Pulmonary immune cells and inflammatory cytokine dysregulation are associated with mortality of IL-1R1^(-/-) mice infected with influenza virus(H1N1)

Respirovirus infection can cause viral pneumonia and acute lung injury （ALl）. The interleukin-1 （IL-1） family consists of proinflammatory cytokines that play essential roles in regulating immune and inflammatory responses in vivo. IL-1 signaling is associated with protection against respiratory influenza virus infection by mediation of the pulmonary anti-viral immune response and inflammation. We analyzed the infiltration lung immune leukocytes and cytokines that contribute to inflammatory lung pathology and mortality of fatal H1N1 virus-infected IL-1 receptor 1 （IL-1R1） deficient mice. Results showed that early innate immune cells and cytokine/chemokine dysregulation were observed with significantly decreased neutrophil infiltration and IL-6, TNF-α, G-CSF, KC, and MIP-2 cytokine levels in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of infected IL-1R1^-/- mice in comparison with that of wild type infected mice. The adaptive immune response against the H1N1 virus in IL-1 R1^-/- mice was impaired with downregulated anti-viral Thl cell, CD8＋ cell, and antibody functions, which contributes to attenuated viral clearance. Histological analysis revealed reduced lung inflammation during early infection but severe lung pathology in late infection in IL-1R1^-/- mice compared with that in WT infected mice. Moreover, the infected IL-1R1^--/ mice showed markedly reduced neutrophil generation in bone marrow and neutrophil recruitment to the inflamed lung. Together, these results suggest that IL-1 signaling is associated with pulmonary anti-influenza immune response and inflammatory lung injury, particularly via the influence on neutrophil mobilization and inflammatory cytokine/chemokine production.

Experimental and theoretical analysis on the procedure for estimating geo-stresses by the Kaiser effect

Acoustic emission tests of the core specimens retrieved from boreholes at the depth over 1000 m in Hongtoushan Copper Mine were carried out under uniaxial compressive loading, and the numerical test was also done by using the rock failure process analysis （RFPA2D） code, based on the procedure for estimating geo-stresses by the Kaiser effect under uniaxial compression. According to the statistical damage mechanics theory, the Kaiser effect mechanism was analyzed. Based on these analyses, it is indicted that the traditional method of estimating geo-stresses by the Kaiser effect is not appropriate, and the result is usually smaller than the real one. Furthermore, the greater confining compression in the rock mass may result in a larger difference between the Kaiser effect stresses acquired from uniaxial loading in laboratory and the real in-situ stresses.

Absence of superconductivity in Nd0.8Sr0.2NiOx thin films without chemical reduction

The recently reported 9-15 K superconductivity in Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2/SrTi03 heterostructures that were fabricated by a soft-chemical topotactic reduction approach based on precursor Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO3 thin films deposited on SrTiO3 substrates,has excited an immediate surge of research *** explore an alternative physical path instead of chemical reduction to realizing superconductivity in this compound,using pulsed laser deposition,we systematically fabricated 63 Nd0.8Sr0.2NiOx(NSNO)thin films at a wide range of oxygen partial pressures on various oxide *** measurements did not find any signature of superconductivity in all the 63 thin-film *** the oxygen content reducing in the NSNO films by lowering the deposition oxygen pressure,the NSNO films are getting more resistive and finally become ***,we tried to cap a 20-nm-thick amorphous LaAlO3 layer on a Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO3 thin film deposited at a high oxygen pressure of 20 Pa to create oxygen vacancies on its surface and did not succeed in obtaining higher conductivity *** experimental results together with the recent report on the absence of superconductivity in synthesized bulk Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 crystals suggest that the chemical reduction approach could be unique for yielding superconductivity in NSNO/SrTiO3 ***,SrTiO3 substrates could be reduced to generate oxygen vacancies during the chemical reduction process as well,which may thus partially contribute to conductivity.

Noncollinear spintronics and electric-field control:a review

Our world is composed of various materials with different structures,where spin structures have been playing a pivotal role in spintronic devices of the contemporary information *** from conventional collinear spin materials such as collinear ferromagnets and collinear antiferromagnetic ally coupled materials,noncollinear spintronic materials have emerged as hot spots of research attention due to exotic physical *** this review,we first introduce two types of noncollinear spin structures,i.e.,the chiral spin structure that yields real-space Berry phases and the coplanar noncollinear spin structure that could generate momentum-space Berry phases,and then move to relevant novel physical phenomena including topological Hall effect,anomalous Hall effect,multiferroic,Weyl fermions,spin-polarized current and spin Hall effect without spin-orbit coupling in these noncollinear spin ***,we summarize and elaborate the electric-field control of the noncollinear spin structure and related physical effects,which could enable ultralow power spintronic devices in *** the final outlook part,we emphasize the importance and possible routes for experimentally detecting the intriguing theoretically predicted spin-polarized current,verifying the spin Hall effect in the absence of spin-orbit coupling and exploring the anisotropic magnetoresistance and domain-wall-related magnetoresistance effects for noncollinear antiferromagnetic materials.

Recent progress in friction stir welding tools used for steels

Friction stir welding （FSW） technology is being increasingly attractive in welding steels on account of the high-quality weld formation and excellent weld properties. The feasibility of FSW of steels has been convinced for nearly 20 years. However, the application progress for FSW of steels is slower than that of aluminum alloys owing to the high cost and poor usability of tools. The FSW tools are called as the heart of FSW process which is critical for welding quality control and the weld microstructure and properties. The recent progresses in research and development of FSW tools for welding steels have been reviewed. Material selections, geometry parameters, wear behavior and use life of the tools are summarized from the available literatures.

Amino acid derivatives of pyropheophorbide-a ethers as photosensitizer： Synthesis and photodynamic activity

Ten new water-soluble amino acid conjugates of pyropheophorbide-a ethers 4a-4J were synthesized and investigated for their in vitro photodynamic antitumor activity. The results showed that all compounds exhibited higher phototoxicity and lower dark toxicity against three kinds of tumor cell lines than BPD-MA. In particular, the most phototoxic compound 4d and 4j individually showed ICso values of 41 nmol/L and 33 nmol/L against HCT116 cell, which represented 7.8- and 9.7-fold increase of antitumor potency compared to BPD-MA, respectively, suggesting that they were promising photosensitizers for PDT applications because of their strong absorption at long wavelength （λmax 〉 650 nm）, high phototoxicitv, low dark cvtotoxicitv and ~ood water-solubility.

Microstructural Evolution and Softening Behavior of Simulated Heat-Affected Zone in 2219 Aluminum Alloy

The effect of peak temperature （Tp） at 200, 300, 400, 500 and 550 ℃ on the microstructural evolution and softening behavior of the simulated heat-affected zone （HAZ） was studied in the 2219-T87 alloy by electron-backscatter diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, micro-hardness and micro-tensile tests. The results showed that the grain size in the HAZs at 200-500 ℃ was comparable, but the number density of the strengthening precipitates （GP zones/θ′） decreased with increasing Tp. At a Tp of 550 ℃, the grain size significantly decreased and the distribution of the misorientation angles corresponded to the MacKenzie distribution. The GP zones/θ′ phase coarsened and translated into θ phases at Tp values in the range of 200-400 ℃. Increasing the Tp to 500 ℃ and above, some θ′ phases translated into θ phases and others dissolved into the α-Al matrix which led to an increase in the solid solution strengthening. The reduction of the number density of the GP zones/θ′ was responsible for the softening behavior.

High-temperature oxidation behavior of HVOF-sprayed rare earth-modified WC-12Co coating

In this study,the CeO_(2)-modified WC-12 Co coatings were deposited on Q345 steel substrate using high-velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) *** behavior of the modified coatings was analyzed in the range of 450-900℃ for different oxidation time to investigate the effects of oxidation time and temperature on the *** oxidation kinetics and oxidation mechanism of the modified coatings were *** results show that the oxides are mainly composed of WO_(3) and CoWO_(4) within 450-750℃ while the phases are different at 900 ℃.The CeO_(2)-modified coatings have good oxidation resistance when the oxidation temperature is below550℃ and the oxidation mechanism changes due to the occurrence of anomalous oxidation above 650℃.Moreover,the oxidation mass gain curves obey approximately a parabolic law in the temperature range of 450-650℃ at the initial stage but the later oxidation proceeds by a linear *** addition,based on the analysis of micromorphology and component of the prepared coating,the role of rare earth(RE) additives is obtained during high-temperature oxidization.

Analyses toward factors influencing sealing clearance of a metal rubber seal and derivation of a calculation formula

Sealing clearance is a key factor for a metal rubber seal＇s sealability. The expansion coef- ficient and expansion deformation in the radial direction of metal rubber have been obtained through a thermal expansion experiment of metal rubber. The influence of the elastic modulus to the sealing clearance has been analyzed theoretically. By combining the temperature and elasticity factors of metal rubber with the elastic mechanics theory, the calculation formula of the sealing clearance has been derived, and the values of the sealing clearance and the leakage rate in certain working conditions have been calculated. Experimental results are consistent with calculation results in a high degree. The calculation formula of the sealing clearance can explain the influences of the temperature and elastic modulus factors of metal rubber on the sealing clearance. It can pro- vide guidance for the study of sealing mechanism of metal rubber seals.
