Aerodynamic Performance of Three Flapping Wings with Unequal Spacing in Tandem Formation

To better understand the aerodynamic reasons for highly organized movements of flying organisms,the three-flapping wing system in tandem formation was studied numerically in this *** from previous relevant studies on the multiple flapping wings that are equally spaced,this study emphasizes the impact of unequal spacing between individuals on the aerodynamics of each individual wing as well as the whole *** is found that swapping the distance between the first and second wing with the distance between the second wing and the rearmost wing does not affect the overall aerodynamic performance,but significantly changes the distribution of aerodynamic benefits across each *** the whole flapping cycle,three effects are at *** narrow channel effect and the downwash effect can promote and weaken the wing lift,respectively,while the wake capture effect can boost the *** also shows that these effects could be manipulated by changing the spacing between adjacent *** findings provide a novel way for flow control in tandem formation flight and are also inspiring for designing the formation flight of bionic aircraft.

Oligomeric donor with appropriate crystallinity for organic solar cells

Improving the performance of all-small-molecule organic solar cells(ASM-OSCs)largely depends on the design and application of novel donors with appropriate *** molecular conjugation is an effective method for regulating molecular stacking and *** this work,we successfully designed and synthesized two novel acceptor-donor-donor-donor-acceptor(A-D-D-D-A)type oligomeric donors with three dithieno[2,3-d:2′,3′-d′]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene(DTBDT)as the central unit,named as 3DTBDT-Cl and 3DTBDT,depending on with and without chlorine substitution on the thiophene side *** found that the introduction of chlorine atoms makes the blend films display stronger crystallinity but with large-scale phase separation morphology and more defects,which eventually leads to a power conversion efficiency(PCE)of only 10.83%,whereas the blend films based 3DTBDT with appropriate crystallinity achieved 13.74%*** with 3DTBDT-Cl/L8-BO,the 3DTBDT/L8-BO films exhibited a nanoscale bi-continuous interpenetrating network morphology with a smaller domain size and more suitable crystallinity,which guarantees the corresponding devices obtained more efficient exciton dissociation,efficient charge transport,reduced bimolecular recombination,and performed more balanced carrier *** results demonstrated that regulating the crystallinity of oligomeric donors to obtain the desired phase separation morphology in the blend films could facilitate further improving the performance of ASM-OSCs.

Gut microbial interactions based on network construction and bacterial pairwise cultivation

Association networks are widely applied for the prediction of bacterial interactions in studies of human gut ***,the experimental validation of the predicted interactions is challenging due to the complexity of gut microbiomes and the limited number of cultivated *** this study,we addressed this challenge by integrating in vitro time series network(TSN)associations and cocultivation of TSN taxon *** samples were collected and used for cultivation and enrichment of gut microbiome on YCFA agar plates for 13 *** cells were harvested for DNA extraction and metagenomic sequencing.A total of 198 metagenome-assembled genomes(MAGs)were *** dynamics of bacteria growing on the YCFA agar were used to infer microbial association *** experimentally validate the interactions of taxon pairs in networks,we selected 24 and 19 bacterial strains from this study and from the previously established human gut microbial biobank,respectively,for pairwise *** co-culture experiments revealed that most of the interactions between taxa in networks were identified as neutralism(51.67%),followed by commensalism(21.67%),amensalism(18.33%),competition(5%)and exploitation(3.33%).Genome-centric analysis further revealed that the commensal gut bacteria(helpers and beneficiaries)might interact with each other via the exchanges of amino acids with high biosynthetic costs,short-chain fatty acids,and/or *** also validated 12 beneficiaries by adding 16 additives into the basic YCFA medium and found that the growth of 66.7%of these strains was significantly *** approach provides new insights into the gut microbiome complexity and microbial interactions in association *** work highlights that the positive relationships in gut microbial communities tend to be overestimated,and that amino acids,short-chain fatty acids,and vitamins are contributed to the positive relationships.

Data-driven surrogate model for aerodynamic design using separable shape tensor method

In the context of increasing dimensionality of design variables and the complexity of constraints, the efficacy of Surrogate-Based Optimization (SBO) is limited. The traditional linear and nonlinear dimensionality reduction algorithms are mainly to decompose the mathematical matrix composed of design variables or objective functions in various forms, the smoothness of the design space cannot be guaranteed in the process, and additional constraint functions need to be added in the optimization, which increases the calculation cost. This study presents a new parameterization method to improve both problems of SBO. The new parameterization is addressed by decoupling affine transformations (dilation, rotation, shearing, and translation) within the Grassmannian submanifold, which enables a separate representation of the physical information of the airfoil in a highdimensional space. Building upon this, Principal Geodesic Analysis (PGA) is employed to achieve geometric control, compress the design space, reduce the number of design variables, reduce the dimensions of design variables and enhance predictive performance during the surrogate optimization process. For comparison, a dimensionality reduction space is defined using 95% of the energy, and RAE 2822 for transonic conditions are used as demonstrations. This method significantly enhances the optimization efficiency of the surrogate model while effectively enabling geometric constraints. In three-dimensional problems, it enables simultaneous design of planar shapes for various components of the aircraft and high-order perturbation deformations. Optimization was applied to the ONERA M6 wing, achieving a lift-drag ratio of 18.09, representing a 27.25% improvement compared to the baseline configuration. In comparison to conventional surrogate model optimization methods, which only achieved a 17.97% improvement, this approach demonstrates its superiority. Solid particle size characterization by a high-frequency collision response in pneumatic particulate flow

A novel triaxial vibration method is developed for the real-time characterization of the solid particle size distribution(PsD)in pneumatic particulate flow,which is critical for chemical *** this work,the particle-wall collision and friction behaviours were analysed by the time-domain statistical and timefrequency joint methods to narrow the high-frequency response range by the initial experiment of free fall for a single particle,interparticle,and multiple ***,verification experiments of PSD characterization in pneumatic flow were ***,the quantitative triaxial energy response model that considers the particle size,shape,and mass factors were ***,a good agreement of the particle number identification was found between the triaxial vibration energy and mean particle size of 150-550μ***,the performance with the best accuracy was focused on a range of 42-43 kHz in the x-axis and z-axis and 36.8-38.8 kHz in the ***,the individual particle energy was inversely analysed by the triaxial vibration response within the optimized frequency bands,and the PSD was characterized in real-time by a low error rate,that is,5.2% from the XZ-axis direction of sand(42-43 kHz)and 5.6% from the XYZ-axis of glass(30.9-33.9 kHz,46.2-47.2 kHz,38.3-41.3 kHz for each axis response).Therefore,this research complements the existing approaches for PsD characterization in particulate multiphase flow.
