This study tried to establish optimal conditions for Sargassum horneri extracts loaded nanostructured lipid carriers(SHE-NLCs).Therefore,we observed various physicochemical analyzes,sugar and phenolic contents,and anti-oxidants while storing the SHE-NLCs for 28 days at different SHE addition amounts(0%-0.5%)and storage temperatures(25 and 65℃).All SHE-NLCs stored at 25℃ showed a small hydrodynamic diameter(20.1-25.4 nm)and high encapsulation efficiency(64.1%-89.3%)for 28 *** the amount of SHE increased,the pH and electrical conductivity of SHE-NLCs significantly decreased and increased,respectively(p<0.05).Also,at 25℃,prevented a sharp decrease in the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of SHE-NLCs as the storage period increased compared to 65℃.SHE 0.25%loaded NLCs can stably maintain the formulation structure for 28 days at room temperature while being an amount sufficiently containing the functionality of SHE.

We read with great interest the recent review of benign epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECTS) and child-hood absence epilepsy (CAE) by Verrotti et al. (1)BECTS and CAE are the most common epilepsy syndromes in childhood and share certain clinical features: similar age at onset, overall good prognosis, and genetic predispo-sition. Several studies have reported the coexistence of the two syndromes, and recently, Verrotti et al. analyzed 19 cases reported to have clinical features of CAE and BECTS. Among the total 19 cases, three cases had fea-tures of both syndromes contemporarily;three cases expe-rienced absence seizures initially followed by BECTS;and the other 13 cases experienced BECTS at onset and had absence seizures later.

Portal invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)occurs in 12.5%-40%of patients diagnosed with cancer and yields poor clinical *** it is a common cause of inoperability,sorafenib was regarded as the standard treatment for HCC in the Barcelona Clinic of Liver Cancer ***,the median survival of the Asian population was only approximately 6 mo,and the tumor response rate was less than moderate(<5%).Various locoregional modalities were performed,including external beam radiotherapy(EBRT),transarterial chemoembolization,hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy,and surgery,alone or in *** them,EBRT is a noninvasive method and can safely treat tumors involving the major *** EBRT has been commonly performed,especially in East Asian countries,where locally invasive HCC is highly *** surgery is not commonly indicated,pioneering studies have demonstrated encouraging results in recent ***,the combination of neo-or adjuvant EBRT and surgery has been recently used and has significantly improved the outcomes of HCC patients,as reported in a few randomized *** systemic modality,a combination of novel immunotherapy and vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor showed results superior to that of sorafenib as a first-line *** clinical trials investigating the combined use of these novel agents,surgery,and EBRT are expected to improve the prognosis of HCC with portal invasion.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease affects approximately one-third of the population worldwide, and its incidence continues to increase with the increasing prevalence of other metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. As non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can progress to liver cirrhosis, its treatment is attracting greater attention. The pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is closely associated with insulin resistance and dyslipidemia, especially hypertriglyceridemia. Increased serum levels of free fatty acid and glucose can cause oxidative stress in the liver and peripheral tissue, leading to ectopic fat accumulation, especially in the liver. In this review, we summarize the mechanism underlying the progression of hepatic steatosis to steatohepatitis and cirrhosis. We also discuss established drugs that are already being used to treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, in addition to newly discovered agents, with respect to their mechanisms of drug action, focusing mainly on hepatic insulin resistance. As well, we review clinical data that demonstrate the efficacy of these drugs, together with improvements in biochemical or histological parameters.

AIM： To characterize the immunogenicity of a hepatitis C virus （HCV） E2 DNA vaccine alone or with a protein vaccine boost in murine and porcine animal models. METHODS： A DNA vaccine expressing a secreted form of HCV E2 protein was constructed and used to vaccinate mice and piglets with or without boosting with a recombinant E2 protein vaccine formulated with CpG ODN and 10% Emulsigen. The immunogenicity of HCV E2 vaccines was analyzed by ELISA for antibody responses, MTT assay for lymphocyte proliferation, ELISPOT for the number of interferon-γ secreting cells, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte assays. RESULTS： Intradermal injection of E2 DNA vaccine induced strong Th1-1ike immune responses in mice. In piglets, E2 DNA vaccine elicited moderate and more balanced immune responses. A DNA vaccine prime and protein boost vaccination strategy induced significantly higher E2-specific antibody levels and shifted the immune response towards Th2-1ike ones in piglets. CONCLUSION： A DNA vaccine expressing a secreted form of HCV E2 protein elicited E2-specific immune responses in mice and piglets. Recombinant E2 protein vaccination following DNA immunization significantly increased the antibody response in piglets. These HCV E2 vaccines may represent promising hepatitis C vaccine candidates for further investigations.

Aquaculture in South Korea largely involves crudely-built plastic fishery houses that consume excessive electricity and produce carbon *** study explores a potential method to make Korean aquaculture more sustainable by suggesting design alternatives that can save energy and *** this end,the authors compare the energy use and indoor environments of three different designs through field *** three designs include(i)a triple-layered plastic screen house(Design 1),(ii)an insulated vault house(Design 2),and(iii)a passive-house design(Design 3),in addition to(iv)a single-layered plastic house(baseline).Our findings indicate that,compared to the baseline,operational electricity was reduced to 57.81% in Design 1,53.92% in Design 2,and 40.59% in Design ***,Designs 2 and 3 were able to mitigate indoor temperature fluctuations in *** 1 showed a relatively unstable temperature distribution during the night but offered better farming conditions than the *** often rose to 100% but did not affect the maintenance of a desirable fish and workplace *** a high concentration of carbon dioxide of up to 3,000 ppm in Designs 1 and 2 was not expected to harm farmers’*** analyses revealed that construction expenses increased to 20.9% in Design 1,135.8% in Design 2,and 73.9% in Design 3 due to large quantities of materials and *** trade-offs with energy saving,the payback period is 7.2 years for Design 1,35.5 years for Design 2,and 17.9 years for Design *** that the lifetime expectancy of Designs 1 and 3 is over two years,the study’s results confirm that Designs 1 and 3 have a comparative advantage in producing sustainable fish-farming houses.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is a‘highly transmissible respiratory pathogen,leading to severe multiorgan ***,knowledge regarding SARS-CoV-2-induced cellular alterations is *** this study,we report that SARSCoV-2 aberrantly elevates mitochondrial bioenergetics and activates the EGFR-mediated cell survival signal cascade during the early stage of viral ***-CoV-2 causes an increase in mitochondrial transmembrane potential via the SARS-CoV-2 RNAnucleocapsid cluster,thereby abnormally promoting mitochondrial elongation and the OXPHOS process,followed by enhancing ATP ***,SARS-CoV-2 activates the EGFR signal cascade and subsequently induces mitochondrial EGFR trafficking,contributing to abnormal OXPHOS process and viral *** EGFR inhibitors remarkably reduce SARS-CoV-2 propagation,among which vandetanib exhibits the highest antiviral *** of SARS-CoV-2-infected cells with vandetanib decreases SARS-CoV-2-induced EGFR trafficking to the mitochondria and restores SARS-CoV-2-induced aberrant elevation in OXPHOS process and ATP generation,thereby resulting in the reduction of SARS-CoV-2 ***,oral administration of vandetanib to SARS-CoV-2-infected hACE2 transgenic mice reduces SARS-CoV-2 propagation in lung tissue and mitigates SARS-CoV-2-induced lung *** also exhibits potent antiviral activity against various SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern,including alpha,beta,delta and omicron,in in vitro cell culture *** together,our findings provide novel insight into SARS-CoV-2-induced alterations in mitochondrial dynamics and EGFR trafficking during the early stage of viral infection and their roles in robust SARS-CoV-2 propagation,suggesting that EGFR is an attractive host target for combating COVID-19.
