Stabilization/solidification mechanisms of tin tailings and fuming slag-based geopolymers for different heavy metals

Tin mine tailings(TMT)and fuming slag(FS)contain many heavy metals(As,Cr,Cu,Zn and Mn)that cause severe pollution to the environment.Herein,geopolymers were prepared using TMT,FS and flue gas desulfurization gypsum(FGDG)to immobilize heavy metals,and their compressive strength and heavy metal leaching toxicity were investigated.It was first determined that T4F5(TMT:FS=4:5)sample exhibited the highest compressive strength(7.83 MPa).T4F5 achieved 95%immobilization efficiency for As and Cr,and nearly 100%for Cu,Zn and Mn,showing good immobilization performance.A series of characterization analyses showed that heavy metal cations can balance the charge in the geopolymer and replace Al in the geopolymer structure to form covalent bonds.In addition,about 2%–20%of heavy metal Fe was immobilized in hydration products,heavy metal hydroxides and non-bridging Si–O and Al–O coordination with silica-aluminate matrices.AsO33−was oxidized into AsO43−,which may form Ca–As or Fe–As precipitates.Cr2O72−was converted to CrO42−under alkaline environment and then combined with OH−to form Cr(OH)3 precipitates.Mn2+may react directly with dissolved silicate to form Mn2SiO4 and also form Mn(OH)2 precipitates.The unstable Mn(OH)2 can be further oxidized to MnO2.The heavy metal cations were immobilized in the silicoaluminate lattice,while the anions tended to form insoluble precipitates.These results may benefit the industry and government for better handling of TMT,FS and solid wastes containing the abovementioned five heavy metals.

As one locus of extraordinary collocations,poeticized language features expressions that depart from the physical reality,involving the subjective transformation of objects in the mental space.Increasing subjectivity renders extraordinary collocations resistant to rational readings,resulting in two types of constructions:“innovative”collocations and“self-created”collocations.The meaning construction in the former is easier to achieve than in the latter;the former entails the“rational evaluation”and the latter the“speculative evaluation”processes in metalanguage.With its rule-breaking defiance caused by meaning obscurity compensated for by rich implied meaning and positive aesthetic feedback,the“self-created”collocations are regarded as poetic and re-accepted by the system.Therefore,the so-termed“poeticness”is derived from the positive feedback during the speculative evaluation process and constitutes the main substance of aesthetic interpretation.

The innate immune pathway is receiving increasing attention in cancer therapy.This pathway is ubiquitous across various cell types,not only in innate immune cells but also in adaptive immune cells,tumor cells,and stromal cells.Agonists targeting the innate immune pathway have shown profound changes in the tumor microenvironment(TME)and improved tumor prognosis in preclinical studies.However,to date,the clinical success of drugs targeting the innate immune pathway remains limited.Interestingly,recent studies have shown that activation of the innate immune pathway can paradoxically promote tumor progression.The uncertainty surrounding the therapeutic effectiveness of targeted drugs for the innate immune pathway is a critical issue that needs immediate investigation.In this review,we observe that the role of the innate immune pathway demonstrates heterogeneity,linked to the tumor development stage,pathway status,and specific cell types.We propose that within the TME,the innate immune pathway exhibits multidimensional diversity.This diversity is fundamentally rooted in cellular heterogeneity and is manifested as a variety of signaling networks.The pro-tumor effect of innate immune pathway activation essentially reflects the suppression of classical pathways and the activation of potential pro-tumor alternative pathways.Refining our understanding of the tumor's innate immune pathway network and employing appropriate targeting strategies can enhance our ability to harness the anti-tumor potential of the innate immune pathway and ultimately bridge the gap from preclinical to clinicalapplication.

Aiming at the robustness issue in high-speed trains(HSTs)operation control,this article proposes a model-free adaptive control(MFAC)scheme to suppress disturbance.Firstly,the dynamic linearization data model of train system under the action of measurement disturbance is given,and the Kalman filter(KF)based on this model is derived under the minimum variance estimation criterion.Then,according to the KF,an anti-interference MFAC scheme is designed.This scheme only needs the input and output data of the controlled system to realize the MFAC of the train under strong disturbance.Finally,the simulation experiment of CRH380A HSTs is carried out and compared with the traditional MFAC and the MFAC with attenuation factor.The proposed control algorithm can effectively suppress the measurement disturbance,and obtain smaller tracking error and larger signal to noise ratio with better applicability.

Cobalt sulphides attract much attention as anode materials for Li-ion batteries(LIBs).However,its poor conductivity,low initial column efficiency and large volume changes during cycling have hindered its further development.Herein,novel interlaced CoS nanosheets were firstly prepared on Carbon Fiber Cloth(CFC)by two hydrothermal reactions followed with carbon coating via carbonizing dopamine(CoS NS@C/CFC).As a freestanding anode,the nanosheet structure of CoS not only accommodates the volume variation,but also provides a large interface area to proceed the charge transfer reaction.In addition,CFC works as both a three-dimensional skeleton and an active substance which can further improve the areal capacity of the resulting electrode.Furthermore,the coated carbon combined with the CFC work as a 3D conductive network to facilitate the electron conduction.The obtained CoS NS@C/CFC,and the contrast sample prepared with the same procedure but without carbon coating(CoS NS/CFC),are characterized with XRD,SEM,TEM,XPS and electrochemical measurements.The results show that the CoS NS@C/CFC possesses much improved electrochemical performance due to the synergistic effect of nanosheet CoS,the coated carbon and the CFC substrate,exhibiting high initial columbic efficiency(~87%),high areal capacity(2.5 at 0.15 mA cm−2),excellent rate performance(1.6 at 2.73 mA cm−2)and improved cycle stability(87.5%capacity retention after 300 cycles).This work may provide a new route to explore freestanding anodes with high areal specific capacity for LIBs.

Poly(diethyl fumarate-co-methoxyethyl acrylate-co-vinyl chloroacetate)(PDEFMV),a novel bio-based elastomer with a saturated structure,was synthesized via redox emulsion polymerization.The glass-transition temperatures of PDEFMV,adjusted through the variation of the diethyl fumarate-to-methoxyethyl acrylate feeding ratio,ranged from-36.1 to-14.8 ℃.The number-average molecular weights of PDEFMV ranged from 384,000 to 46,000 g/mol.In designing the molecular structure,vinyl chloroacetate was used to provide active sites for subsequent vulcanization and crosslinking.The active chlorine groups within the PDEFMV chain reacted with the crosslinking agent trithiocyanuric acid under high temperature and pressure to form a nonsulfur crosslinked three-dimensional network structure.To achieve the desired properties,carbon black(CB,N330) was incorporated to reinforce PDEFMV,leading to the formation of PDEFMV/CB composites.A comprehensive study was conducted on the high-temperature oil resistance of PDEFMV/CB composites.Following immersion in IRM903 oil at temperatures of 150 and 200 ℃ for 72 h,the mass and volume changes in PDEFMV/CB were lower than those observed in commercially available acrylate rubber(AR)/CB,indicating that PDEFMV exhibited superior oil resistance.Furthermore,the aging characteristics and mechanisms of oil resistance in the PDEFMV/CB and AR/CB composites were investigated at different temperatures(150,200,and 250 ℃).The results provide insights into the operational temperature ranges suitable for PDEFMV/CB and offer valuable guidance for potential industrial applications.

Developing precise extracellular vesicles(EVs)labelling techniques with minimal disturbance is of great importance to the follow-up EVs detection and analysis.However,currently available methods such as using probes to conjugate phospholipids or membrane proteins have certain limitations due to EV steric hindrance,dye aggregation,etc.Here,we present a microfluidic platform to enhance EVs’labelling efficiency and improve their detection.This platform provides excellent sample throughput and high-efficiency EV labelling at lower label concentrations with an optimized flowing rate.Flow cytometry analysis(FCM)and cellular uptake results show that EV labelling by utilizing this platform possesses the merits of a higher labelling efficiency with 64.1%relative improvement than conventional co-incubation method and a lower background noise.Moreover,this technique maintains EVs’size,morphology and biological activities.After the recipient cells uptake the EVs treated by the microfluidic platform,the spatial and temporal distribution of EVs in the cells are clearly observed.These results demonstrate that our method holds great potential in efficient labelling of EVs,which is essential to subsequent EV quantification and analysis.

COF-based membranes for liquid phase separation:Preparation,mechanism and perspective

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs)are a new kind of crystalline porous materials composed of organic molecules connected by covalent bonds,processes the characteristics of low density,large specific surface area,adjustable pore size and structure,and easy to functionalize,which have been widely used in the field of membrane separation technology.Recently,there are more and more researches focusing on the preparation methods,separation application,and mechanism of COF membranes,which need to be further summarized and compared.In this review,we primarily summarized several conventional preparation methods,such as two-phase interfacial polymerization,in-situ growth on substrate,unidirectional diffusion method,layer-by-layer assembly method,mixed matrix membranes,and so on.The advantages and disadvantages of each method are briefly summarized.The application potential of COF membrane in liquid separation are introduced from four aspects:dyeing wastewater treatment,heavy metal removal,seawater desalination and oil-water separation.Then,the mechanisms including pore structure,hydrophilic/hydrophobic,electrostatic repulsion/attraction and Donnan effect are introduced.For the efficient removal of different kind of pollutions,researchers can select different ligands to construct membranes with specific pore size,hydrophily,salt or organic rejection ability and functional group.The ideas for the design and preparation of COF membranes are introduced.Finally,the future direction and challenges of the next generation of COF membranes in the field of separation are prospected.
