Objective:To unravel the mechanism of anti-inflammatory activity of carvacrol in D-galactosamine(D-GalN)-induced hepatotoxic ***:The mRNA and protein expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α).interleukin-6[IL-6).inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS),cyelooxy genase-2(COX-2) and nuclear faclor kappa-B(NF-κB) were assayed by semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR) and western blot ***:We found that the mRNA and protein expressions of TNF-α. IL-6,iNOS,COX-2 and NF-κB were significanlly up-regulated in D-galactosamine induced hepatotoxic rats and treatment with carvacrol significantly down-regulated the expressions of these genes showing the mechanism behind the anti-inflammatory activity of carvacrol. Conclusions:all above results reveal that the carvacrol well known anti-inflammatory activities in D-galactosamine induced hepatotoxic rats.

X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive X-ray, electrical resistivity and AC-magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed for polycrystalline superconducting samples of type TIBa2Ca2_xSCxCU309_δ （0.0 ≤ x 〈 0.6）. The powder X-ray diffractograms indicate that the tetragonal structure of T1-1223 is not affected by Sc-substitution whereas the lattice parameters are changed. The X-ray analysis indicates that the low-contents of scandium （x） enhance the formation of T1-1223 and reduce the secondary phases. The grain-size determined by SEM decreases as x increases. The electrical resistivity measurements show suppression in the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, and an increase in both the residual resistivity and the superconducting transition width as x increases. The suppression in Tc is attributed to the hole-filling mechanism.

Fishes of the family Carangidae, Decapterus macarellus, Decapterus macrosoma, and Decapterus russelli, were collected from the Jordanian Aqaba coast during 2008-2009 for the determination of their metal concentrations in various organs (muscle, liver, kidney, gonads, gills, and stomach food contents) using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The results showed significant differences in metal concentration between species. The present study indicated significant differences of heavy metal elements among different organs of the same species. The results did not reveal any significant differences between male and female organs, and the only significant difference were found for Pb in Decapterus macorsoma and for Cu in Decapterus russelli. The low metal concentrations found in muscle tissue (in all studied species) has implications for human health.

Biodiesel Production from Oils Extracted from Date Pits

Biodiesel production had received a considerable attention as a green, non-toxic and renewable alternative to petroleum diesel. To avoid using vegetable oils, which are expensive and compete with food, as feedstock, waste oils have been proposed. however, these waste materials contain a large amount of free fatty acids that complicates the production process. In this work, biodiesel production using an alternative feedstock;namely oils from date-pits, has been investigated. These oils have the same favorable features of straight oils, and at the same time are considered waste, since they are extracted from a waste material. The yield of oils extracted using n-hexane in a Soxhlet apparatus was compared to that of oils extracted using methanol-chloroform solvent mixture. The extracted oils were then converted to biodiesel via transesterification with methanol in presence of Novozym𪥣 or Eversa®Transform. The highest oils extraction yield of 11.7%, per dry weight sample, was obtained using Soxhlet extraction apparatus compared to 8.9% using methanol-chloroform mixture. The highest biodiesel production yield was 30% of the oil used, achieved after 6 hours using Novozym𪥣 at 40°C, 5:1 methanol to oil molar ratio and 10wt% enzyme loading. By using a chemical alkaline catalyst, NaOh, at the same conditions, the yield was 27%.

Ragahama Formation comprises a siliciclastic continental deposits followed by marine carbonates, representing prograding alluvial fans from adjacent high hinterlands seaward into lagoons and fringing reef environments. The present work aimed to document the facies development and sedimentology of the Raghama carbonates exposed along the eastern coastal plain of the Red Sea, northwestern Saudi Arabia. Four stratigraphic sections were measured and sampled(D1–D4) and thin sections and major and trace element analyses were prepared and applied for petrographic and geochemical approaches. The carbonates were subdivided into three successive fore-reef, reef-core, and back-reef depositional facies. Sandy stromatolitic boundstone, microbial laminites, dolomitic ooidal grainstone, bioclastic coralline algal wackestone, sandy bioclastic wackestone, and coral boundstones were the reported microfacies types. Petrographic analysis reveals that the studied carbonates were affected by dissolution, dolomitization, and aggrading recrystallization, which affects both the original micrite matrix and grains or acts as fracture and veinlet filling leading to widespread vuggy and moldic porosity. No evidence of physical compaction, suggesting rapid lithification and recrystallization during early diagenesis and prior to substantial burial and intensive flushing by meteoric waters. Most of the original microstructure of corals were leached and destructed. This is indicated by the higher depletion in Sr and Ca levels and increase in Mg,Na, Fe, and Mn levels, especially in section D1, in comparison with the worldwide carbonates.
