OBJECTIVE: The a.m of this study wa. to investiga.e the messenger ribonucleic a.id expression of leptin (L-mRNa. a.d the leptin receptor (OB-RmRNa. in subcuta.eous fa. tissue a.d to determine their rela.ionship with leptin a.d testosterone a.d steroid serum levels over the course of the menstrua. cycle (MC), in obese (OBW) a.d non-obese women (NOW). DESIGN: Observa.iona. study investiga.ing mRNa.tra.script expression of leptin a.d the leptin receptor from huma. subcuta.eous fa. specimens, a. well a. leptin serum levels, both in rela.ion to the testosterone a.d sex hormones during the MC in obese a.d non-obese women. METHODS: Nineteen women, thirteen with a.body ma.s index (BMI) > 25 Kg/m2 a.d 6 with BMI 2 were included. RT-PCR wa. used to detect L-mRNa.tra.scripts of leptin a.d its receptor in sa.ples from 28 fa. biopsies ta.en from seven volunteers (20 from OW a.d 8 from NOW). The serum concentra.ions of leptin a.d steroid hormones were mea.ured throughout the MC using ra.ioinmuno a.a.ysis. RESULTS: The percenta.es of women expressing leptin L-mRNa.during the pha.es of the MC were: ea.ly follicula. (EF), 14.3%;la.e follicula. (LF), 28.6%;ea.ly lutea. (EL), 14.3%;a.d la.e lutea. (LL), 42.9%. The percenta.es of OB-RmRNa.were: EF, 71.4%;LF, 14.3%;EL, 28.6%;a.d LL, 71.4%. Leptin serum levels were directly rela.ed to BMI (p a.d testosterone (p a.d indirectly to SHBG (p a.expression a.d its receptor in subcuta.eous huma. tissue a.e regula.ed throughout the MC in a.periodic ma.ner. The physiologica. role of testosterone in regula.ion of expression L-mRNa.a.d OB-RmRNa.during the secretory pha.e of the MC in obese women requires further investiga.ion.

We performed a.Fa.t Fourier Tra.sform (FFT) on this da.a.a.d then compa.ed the signa. a.ong the fa.ting, medica.ed, a.d postpra.dia. conditions using the media. of the a.ea.under the curve, the rela.ive a.ea.under the curve a.d the ma.n pea. ***: The media. of the a.ea.under the curve of the frequency ra.ge in the region between 2-8 cycles per minute (cpm) decrea.ed from 4.7 cpm in the fa.ting condition to 4.0 cpm in the medica.ed sta.e (t=3.32, P=0.004). This concurred with the decrea.e seen in the rela.ive a.ea.under the FFT curve in the region from 4 to 8 cpm from 38.3% to 26.6% (t=2.81, P=0.012) a.d the increa.e in a.ea.in the region from 2 to 4 cpm from 22.4% to 27.7%, respectively (t=-2.5, P=0.022). Fina.ly the ma.n pea. position a.so decrea.ed in the region from 2 to 8 cpm. Ma.n pea. a.tivity in the fa.ting sta.e wa. 4.72 cpm a.d declined to 3.45 cpm in the medica.ed sta.e (t=2.47, P=0.025). There wa. a.decrea.e from the fa.ting sta.e to the postpra.dia. sta.e a. 3.02 cpm (t=4.0, P=0.0013). CONCLUSION: Short-term electrica. bio-impeda.ce ca. a.sess ga.tric motility cha.ges in individua.s experiencing ga.tric stress by a.a.yzing the a.ea.media.s a.d rela.ive a.ea. under the FFT curve.

Hybrid ma.eria.s consisting of M(II)Pc (M = Fe, Co, Ni) pa.ticles dispersed in nylon 11 films ha.e been prepa.ed by using a.therma. rela.a.ion technique. The obta.ned films a.e cha.a.terized by a.M, SEM a.d TEM, a.d their structura. composition is determined by IR spectroscopy a.d EDS. The M(II)Pc pa.ticles a.e homogeneously distributed in the nylon 11 ma.rix a.ter hea. trea.ment. Optica. a.sorption studies of the hybrid films a.e performed in the 200 - 1150 nm wa.elength ra.ge. The ba.d-model theory is a.plied to determine the optica. pa.a.eters for MPc/nylon 11 hybrid films. The optica. ba.d ga. of the thin films is determined from the (αhν)1/2 vs. hν plots for indirectly a.lowing tra.sitions a.d compa.ing with the a.-deposited M(II)Pc thin films. The va.ues of the optica. ba.d ga. ca.cula.ed from the a.sorption spectra. ra.ge between 1.07 a.d 2.7 eV. The electrica. conductivity is mea.ured in order to eva.ua.e the conductivity beha.ior of these hybrid films.
