Liver intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging for the assessment of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in children

AIM To evaluate the correlation between intravoxel incoherent motion(IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI) parameters and the degree of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in *** This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board. The children(≤ 18 years) who underwent liver IVIM DWI with 8 b-values under the suspicion of hepatic steatosis or fibrosis from February 2013 to November 2016 were included. Subjects were divided into normal, fatty liver(FAT), and fibrotic liver(FIB) groups. The slow diffusion coefficient(D), fast diffusion coefficient(D*), perfusion fraction(f), and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) were measured. MR proton density fat fraction(PDFF), MR elastography(MRE), and IVIM values were *** A total of 123 children(median age of 12 years old, range: 6-18 years) were included, with 8 in the normal group, 93 in the FAT group, and 22 in the FIB group. The D* values were lower in the FIB group compared with those of the normal(P = 0.015) and FAT(P = 0.003) groups. The f values were lower in the FIB group compared with the FAT group(P = 0.001). In multivariate analyses, PDFF value was positively correlated with f value(β = 3.194, P < 0.001), and MRE value was negatively correlated with D* value(β =-7.031, P = 0.032). The D and ADC values were not influenced by PDFF or MRE *** In liver IVIM DWI with multiple b-values in children, there was a positive correlation between hepatic fat and blood volume, and a negative correlation between hepatic stiffness and endovascular blood flow velocity, while diffusion-related parameters were not affected.

BACKGROUND A recent retrospective study confirmed that hepatic stiffness and splenic stiffness measured with magnetic resonance elastography(MRE) are strongly associated with the presence of esophageal varices. Patients who had undergone Kasai operations for biliary atresia were selected for the Kasai group, and patients with normal livers and spleens were selected for the control group. Korean Morphological Analysis for Korean-Vietnamese Statistical Machine Translation

This paper describes the experiments with Korean-to-Vietnamese statistical machine translation(SMT). The fact that Korean is a morphologically complex language that does not have clear optimal word boundaries causes a major problem of translating into or from Korean. To solve this problem, we present a method to conduct a Korean morphological analysis by using a pre-analyzed partial word-phrase dictionary(PWD).Besides, we build a Korean-Vietnamese parallel corpus for training SMT models by collecting text from multilingual magazines. Then, we apply such a morphology analysis to Korean sentences that are included in the collected parallel corpus as a preprocessing step. The experiment results demonstrate a remarkable improvement of Korean-to-Vietnamese translation quality in term of bi-lingual evaluation understudy(BLEU).

Study on frictional behavior of carbon nanotube thin films with respect to surface condition

In this work, tribological characteristics of thin films composed of entangled carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were investigated. The surface roughness of CNT thin films fabricated via a dip‐coating process was controlled by squeezing during the process with an applied normal force ranging from 0 to 5 kgf. Raman spectra and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) images of the thin films were obtained to estimate the influence of the squeezing process on the crystallinity of the CNTs. The analysis revealed that squeezing could reduce surface roughness, while preserving the crystallinity of the CNTs. Moreover, the surface energy of the cover glass used to press the CNT thin film was found to be the critical factor controlling surface roughness. A micro‐tribometer and macro‐tribometer were used to assess the tribological characteristics of the CNT thin film. The results of the tribotest exhibited a correlation between the friction coefficient and surface roughness. Dramatic changes in friction coefficient could be observed in the micro‐tribotest, while changes in friction coefficient in the macro‐tribotest were not significant.

Recently,breast cancer stem cells(BCSCs)have rapidly emerged as a novel target for the therapy of breast cancer as they play critical roles in tumor growth,maintenance,metastasis,and ***-7 miRNA is known to be downregulated in a variety of cancers,especially BCSCs,whereas CDK4 being overexpressed in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER-2)overexpressing tumor *** this study,let-7 miRNA and CDK4-specific siRNA were chosen as therapeutic agents and co-encapsulated in Herceptinconjugated cationic liposomes for breast cancer *** size,zeta potential,and encapsulation efficacy of mi/siRNA-loaded PEGylated liposome conjugated with Herceptin(Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA)were 176 nm,28.1 mV,and 99.7%±0.1%,*** cellular uptake(86%)was observed by fluorescence microscopy when SK-BR-3 cells were treated with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/***,the increased amount of let-7a mRNA and decreased amount of cellular CDK4 mRNA were observed by qRT-PCR when SK-BR-3 cells were treated with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA,which was even more so when SK-BR-3 stem cells were used(197 vs 768 times increase for let-7a,62%vs 68%decrease for CDK4).Growth inhibition(65%)andmigration arrest(0.5%)of the cellswere achieved by the treatment of the cells with Her-PEG-Lipo-mi/siRNA,but not withmi/siRNA complex or other *** conclusion,an efficient liposomal delivery system for the combination of miRNA and siRNA to target the BCSCs was developed and could be used as an efficacious therapeuticmodality for breast cancer.

Properties of multilayer gallium and aluminum doped ZnO(GZO/AZO) transparent thin films deposited by pulsed laser deposition process

Multilayer gallium and aluminum doped ZnO (GZO/AZO) films were fabricated by alternative deposition of Ga-doped zinc oxide(GZO) and Al-doped zinc oxide(AZO) thin film by using pulsed laser deposition(PLD) process. The electrical and optical properties of these GZO/AZO thin films were investigated and compared with those of GZO and AZO thin films. The GZO/AZO (1:1) thin film deposited at 400 °C shows the electrical resistivity of 4.18×10-4 Ω·cm, an electron concentration of 7.5×1020 /cm3, and carrier mobility of 25.4 cm2/(V·s). The optical transmittances of GZO/AZO thin films are over 85%. The optical band gap energy of GZO/AZO thin films linearly decreases with increasing the Al ratio.

Background: Autophagy is elevated in metastatic tumors and is often associatedwith active epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). A Miniaturized Tadpole Robot Using an Electromagnetic Oscillatory Actuator

In this paper, we propose a miniaturized tadpole-like robot using an electromagnetic oscillatory actuator. The electro- magnetic actuator has a simple structure with a moving-magnet type and the body size is 13 mm （length） × 11 mm （height） ×10 mm （width）. A tail has the thickness of 100 μm and the length of 20 mm which is twice of the body-length （BL）. The tail attached to the oscillatory actuator generates undulatory propulsion for the forward swimming. Moreover, the tadpole robot enables the change of the direction by controlling input signal pattems applied to the oscillatory actuator. Prototypes of the tadpole robot have been manufactured and the thrust force and swimming speed are measured to evaluate the performance of the biomimetic robot in water at various tail-beat frequencies. The maximum thrust force is 42 mN at the tail-beat frequency of 30 Hz with voltage of 3 V, enabling the tadpole robot to swim at the speed of 210 mm·s^-1 （6 BL·s^-1）. The tadpole robot can also change its moving direction with the angular velocity of 21 deg·s^-1 at the half pulse pattem of 30 Hz.

Lithofacies modeling by multipoint statistics and economic evaluation by NPV volume for the early Cretaceous Wabiskaw Member in Athabasca oilsands area, Canada

The static modeling and dynamic simulation are essential and critical processes in petroleum exploration and development. In this study, lithofacies models for Wabiskaw Member in Athabasca, Canada are generated by multipoint statistics(MPS) and then compared with the models built by sequential indicator simulation(SIS). Three training images(Tls) are selected from modern depositional environments;the Orinoco River Delta estuary, Cobequid bay-Salmon River estuary, and Danube River delta environment. In order to validate lithofacies models, average and variance of similarity in lithofacies are calculated through random and zonal blind-well *** random six-blind-well test, similarity average of MPS models is higher than that of SIS model. The Salmon MPS model closely resembles facies pattern of Wabiskaw Member in subsurface. Zonal blind-well tests show that successful lithofacies modeling for transitional depositional setting requires additional or proper zonation information on horizontal variation, vertical proportion, and secondary *** Wabiskaw Member is frontier oilsands lease, it is impossible to evaluate the economics from production data or dynamic simulation. In this study, a dynamic steam assisted gravity drainage(SAGD)performance indicator(SPIDER) on the basis of reservoir characteristics is calculated to build 3 D reservoir model for the evaluation of the SAGD feasibility in Wabiskaw Member. SPIDER depends on reservoir properties, economic limit of steam-oil ratio, and bitumen price. Reservoir properties like porosity,permeability, and water saturation are measured from 13 cores and calculated from 201 well-logs. Three dimensional volumes of reservoir properties are constructed mostly based on relationships among properties. Finally, net present value(NPV) volume can be built by equation relating NPV and SPIDER.
