Performance investigation of Fe_3O_4 blended poly(vinylidene fluoride) membrane on filtration and benzyl alcohol oxidation:Evaluation of sufficiency for catalytic reactors

Fe_3O_4-PVDF membranes were prepared by blending of magnetic Fe_3O_4 powders with polyvinylidene fluoride to investigate whether those were usable or not in catalytic membrane reactors. Filtration performances and catalytic activity of membranes in microwave conditions were measured in separate processes. Composite Fe_3O_4-PVDF membranes were characterized by TG-DTA, FTIR, XRD, SEM and contact angle *** of α-phases at PVDF was observed with increasing amount of additives from XRD diffraction patterns. Decomposition of polymer fastened due to catalytic effect of Fe_3O_4. Finger-like structures and large number of small pores were observed at the SEM images. Those provided effective transportation of substrate among the active sites of catalyst. At the experiments conducted in batch reactor, 51%, 77%, 66% and 63% benzyl alcohol conversion were recorded for 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% Fe_3O_4-PVDF composite pieces respectively. Catalyst were separated magnetically and reused several times. On the other hand Fe_3O_4 blended PVDF membranes provided improved flux and BSA rejection compared with performance of bare PVDF membrane; 41.6% BSA rejection was obtained with 4% Fe_3O_4-PVDF whereas it was only 6.7% for PVDF. Fe_3O_4-PVDF composites performed high activity for the benzyl alcohol oxidation in batch reactor and also better filtration at filtration cell. These results promise to obtain practical and low cost membrane material for catalytic reactors usable in microwave support to get fast results.

While recycling is a topic of contemporary relevance,there is a scarcity of research on the engineering characteristics of construction and demolition wastes with different levels of grain strength and composition of debris,which impose constraints on their potential for *** study aims to increase the use of recycled aggregates in fillings,addressing a gap in the *** this purpose,large-scale direct shear and California bearing ratio tests were conducted on nine diverse recycled aggregates from different construction *** test outcomes were compared to those obtained from natural aggregates(NA)to draw a meaningful *** impact of the specimens’water content and relative density on the findings was *** demonstrated that the shear strength of recycled aggregates is significantly affected by the compressive strength of the concrete within the recycled ***,increasing the percentage of NA or relative density improved the specimen’s shear *** the other hand,it was determined that the high water content of the crushed bricks reduced the fill’s *** a result of the study,equations were suggested for use in filling design.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coatings were carried out in silicate-based electrolyte embedded with various amounts of carbon nanotube(CNT)additives(0,0.5,1,2 and 4 g/L)on AZ80 magnesium alloy ***,tribological and electrochemical corrosion properties of the coated specimens were *** results demonstrated that the increasing CNT additions into the electrolyte resulted in a gradual increase in the thickness of PEO-coating *** CNT addition to the electrolyte by 0.5 g/L resulted in a slight decrease in the roughness of PEO-coating above which it continually *** resistance of the PEO-coated specimens showed a gradual improvement with increasing CNT-incorporation within the *** electrochemical corrosion tests revealed that the best corrosion resistance was found after the CNT addition into the electrolyte by 0.5 g/L due to the better roughness values,more homogenous coating layers and less pore formation.

Polypropylene （PP）/titanium dioxide （TiO2） nano-composites were prepared by melt compounding with a twin screw extruder. Nanoparticles were modified prior to melt mixing with maleic anhydride grafted styreneethylene-butylene-styrene （SEBS-g-MA） and silane. The composites were injection molded and mechanical tests were applied to obtain tensile strength, elastic modulus and impact strength. Antibacterial efficiency test was applied on the injection molded composite plaques by viable cell counting technique. The results showed that the composites including SEBS-g-MA and silane coated TiO2 gave better mechanical properties than the composites without SEBS-g-MA. Antibacterial efficiency of the composites varied according to the dispersion and the concentration of the particles and it was observed that composites at low content of TiO2 showed higher antibacterial property due to the better photocatalytic activity of the particles during UV exposure.

In this study,the effect of Y addition(0,0.5,1 and 2 wt%)on microstructure and corrosion properties of Mg-6Zn-0.5Zr-1 Nd(wt%)alloy was *** alloys were produced by low-pressure die casting method and extruded at 300℃and 400℃after homogenization treatment at 400℃for 24 *** results showed that the as-cast microstructure of the alloy with no Y addition consisted ofα-Mg,Mg-Zn binary and Mg-Zn-Nd ternary *** increasing Y additions,the average grain size showed a substantial decrease and two kinds of ternary Mg-Zn-Y ternary phases,designated as I-phase(Mg3Zn6Y)and W-phase(Mg3Zn3Y2)were *** treatment resulted in a partial dissolution of second phase *** process gave rise to a remarkable grain refinement due to the DRX *** extruded alloys with no Y addition exhibited poor corrosion resistance due to the strong micro galvanic coupling effect.Y additions up to 1 wt%improved the corrosion resistance due to the formation of finer grains,fine and uniform distribution of second phase particles and more stable oxide film.

The classical molecular dynamics simulations in canonical NVT ensemble conditions are used to investigate the melting transition in different heating rates of Pt-Ag-Au ternary *** order to obtain the initial configurations used in the molecular dynamics simulations,optimizing the chemical ordering of Pt_(13)AgnAu_(42−n)(n=0-42)ternary nanoalloys was performed using the Basin-Hopping algorithm which would not allow changes in the icosahedron *** Gupta many-body potential was used to model interatomic interactions in both molecular dynamics simulations and optimization *** melting transitions of selected Pt-Ag-Au nanoalloys were explored using caloric curves and Lindemann *** have been two identified types of melting mechanisms,one includes sudden jump behavior in the caloric curve and the other is an isomerization while melting *** temperature range in which the isomerization takes place depends on the heating rate value.
