Mimicking the complex structure of natural bone remains a challenge for bone tissue *** this study,a novel processing strategy was developed to prepare the bone-like scaffolds that are featured by highly oriented and fully interconnected *** type of biomimetic scaffolds was evolved from solid phase stretching of immiscible polycaprolactone(PCL)/poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)blends with cocontinuous structure and the pore morphology was inherited from selective extraction of water soluble PEO *** pore anisotropy was readily tuned by varying the stretching strain without loss of *** promotion in preosteoblast proliferation,alkaline phosphatase activity and osteogenic gene expression was observed in the oriented porous scaffolds compared to the isotropic porous *** oriented architecture provided a topographical cue for aligned growth of preosteoblasts,which activated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling *** proposed strategy enriches the toolbox for the scaffold design and fabrication for bone tissue engineering.

A sodium modification–direct reduction coupled process was proposed for the simultaneous extraction of V and Fe from vanadium- bearing titanomagnetite. The sodium oxidation of vanadium oxides to water-soluble sodium vanadate and the transformation of iron oxides to metallic iron were accomplished in a single-step high-temperature process. The increase in roasting temperature favors the reduction of iron oxides but disfavors the oxidation of vanadium oxides. The recoveries of vanadium, iron, and titanium reached 84.52%, 89.37%, and 95.59%, respectively. Moreover, the acid decomposition efficiency of titanium slag reached 96.45%. Compared with traditional processes, the novel process provides several advantages, including a shorter flow, a lower energy consumption, and a higher utilization efficiency of vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite resources. © 2017, University of Science and Technology Beijing and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The spread of diseases caused by bacterial adhesion and immobilization in public places constitutes a serious threat to public *** of bacteria spread by the construction of an antibacterial surface takes precedence over post-infection ***,we demonstrate an effective antibacterial surface with strong wear resistance by constructing cationic engineered nanodiamonds(C-NDs).The C-NDs with positive surface potentials interact effectively with bacteria through electrostatic interactions,where the C-NDs act on the phospholipid bilayer and lead to bacterial membrane collapse and rupture through hydrogen bonding and residual surface oxygen-containing reactive *** this case,bactericidal rate of 99.99%and bacterial biofilm inhibition rate of more than 80%can be achieved with the C-NDs concentration of 1 mg/*** addition,the C-NDs show outstanding antibacterial stability,retaining over 87%of the antibacterial effect after stimulation by adverse environments of heat,acid,and external ***,an antibacterial surface with high wear resistance obtained by integrating C-NDs with commercial plastics has been *** antibacterial surface with a mass fraction of 1 wt.%C-NDs improved abrasion resistance by 3981 times,with 99%killing of adherent *** work provides an effective strategy for highly efficient antibacterial wear-resistant surface,showing great practical applications in public health environments.

Interleukin-11 （IL-11） is a cytokine of IL-6 family that mediates signal transduction through a common signal transduction molecule glycoprotein 130gp130. JAK/STAT, Ras/Erk and PI3K-mediated pathways are involved in the IL-11 signaling pathway. IL-11 has traditionally been thought to be an anti-inflammatory cytokine that has a complex role in the body＇s immune response. Simultaneously, the activation of STAT3 by IL-11 provides a functional link to support the survival and growth of cancer cells. There is also evidence that IL-11 may play a role in promoting liver cancer through wound healing mechanisms. In recent years, studies have found that IL-11 could stimulate the development of tumors via promoting the proliferation and inhibiting the apoptosis of cancer cells, mediating the tolerance of cancer cells to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and mediating the growth and survival of early microtransferred colonies. Sustained activation of JAK-STAT and PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, up-regulating the expression of IL-11 receptor and hypoxia microenvironment mediated by HIF-1a and AP-1 transcription factors are involved in the progression of cancer. Therefore, targeted therapies that treat the over expression of IL-11 or IL-11 receptors and IL-11 signaling pathway such as the JAK 1/2 and STAT3 inhibitor in cancer patients has the potential to completely relieve the tumor, which may provide us a new idea for the treatment of cancer.

The experimental realization of Rydberg dressing technology in ultracold atomic systems provides another superior platform for studying novel states of matter and macroscopic quantum *** this work,based on the mean-field theory,we have investigated the ground-state phases of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate with Rydberg interaction and confined in a toroidal *** effects of the Rydberg interaction and external potential,especially the Rydberg blockade radius,on the ground-state structure of such a system have been investigated in full parameter *** results show that the Rydberg blockade radius,which can be regarded as another controllable parameter,can be used to obtain a variety of ground-state *** interestingly,it is found that for weak Rydberg interactions,the Rydberg blockade radius breaks the spontaneous rotational symmetry of the system,leading to the formation of a discrete unit cell *** strongly interacting cases,it can be used to realize different orders of discrete rotational symmetry breaking.

With the rapid development of large megawatt wind turbines,the operation environment of wind turbine towers(WTTs)has become increasingly *** particular,seismic excitation can create a resonance response and cause excessive vibration of the *** investigate the vibration attenuation performance of the WTT under seismic excitations,a novel passive vibration control device,called a prestressed tuned mass damper(PS-TMD),is presented in this ***,a mathematical model is established based on structural dynamics under seismic ***,the mathematical analytical expression of the dynamic coefficient is deduced,and the parameter design method is obtained by system tuning ***,based on a theoretical analysis and parameter design,the numerical results showed that the PS-TMD was able to effectively mitigate the resonance under the harmonic basal ***,the time-history analysis method is used to verify the effectiveness of the traditional pendulum tuned mass damper(PTMD)and the novel PS-TMD device,and the results indicate that the vibration attenuation performance of the PS-TMD is better than the *** addition,the PS-TMD avoids the nonlinear effect due to the large oscillation angle,and has the potential to dissipate hysteretic energy under seismic excitation.

Spontaneous hemoperitoneum(SP) is defined as the presence of blood within the peritoneal cavity that is unrelated to *** there is a vast array of etiologies for SP,primary hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic adenoma are considered to be the most common *** metastatic tumor associated with spontaneous rupture is *** from hepatic metastatic trophoblastic tumor may initially present with a sudden onset of abdominal *** computed tomography(CT) plays an important role in establishing the diagnosis of SP,indicating its origin and etiology,and determining subsequent ***,we report an uncommon case of hemoperitoneum from spontaneous rupture of a hepatic metastatic trophoblastic tumor in a young female ***,the contrast-enhanced CT findings demonstrated hypervascular hepatic masses with persistent enhancement at all phases,which were completely different from the common appearances of hepatic *** SP resulting from hepatic metastatic tumors,surgical intervention is still the predominant therapeutic method,but the prognosis is very poor.

AIM:To explore the therapeutic effect and main molecular mechanisms of acteoside in a glaucoma model in DBA/2J ***:Proteomics was used to compare the differentially expressed proteins of C57 and DBA/2J *** acteoside administration in DBA/2J mice,anterior segment observation,intraocular pressure(IOP)monitoring,electrophysiology examination,and hematoxylin and eosin staining were used to analyze any potential ***(IHC)assays were used to verify the proteomics ***,retinal ganglion cell 5(RGC5)cell proliferation was assessed with cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)*** domain-containing protein 4(Sertad4)mRNA and protein expression levels were measured by qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis,***:Proteomics analysis suggested that Sertad4 was the most significantly differentially expressed *** with the saline group,the acteoside treatment group showed decreased IOP,improved N1-P1 wave amplitudes,thicker retina,and larger numbers of cells in the ganglion cell layer(GCL).The IHC results showed that Sertad4 expression levels in DBA/2J mice treated with acteoside were significantly lower than in the saline *** treatment could improve RGC5 cell survival and reduce the Sertad4 mRNA and protein expression levels after glutamate ***:Sertad4 is differentially expressed in DBA/2J *** can protect RGCs from damage,possibly through the downregulation of Sertad4,and has a potential use in glaucoma treatment.

Lithiumsulfur batteries have been intensively studied due to their high theoretical energy density and abundant sulfur resources. However, their commercial application is hindered by the low redox kinetics and high sulfur losses. In principle, in the design of cathodes and separators, the adsorption toward lithium-polysulfides should be enhanced and the conversion of soluble high-order lithium-polysulfides should be catalyzed. Herein, a KV_(3)O_(8)·0.75H_(2)O separator is designed as an effective lithium-polysulfides mediator in lithiumsulfur batteries. The intercalated K+ would enlarge the interlayer spacing of vanadium oxides, preventing the collapse of the layer structure and improving the electrical/ion conductivity of the interface. Moreover, the KV_(3)O_(8)·0.75H_(2)O modified separator possess a prior adsorption and high redox kinetics toward lithium-polysulfides due to the enhanced diffusion kinetics, which guarantees the high-rate capability and efficient utilization of sulfur. As a result, lithiumsulfur batteries exhibit a high capacity of 1362 mAh·g^(-1) and a long lifespan with a low capacity loss of 0.073% per cycle. This work may provide an alternative way to establish a functional separator to balance the adsorption and conversion of polysulfides during the redox back and forth.
