigated Rice Terraces in Cheongsando, South Korea's representative GIAHS(Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System) site, with reference to position and land-use features, and to develop a plan to promote agricultural biodiversity in the region. We confirmed approximately 54,000 m2 of Gudeuljang paddy fields by an on-site survey. Of the Traditional Gudeuljang Irrigated Rice Terraces confirmed by onsite inspection, our survey showed that approximately 24,000 m2 are currently being used as paddy fields, approximately 15,000 m2 are being used as dry fields, and approximately 14,000 m2 are fallow. In terms of other non-agricultural land use, there was grassland, including graveyards; artificial arboreal land, such as orchards, rivers and wetlands, and man-made facilities, such as roads and residences. We also confirmed that the Traditional Gudeuljang Irrigated Rice Terraces had higher plant species diversity than conventional terraced rice paddies, and there was a difference in life form characteristics between the two types. Although the superficial topsoil structure is thesame for the Traditional Gudeuljang Irrigated Rice Terraces(TGIRTs) and conventional terraced rice paddies, it is thought that the differences in the subsurface structure of the TGIRTs contribute greatly to species and habitat diversity. However, the TGIRTs in Cheongsando are facing degeneration, due to damage and reduction in agricultural activity. The main cause is the reduction in the number of farming households due to an aging population in Cheongsando. In order to address this problem, we proposed a management plan, related to fallow paddy fields in South Korea, to initiate voluntary activities in the TGIRTs.

Improved corrosion resistance of Mg alloy AZ31B induced by selective evaporation of Mg using large pulsed electron beam irradiation

Large pulsed electron beam(LPEB) irradiation was employed as a surface treatment of magnesium(Mg)alloy AZ31B to enhance its corrosion and wear resistance. Selective evaporation of Mg induced by LPEB irradiation at an energy density of 5J/cm^2 for 40 cycles has led to the formation of an Al-enriched resolidified layer with nano-grained structure consisting of Mg3.1 Al0.9 metastable phase. The formation of such a re-solidified layer after LPEB irradiation has enabled a decrease in corrosion rate of Mg alloy AZ31B in 3.5% NaCl solution. Different equivalent electrical circuit models were proposed to account for the corrosion behavior of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B and those subjected to LPEB irradiation. A decrease in wear depth when compared to that of the untreated alloy suggests an increase in wear resistance of LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B. Adhesive wear is the predominant mechanism of untreated Mg alloy AZ31B while abrasive wear mechanism dominates for LPEB-irradiated Mg alloy AZ31B.

Integrated Design of D.D.I., Filament Winding and Curing Processes for Manufacturing the High Pressure Vessel(Type Ⅱ)

As energy crisis and environment pollution all around the world threaten the widespread use of fossil fuels,compressed natural gas(CNG)vehicles are explored as an alternative to the conventional gasoline powered *** of the limited space available for the car,the composite pressure vessel(TypeⅡ)has been applied to the CNG vehicles to reach large capacity and weight lightening *** pressure vessel(TypeⅡ)is composed of a composite layer and a metal *** metal liner is formed by the deep drawing and ironing(D.D.I.)process,which is a complex process of deep drawing and *** cylinder part is reinforced by composite layer wrapped through the filament winding process and is bonded to the liner by the curing *** this study,an integrated design method was presented by establishing the techniques for FE analysis of entire processes(D.D.I.,filament winding and curing processes)to manufacture the CNG composite pressure vessel(TypeⅡ).Dimensions of the dies and the punches of the 1 st(cup drawing),2 nd(redrawing-ironing 1-ironing 2)and 3 rd(redrawing-ironing)stages were calculated theoretically,and shape of tractrix die to be satisfied with the minimum forming load was suggested for life improvement and manufacturing costs in the *** of the composite material was determined in the filament winding process,finally,conditions of the curing process(number of heating stage,curing temperature,heating rate and time)were proposed to reinforce adhesive strength between the composite layers.

Stress analysis model of strip winding system with a sleeve for a coil of thin stainless steel

In a strip winding process,the sleeve is a hollow cylinder that is mounted between a strip coil and a mandrel to maintain uniform coil shape when the strip coil is very thin,but its deformation behavior has not been investigated ***,a finite element（FE）model was presented to calculate the stress distribution in a sleeve and strip coil when 1-3mm-thick stainless steel was wound around the *** FE model was developed by extending aprevious model by adding a sleeve between the mandrel and strip,and by modifying the boundary and interaction *** strip winding process was divided into an initial process and a steady-state *** the initial process,the minimum and maximum pressure required on the belt wrapper to maintain coil shape by self-friction of the strip was calculated by the FE model when the belt wrapper is ejected at the end of the initial *** the initial process,an analytical model of the steady-state process was established to calculate the stress distribution and was compared with the FE model to validate *** suggested analytical model took 11 sto give the same stress distribution that the FE model took 30 dto produce.

Efficacy and safety of conversion of percutaneous cholecystostomy to endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting in high-risk surgical patients

Background:Endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting(ETGBS)has been used as an alternative to percutaneous cholecystostomy in patients with acute cholecystitis who are considered unfit for ***,there are few data on the efficacy and safety of ETGBS replacement of percutaneous cholecystostomy in high-risk surgical *** study aimed to evaluate the feasibility,efficacy,and safety of ETGBS to replace percutaneous cholecystostomy in high-risk surgical ***:This single center retrospective study reviewed the data of patients who attempted ETGBS to replace percutaneous cholecystostomy between January 2017 and September *** technical success,clinical success,adverse events,and stent patency were ***:ETGBS was performed in 43 patients(24 male,mean age 80.7±7.4 years)to replace percutaneous cholecystostomy due to high surgical *** technical success rate and clinical success rate were 97.7%(42/43)and 90.5%(38/42),***-related adverse events and stent-related late adverse events occurred in 7.0%(3/43)and 11.6%(5/43),*** the patients who successfully underwent ETGBS(n=42),only one had recurrent acute cholecystitis during *** median stent patency was 415 days(interquartile range 240–528 days).Conclusions:ETGBS,as a secondary intervention for the purpose of internalizing gallbladder drainage in patients following placement of a percutaneous cholecystostomy,is safe,effective,and technically ***,conversion of percutaneous cholecystostomy to ETGBS may be considered as a viable option in high-risk surgical patients.

EMMS drag model for simulating a gas-solid fluidized bed of geldart B particles: Effect of bed model parameters and polydisperity

The energy minimization multi-scale(EMMS)is a heterogeneous drag model widely used to simulate gas-solid fluidized *** this work,we conducted computational fluid dynamics simulations of a gas-solid fluidized bed for Geldart B particles to compare the EMMS with the homogeneous Gidaspow drag *** results from both the homogeneous and heterogeneous drag models were compared with literature experimental data on pressure drop and bed *** was no noticeable difference in predicted bed characteristics in the slugging ***,in the turbulent regime,the EMMS model predicted slightly lower bed expansion than did the Gidaspow *** evaluated the effects of solid-solid and solid-wall interaction parameters by varying the restitution and specularity *** expansion increases by a factor of 1.05-1.08 when the restitution coefficient increases from 0.9 to *** models predict a higher solid volume fraction and higher solid downflow velocity near the wall for a low specularity coefficient of 0.01 or *** we considered solid phases of different sizes to model polydisperity,the simulation predicted vertical segregation of 300,350,and 400μm in the fluidized region due to ***,the drag models made similar predictions in bad characteristics from cold model simulation ofa polysilicon fluidized-bed reactor,although there was very little vertical segregation of solid particles for this case.
