Heterogeneous Parallel Algorithm Design and Performance Optimization for WENO on the Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer

A Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory scheme(WENO) is a solution to hyperbolic conservation laws,suitable for solving high-density fluid interface instability with strong intermittency. These problems have a large and complex flow structure. To fully utilize the computing power of High Performance Computing(HPC) systems, it is necessary to develop specific methodologies to optimize the performance of applications based on the particular system’s architecture. The Sunway TaihuLight supercomputer is currently ranked as the fastest supercomputer in the world. This article presents a heterogeneous parallel algorithm design and performance optimization of a high-order WENO on Sunway TaihuLight. We analyzed characteristics of kernel functions, and proposed an appropriate heterogeneous parallel model. We also figured out the best division strategy for computing tasks,and implemented the parallel algorithm on Sunway TaihuLight. By using access optimization, data dependency elimination, and vectorization optimization, our parallel algorithm can achieve up to 172× speedup on one single node, and additional 58× speedup on 64 nodes, with nearly linear scalability.

Investigation of processing–microstructure–property relationship using hot compression of a cone-shaped specimen

Gradient microstructure of the specimen was achieved by applying gradient thermoplastic deformation via electric resist-ance heating and hot compression of the cone-shaped specimen. A numerical modeling and experiment tests are conducted to investigate the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties in different regions of the specimen subjected to the gradient process parameters. Microstructure analysis revealed a direct relationship between the grain size and processing parameters. The temperature distribution on the gradient specimen ranges from about 800 to 1110 ℃ and equivalent strain along the axis of symmetry of the specimen section ranges from about 0.1 to 1.2. Under a temperature of 1050 ℃ and the equivalent strain of 0.7, the middle region of the specimen section has fine and equiaxed prior-austenitic grains with an average size of (27?±?11) μm. Corresponding to the processing parameters, the lath martensite variants microstructure in this position with the highest hardness of (946?±?17) HV. Consequently, the linkages among hot compression parameters, microstructure, and material properties of hardness are established via a high-throughput method in a cone-shaped specimen.

The interannual variations in salt flux on the 80°E section in the equatorial Indian Ocean were explored based on the ORAS5 data,which was quite consistent with the observational data among the four available reanalysis *** results indicated that the area with significant interannual variations in salt flux coincided with that of significant climatological mean salt flux in general and was mainly located in the upper 150 m ***,three important areas were identified in the north-south direction,i.e.,(1)the Equatorial Indian Ocean Area(EIOA,3°S–3°N),where the mean salt flux was eastward with the largest value on the section and associated with the most significant interannual variations mainly modulated by the Wyrtki Jets and the Equatorial Undercurrent;(2)the South Equatorial Indian Ocean Area(SEIOA,3°S–6°S),where the mean salt flux changed in the vertical direction from strong eastward flux in the upper layer to weak westward flux in the subsurface layer and associated with significant interannual variations in the upper 100 m layer,which was affected by the South Equatorial Countercurrent;and(3)the North Equatorial Indian Ocean Area(NEIOA,3°N–6°N),where the mean salt flux changed in the north-south direction from strong westward flux to the north of 5°N to weak eastward flux in the south and associated with relatively significant interannual variations,which was mainly influenced by the South Sri Lanka Coastal *** leading interannual variation modes were revealed by the empirical orthogonal function *** first mode accounted for 39%of the total variance and had four significant spatial antinodes;two of those in-phase antinodes were located at SEIOA and upper 75 m of EIOA,and the other two opposite in-phase antinodes were located at NEIOA and below 75 m of *** second mode accounted for 17%of the total variance having four antinodes with two dominant out-of-phase antinodes located at the subsurface of EIOA and ***

Although sodium ion capacitors(SICs)are considered as one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage devices(organic electrolyte batteries,aqueous batteries and supercapacitor,etc.)due to the combined merits of battery and capacitor,the slow reaction kinetics and low specific capacity of anode materials are the main *** defects including vacancies and heteroatoms doping have been widely used to improve the kinetics behavior and capacity of anode ***,the interaction between vacancies and heteroatoms doping have been seldomly *** this study,a hybrid point defects(HPD)engineering has been proposed to synthesize TiO_(2) with both oxygen vacancies(OVs)and P-dopants(TiO_(2)/C-HPD).In comparison with sole OVs or P-doping treatments,the synergistic effects of HPD on its electrical conductivity and sodium storage performance have been clarified through the density func-tional theory calculation and sodium storage *** expected,the kinetics and electronic conductivity of TiO_(2)/C-HPD3 are significantly improved,resulting in excellent rate performance and outstanding cycle ***,the SICs assembled from TiO_(2)/C-HPD3 anode and nitrogen-doped porous carbon cathode show outstanding power/energy density,ultra-long life with good capacity *** work provides a novel point defect engineering perspective for the development of high-performance SICs electrode materials.

Vegetable oil is one of the most promising renewable feedstocks as an alternative to fossil resources,but there are few studies aiming to transform it into hydrophilic *** proposed a facile method to prepare water-soluble derivatives from soybean oil,which could become water resistant again after simple heat *** model vegetable oil,soybean oil(SO),was first reacted with maleic anhydride(MA)by the Alder ene reaction to obtain maleinized soybean oil(SOMA),and SOMA was further reacted with gaseous ammonia to obtain the maleamic acid form(SOMA-Amic acid),which was very soluble in water(solubility>100 mg/mL).The obtained water-soluble product was converted to the water-resistant maleimide form(SOMA-Imide)by a simple heat *** potential application of these vegetable oil derived materials was demonstrated in paper sizing as an ***-Amic acid was demonstrated to be a novel green material,which can be used in an aqueous process and then heat-treated to become water-resistant in the final product.

Positivity and Stability of Fractional-Order Linear Time-Delay Systems

This article focuses on the positivity and the asymptotic stability of fractional-order linear time-delay systems(FOLTDSs)which are composed of N(N≥2)***,a sufficient and necessary condition is given to ensure the positivity of *** solutions of the studied systems are obtained by using the Laplace transform method,and it can be observed that the positivity of FOLTDSs is completely determined by the series of matrices and independent of the magnitude of ***,a theorem is given to prove the asymptotic stability of positive *** considering the monotonicity and asymptotic properties of systems with constant time-delay,it is further shown that the asymptotic stability of positive FOLTDSs is independent of the ***,a state-feedback controller,whose gain matrix is derived by resolving a linear programming question,is designed such that the state variables of the systems are nonnegative and asymptotically *** the order of the FOLTDSs is greater than one,by utilizing a proposed property of Caputo derivative,a sufficient condition for the positivity of FOLTDS is ***,simulation examples are presented to verify the validity and practicability of the theoretical analysis.

Effective removal of Sb(V)from aqueous solutions by micro-electrolysis with composite scrap iron-manganese as filler

Micro-electrolysis(ME)technology is investigated for improving the efficiency of removal of pentavalent antimony(Sb(V))from the *** this study,an ME system composed of scrap iron filings,waste manganese fillings,and activated carbon(Fe-Mn-C ME)was used to efficiently remove Sb(V).The results proved that,compared with conventional iron-carbon micro-electrolysis(Fe-C ME),Fe-Mn-C ME significantly enhances the removal rate of Sb(V)when the hydraulic retention time is 10–24 *** Fe-Mn flocs produced by this system were analyzed using X-ray diffraction(XRD),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)surface area analysis,which revealed that the flocs were mostly Mn-substituted FeOOH and had a relatively larger specific surface area,providing better adsorption ***,it was found that the removal rate of Sb(V)decreased as the iron-carbon mass ratio increased,while it first increased and then decreased as the manganese content *** reduction of Fe(III)was accelerated with an increase in the addition of manganese,leading to an increase in the concentration of Fe(II).The electron transfer and the formation of Fe(II)were facilitated by the potential difference between manganese and carbon,as well as by the formation of microcells between iron and manganese,which improved the reduction ability of Sb(V).From our thorough investigation and research,this is the first report that has proposed Fe-Mn-C ME for removing *** provides a novel approach and technological support for removing Sb(V)efficiently.
