Rho kinase:A new target for treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury

Rho kinase inhibitor fasudil hydrochloride has been shown to reduce cerebral vasospasm, to inhibit inflammation and apoptosis and to promote the recovery of neurological function. However, the effect of fasudil hydrochloride on claudin-5 protein expression has not been reported after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. Therefore, this study sought to explore the effects of fasudil hydrochloride on blood-brain barrier permeability, growth-associated protein-43 and claudin-5 protein expression, and to further understand the neuroprotective effect of fasudil hydrochloride. A focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion model was established using the intraluminal suture technique. Fasudil hydrochloride （15 mg/kg） was intraperitoneally injected once a day. Neurological deficit was evaluated using Longa＇s method. Changes in permeability of blood-brain barrier were measured using Evans blue. Changes in RhoA, growth-associated protein-43 and claudin-5 protein expression were detected using immunohistochemistry and western blotting. Results revealed that fasudil hydrochloride noticeably contributed to the recovery of neurological function, improved the function of blood-brain barrier, inhibited RhoA protein expression, and upregulated growth-associated protein-43 and claudin-5 protein expression following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. Results indicated that Rho kinase exhibits a certain effect on neurovascular damage following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. Intervention targeted Rho kinase might be a new therapeutic target in the treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion.

Theoretical Studies on Dielectric Breakdown Strength Increasing Mechanism of SF6 and Its Potential Alternative Gases

A theoretical investigation on the dielectric insulation mechanism of sulfur hexafluoride（SF6） and its potential alternative gases at the atomic and molecular levels was made. The electronic structures of the molecules of them were calculated at the B3LYP/6-31 11＋G（d,p） level. The HOMO-LUMO energy gaps, ionization potentials, electron affinities, and dipole moments of the studied molecules at the ground state were obtained. The 11 isomerization reactions, with the harmonic vibration frequencies of the equilibrium geometries and the minimum energy path by the intrinsic reaction coordinate theory, were also obtained at the same level. The results show that the insulation gas, with the larger HOMO-LUMO energy gap, the higher ionization potential and the stronger electron affinity, can increase the dielectric breakdown strength efficiently, which is in good agreement with the available experimental finding. We suggested that the molecule with isomerization reaction occurring can dissipate the energy of hot electrons availably, which is favorable to the dielectric breakdown strength increasing for the SF6 potential alternative gas.

Effects of Community Community Communication Technology(ICT) Usage on Community Satisfaction: Case Study in Nanjing, China

Future or smart community, which mainly refers to the development of community information and communication technology(ICT) platforms or devices, has received considerable attention from urban governments and scholars. However, only a few studies have been conducted to test the actual effects of using these community ICT platforms or devices on the community satisfaction of residents. Therefore, the present study conducts a survey in 40 communities in Nanjing, China and uses a mixed linear regression model to determine the relationship between community ICT usage and community satisfaction. Results indicate that residents with high-level community ICT usage are more satisfied with their community than those with low-level community ICT usage. Moreover, evident differences are observed regarding the influence of new commodity, old commodity and affordable housing communities in Nanjing. These findings are meaningful for the construction and development of future communities.

A chlorinated polymer promoted analogue co-donors for efficient ternary all-polymer solar cells

The efficient ternary all-polymer solar cells(PSCs) are designed and fabricated, using a polymer acceptor of NDP-V-C7 and analogue co-donors containing a chlorinated polymer PBCl T and classical PTB7-Th. PBCl T and PTB7-Th possess very similar chemical structure and matched energy levels to form the cascade of the co-donors. Meanwhile, benefiting from those analogous polymer structures, there is little influence of the morphology in blend film compared to their pristine polymer films. The binary PBCl T:NDP-V-C7 devices exhibit a high open-circuit voltage(V_(oc)) due to the deep HOMO level of PBCl T. The V_(oc)of all-PSCs could be finely manipulated by adjusting the content of PBCl T in blend film. The ternary all-PSCs have the more balanced charge mobility and prolonged carrier lifetime compared to the binary devices. The PBCl T also help improve the miscibility of ternary blend and suppress crystallization in films, bringing about favorable morphology with appropriate orientation and surface roughness in blend film. With the optimal processing, the champion ternary all-PSCs obtain a high PCE of 9.03%, which is about 10% enhancement compared to that of binary device. The results indicate that the ternary approach using analogue co-donors is a practical method to enhance the performance of all-PSCs.

Baosteel emission control significantly benefited air quality in Shanghai

As the largest iron and steel producer in China, a part of Baosteel moved out of Shanghai deserves close attention due to its environmental impact. To understand the effect of Baosteel emission control on air quality in Shanghai, daily PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2 and CO were measured from 2010 to 2016. Concentrations of pollutants in Baoshan District presented a decreased trend during 2010-2016, with a reduction rate of 28.6% for PM10, 67.3% for SO2, 8.6% for NO2 and 42.0% for CO. However, fine particle pollution in Baoshan District during 2012-2016 seems to become more prominent, with PM2.5 concentration of 47 ± 28, 45 ± 33, 38 ± 24, 54 ± 41 and 51 ± 34 μg/m^3, respectively, indicating a slight increase of 8.5% in PM2.5. Concentrations of PM10 and CO decreased by 12.5% and 33.8% in the second half year in 2016 （compared with that in 2015） probably due to closure of blast furnace of Baosteel. Baosteel was identified as the largest pollution source in Baoshan District. Emission from Baosteel accounted for 58.0% of SO2, 43.6% of NO2 and 79.3% of dust in total emission from Baoshan District during 2010-2015. Meanwhile, pollutant emission and coal consumption from Baosteel decreased by 52.0% for SO2, 40.1% for NO2, 15.7% for dust and 22% for coal consumption. Energy consumption in Baoshan District reduced by 31% from 2011 to 2015. Air quality improvement in Shanghai was attributed to local emission reduction, together with regional air quality improvement.

Evolution in physiochemical and cloud condensation nuclei activation properties of crop residue burning particles during photochemical aging

As a main form of biomass burning in agricultural countries, crop residue burning is a significant source of atmospheric fine particles. In this study, the aging of particles emitted from the burning of four major crop residues in China was investigated in a smog *** particle size distribution, chemical composition and cloud condensation nuclei(CCN)activity were simultaneously measured. The properties of crop residue burning particles varied substantially among different fuel types. During aging, the particle size and mass concentration increased substantially, suggesting condensational growth by formation of secondary aerosols. The particle composition was dominated by organics. Aging resulted in considerable enhancement of organics and inorganics, with enhancement ratios of 1.24–1.44 and 1.33–1.76 respectively, as well as a continuous increase in the oxidation level of organics. Elevated CCN activity was observed during aging, with the hygroscopicity parameter κ varying from 0.16 to 0.34 for fresh particles and 0.19 to 0.40 for aged *** on the volume mixing rule, the hygroscopicity parameter of organic components(κorg) was derived. κorgexhibited an increasing tendency with aging, which was generally consistent with the tendency of the O:C ratio, indicating that the oxidation level was related to the hygroscopicity and CCN activity of organic aerosols from crop residue burning. Our results indicated that photochemical aging could significantly impact the CCN activation of crop burning aerosols, not only by the production of secondary aerosols, but also by enhancing the hygroscopicity of organic components, thereby contributing to the aerosol indirect climate forcing.
