Diffuse axonal injury(DAI)is defined as the presence of microscopic axonal damage in the white matter of the brain produced by mechanical forces and is characterized histologically by widespread damage to axons(Maxwell et al.,1997).Diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)allows evaluation of the integrity of the white matter of brain to be determined by virtue of its ability to image water diffusion characteristics(Basser et al.,1994).

The present study investigated the relationships among event-related potentials (ERPs), memory, and schizophrenic symptoms in college students with schizotypal-traits. Scores on the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) were used to categorize the participants into schizotypal-trait (n = 30) and normal control (n = 37) groups. ERPs were assessed using an auditory oddball paradigm, in which a series of standard tones (1000 Hz) and target tones (1500 Hz) were presented;participants were asked to count the number of presented target tones. The verbal memory and visual memory of the participants were evaluated using the Korean version of the California Verbal Learning Test (K-CVLT) and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (RCFT), respectively. The schizotypal-trait and control groups did not differ in terms of age, educational level, IQ score, accuracy on the auditory oddball task, or performance on the K-CVLT and RCFT measures. However, the schizotypal-trait group exhibited significantly smaller P300 amplitudes than the control group. Additionally, the P300 amplitudes measured at Cz and Pz were negatively correlated with the cognitive-perceptual factor scores on the SPQ. Thus, the present results indicate that reduced P300 amplitudes may represent a biological marker of schizophrenia.

Glass-like carbon(GC)is a nongraphitizing material composed entirely of carbon atoms produced from selected organic polymer resins by controlled pyrolysis in an inert *** GC properties are a combination of the properties of glass,ceramic,and graphite,including hardness,low density,low thermal conductivity,high chemical inertness,biocompatibility,high electrical conductivity,and microfabrication process *** these unique properties,the application of GC in mechanical sensors has not been explored thus ***,we investigate the electrical,structural,and chemical properties of GC thin films derived from epoxy-based negative photoresist SU-8 pyrolyzed from 700 to 900°*** addition,we fabricated microGC piezoresistors pyrolyzed at 700 and 900°C and integrated them into nonpyrolyzed SU-8 cantilevers to create microelectromechanical systems(MEMS)mechanical *** sensitivities of the GC sensor to strain,force,surface stress,and acceleration are characterized to demonstrate their potential and limits for electromechanical microdevices.

We have studied the redox potentials and electronic properties of C60 and C59N using density functional theory method. It is found that doping C60 with one nitrogen atom results in a slight increase in redox potential. Next, we have also studied C59N functionalized with various redox-active oxygen containing functional groups and strongly electron withdrawing functional groups. It is found that the intrinsic electronic structure of the molecule is the major determinant of the redox potential. Our DFT calculations show that the electron affinity to redox potential of functionalized C59N is correlated with the LUMO of the systems very well. This is the first systematic study on the redox properties and electronic structures of N-doped C60 systems.

Dopants play an important role in synthesizing materials to improve target materials properties or stabilize the *** particular,the dopants are essential to improve thermoelectic performances of the ***,existing machine learning methods cannot accurately predict the materials properties of doped materials due to severely nonlinear relations with their materials ***,we propose a unified architecture of neural networks,called DopNet,to accurately predict the materials properties of the doped *** identifies the effects of the dopants by explicitly and independently embedding the host materials and the *** our evaluations,DopNet outperformed existing machine learning methods in predicting experimentally measured thermoelectric properties,and the error of DopNet in predicting a figure of merit(ZT)was 0.06 in mean absolute *** particular,DopNet was significantly effective in an extrapolation problem that predicts ZTs of unknown materials,which is a key task to discover novel thermoelectric materials.

While considerable effort is made to understand the solid solution strengthening on the deformation behavior of high-entropy alloys(HEAs),relatively little attention is paid to the role of microstructural interfaces,especially twin boundaries(TBs),on the strain-rate sensitivity(SRS)of *** address this,we have conducted micropillar compression experiments on single-,bi-,and twinned-crystals of Co CrFe Ni HEA and compared the results with those obtained with uniaxial tensile and compression tests on polycrystalline bulk *** show that SRS,as well as the yield strength and plastic flow behavior,in single crystals are orientation dependent due to the differences in the maximum Schmid *** the high-angle grain boundaries arrest dislocation motion,TBs allow for dislocation transmission through them,which result in distinct mechanical *** the bi-crystal’s deformation behavior is controlled by the‘hard’grain,twinned crystals exhibit an‘averaged’*** large diversity of the reported SRS values in face centered cubic HEAs could be due to the varying fractions and thus contributions of annealing twins in the tested samples.
