Preliminary assessment on the hindcast skill of the Arctic Oscillation with decadal experiment by the BCC_CSM1.1 climate model

The prediction skill of Arctic Oscillation (AO) in the decadal experiments with the Beijing Climate Center Climate System Model version 1.1 (BCC_CSM1.1) is assessed. As compared with the observations and historical experiments, the contribution of initialization for climate model to predict the seasonal scale AO and its interannual variations is estimated. Results show that the spatial correlation coefficient of AO mode simulated by the decadal experiment is higher than that in the historical experiment. The two groups of experiments reasonably reproduce the characteristics that AO indices are the strongest in winter and the weakest in summer. Compared with historical experiments, the correlation coefficient of the monthly and winter AO indices are higher in the decadal experiments. In particular, the correlation coefficient of monthly AO index between decadal hindcast and observation reached 0.1 significant level. Furthermore, the periodicity of the monthly and spring AO indices are achieved only in the decadal experiments. Therefore, the initial state of model is initialized by using sea temperature data may help to improve the prediction skill of AO in the decadal prediction experiments to some extent.

Asian summer monsoon responses to the change of land‒sea thermodynamic contrast in a warming climate:CMIP6 projections

It is of practical significance to use the updated Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)models to study the impact of changes in land‒sea thermodynamic contrast(TC)on the Asian summer monsoon under different scenarios and to compare the similarities and differences of the impact mechanisms between different monsoon *** this study,we investigated future changes of the Asian summer monsoon under four Shared Socioeconomic Pathway(SSP)scenarios using 19 CMIP6 *** intensity of the South Asian summer monsoon(SASM)is projected to decrease by 2.6%,6.3%,10.1%,and 11.1%,while the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)intensity is projected to increase by 4.6%,7.9%,7.4%,and 9.8%until the end of the 21st century for SSP126,SSP245,SSP370,and SSP585 scenarios,***,summer precipitation in Asia is projected to increase remarkably in 2015-2099 under all four *** inconsistent warming trends over the Tibetan Plateau(TP),Northwest Pacific,and tropical Indian Ocean would greatly impact the monsoon *** upper-troposphere warming trend over the surrounding oceans is remarkably greater than that over the TP,while the near-surface warming trend over the surrounding oceans is smaller than that over the *** decrease of upper-troposphere TC between the TP and tropical Indian Ocean results in a weakening of the SASM *** enhancement of the lower-troposphere TC between the TP and Northwest Pacific would strengthen the EASM *** budget analysis shows that the water-vapor would increase in the future,which would thermodynamically enhance summer precipitation through the anomalous vertical moisture transport associated with mean *** strengthening of the meridional circulation of the EASM would increase monsoon precipitation,while the weakening of zonal circulation of the SASM would dynamically reduce South Asian summer precipitation.

Update on a tumor-associated NADH oxidase in gastric cancer cell growth

Gastric cancer is one of the most common human malignancies, and its prevalence has been shown to be well-correlated with cancer-related deaths worldwide. Regrettably, the poor prognosis of this disease is mainly due to its late diagnosis at advanced stages after the cancer has already metastasized. Recent research has emphasized the identification of cancer biomarkers in the hope of diagnosing cancer early and designing targeted therapies to reverse cancer progression. One member of a family of growth-related nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH or hydroquinone) oxidases is tumor-associated NADH oxidase(t NOX; ENOX2). Unlike its counterpart CNOX(ENOX1), identified in normal rat liver plasma membranes and shown to be stimulated by growth factors and hormones, t NOX activity purified from rat hepatoma cells is constitutively active. Its activity is detectable in the sera of cancer patients but not in those of healthy volunteers, suggesting its clinical relevance. Interestingly, t NOX expression was shown to be present in an array of cancer cell lines. More importantly, inhibition of t NOX was well correlated with reduced cancer cell growth and induction of apoptosis. RNA interference targeting t NOX expression in cancer cells effectively restored non-cancerous phenotypes, further supporting the vital role of t NOX in cancer cells. Here, we review the regulatory role of t NOX in gastric cancer cell growth.

Retrospective Analysis of Radiofrequency Ablation in Patients with Small Solitary Hepatocellular Carcinoma:Survival Outcomes and Development of a Machine Learning Prognostic Model

Missed diagnosis of early gastric cancer or high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia

AIM: To investigate the causes of missed diagnosis of early gastric cancer (EGC) or high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGIN) in Chongqing, China. METHODS: The present study summarizes 103 cases of EGC/HGIN detected by esophagogastroduodenos-copy (EGD) and pathological analysis from January 2010 to December 2011. Dimethyl silicone oil was administrated orally 15 min before the EGD procedures. The stomach was cleaned by repeated washing with saline when the gastroscope entered the stomach cavity. Suspected EGC lesions were subject to conventional biopsy sampling and pathological examinations. The correlation between lesion locations, endoscopic morphology of cancerous sites, training level of the examiners, pathological biopsies, and missed diagnosis was analyzed. RESULTS: Twenty-three cases were missed among the 103 cases (22.23%) of EGC/HGIN. The rate of missed EGC in the gastroesophageal junction (8/19, 42.1%) was significantly higher than at other sites (15/84, 17.86%) (χ2 = 5.253, P = 0.022). In contrast, the rate of missed EGC in the lower stomach body (2/14, 14.29%) was lower than at other sites (21/89,23.6%), but there were no significant differences (χ2 = 0.289, P = 0.591). The rate of missed EGC in the gastric antrum (5/33, 15.15%) was lower than at other sites (18/70, 25.71%), but there were no significant differences (χ2 = 1.443, P = 0.230). Endoscopists from less prestigious hospitals were more prone to not diagnosing EGC than those from more prestigious hospitals (χ2 = 4.261, P = 0.039). When the number of biopsies was 4 biopsies (3/23, 13.04%) (P < 0.001). In addition, there was no significant difference in the rate of missed diagnosis in patients with 1-3 biopsy specimens (χ2 = 0.141, P = 0.932).
