Modeling tactile perceived intensity for vibration from a coin eccentric rotating mass motor

Establishing the relationship between vibrotactile parameters and perceived intensity（PI） is of great significance in the regulation of desired sensations, which contribute to haptic interfaces in practical applications. Coin eccentric rotating mass（ERM） motors are routinely utilized due to their lightweight design and efficient ability to evoke strong tactile sensations. By adjusting input voltages, ERMs can yield different stimuli, but the effects of their physical properties on PI remain ***, we developed the physical model of the ERM-skin system and optimized the parameters affecting PI. Moreover, the relationship between stimulus and perception was derived based on Fechner?s law. Three experiments were conducted on fifteen subjects（ten males and five females, aged 24.40 ± 2.87 years） to identify the vibration parameters and corresponding PI to verify the proposed PI model. ERMs in this study were attached to phantom skin/forearm with slim adhesive tape to minimize the interference. Experiment 1 performed vibration calibration with ERM attached to the skin phantom to simulate the actual configuration. Then, the relative and absolute PI of subjects on specific stimuli were acquired in Experiments 2 and *** fitting reliability of the proposed PI model was evaluated on fifteen subjects with R2of 0.73 ± 0.07 and root mean squared error（RMSE） of 1.35 ± 0.28. Overall, the proposed PI model established the quantitative relationship between stimulus parameters（vibration parameters and physical parameters） and subjective PI, which provided theoretical support for ERM optimization and vibrotactile modulation.

Despite considerable research underscoring the importance of carbohydrate intake in relation to the risk of type 2 diabetes(T2D), a comprehensive assessment of this relationship is currently lacking. We aimed to examine the associations of various types and food sources of dietary carbohydrate intake with the risk of T2D, to evaluate potential effect modification by other factors, including genetic susceptibility,and to explore the potential mediators for such associations. The present study included 161,872 participants of the UK Biobank who were free of prevalent cancer, cardiovascular disease, or diabetes, and had at least one validated 24-h dietary recall assessment. Multivariableadjusted age-stratified Cox proportional hazard regression models were applied to estimate hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CI) for the associations of various types and food sources of dietary carbohydrate intake with risk of T2D. During a median follow-up of13.6 years, 4,176 incident cases of T2D were identified. In the multivariable-adjusted models, a greater intake of fiber, carbohydrates from whole grains, and carbohydrates from non-starchy vegetables was significantly associated with a lower risk of T2D(highest vs. lowest quantile, HR [95% CI]=0.70 [0.62–0.79], 0.74 [0.67–0.82], and 0.83 [0.75–0.92], respectively, all P for trend <0.005). In contrast, a higher intake of starch and carbohydrate from starchy vegetables was associated with an increased risk of T2D(highest vs. lowest quantile, HR [95%CI]=1.31 [1.16–1.48] and 1.19 [1.09–1.31], respectively, both P for trend <0.005). Replacing one serving of refined grains or starchy vegetables with an equal amount of whole grains or non-starchy vegetables was associated with 4% to 10% lower risk of T2D(all P values <0.001).The observed associations were generally similar across population subgroups, including individuals with different genetic susceptibility to T2D. 针对硫化硅橡胶在刚性压头作用下的大变形接触问题,研究了橡胶类软材料接触区区域变形场的实验测量技术。为了研究硫化硅橡胶与刚性体在试件内部接触的大变形问题,本文提出了一种体内数字栅云纹实验技术,给出了该技术的原理和实现方法。然后运用数字图像处理方法得到了橡胶材料大变形位移u场、v场,并结合橡胶材料在压头作用下的理论分区模型,分析了软材料接触区域的大变形场,讨论了接触区域的变形分区规律,并初步给出了接触区域应变计算方法。

Adhesion has been demonstrated to play an important role in contact and friction between objects at small scales. While various models have been established for adhesive contact under normal forces, studies on the adhesive contact under tangential force have been far fewer, which if any, are mostly confined to the non-slipping situations. In the present work, a model has been proposed for adhesive contact with local sliding under tangential forces. Herein, the onset of local sliding in adhesive contact has been addressed by assuming the nucleation of dislocations. By analogy with the emission of dislocations at a crack tip, the critical tangential force for the onset of sliding has been determined, and its effect on the evolution of contact size has also been studied. Comparison with relevant experiments has verified the validity of the present model.

In this editorial,we have commented on the article that has been published in the recent issue of World Journal of Clinical *** authors have described a case of unilateral thyroid cyst and have opined that the acute onset of infection may be linked to diabetes mellitus(DM).We have focused on the role of nutrition in the association between DM and *** with DM are at a high risk of infection,which could also be attributed to nutrition-related *** interventions for patients with diabetes are mainly based on a low-calorie diet,which can be achieved by adhering to a low-carbohydrate ***,dietary fiber supplementation is recommended to maintain the diversity of the gut ***,high-quality protein can prevent the increased risk of infection due to *** of vitamins C,vitamins A,vitamins D,and folic acid improves blood sugar control and facilitates immune *** deficiencies augment the risk of infection,but the relationship with diabetes is mostly U-shaped and a good intake should be maintained.

Observations of gravity wave activity during stratospheric sudden warmings in the Northern Hemisphere

Arctic stratospheric sudden warming(SSW) with polar vortex displacement and splitting occurred in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The temperature profiles derived from the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate(COSMIC) along with NCEP/NCAR reanalysis are used to investigate the gravity wave(GW) variations during these SSW events. Some phenomena are characterized and possible mechanisms are discussed. The GW variations during both types of SSW events shared some similarities. During the warming events, enhanced zonal mean GW amplitudes are detected. The enhancements of GW amplitudes first appeared at higher altitudes and then progressed downward during the major warming events. The downward progressions correspond well with the height variations of the zonal wind reversal, and the enhancements seem to occur at the same time with the wind reversal. The spatial variations of GWs showed evident correlation to the polar vortex. Generally, GWs were enhanced at the edge of the polar vortex where the background wind was strong, whereas the areas with the largest GW amplitudes did not always correspond with those with the strongest background wind. The differences during the two types of SSW are also noticeable. In the 2008 major event, the magnitudes of the zonal mean GW enhancements during the downward progression were relatively stable, whereas in the 2009 major event, a clear reduction was detected as the GW enhancement was progressing downward. Also, the recovery time of the polar vortex was longer in 2009. These differences indicate that different types of SSWs may have different impacts on the GW.

Diurnal variations of the planetary boundary layer height estimated from intensive radiosonde observations over Yichang, China

By using the eight-times-daily sampling data from an intensive radiosonde observation campaign at Yichang(111°18′E,30°42′N),China in August 2006 and January 2007,the diurnal variation of the planetary boundary layer height determined by using a bulk Richardson(Ri)number approach,was studied in this *** was found that the boundary layer heights in both summer and winter months showed diurnal changes and the daily cycle was deeper in summer,which agreed well with the previous studies;the monthly averaged height was 103–1112 m and 89–450 m in summer and winter,respectively;the morning rise began at 0700 LT/1000 LT in summer/winter and the evening transition occurred at 1900 LT in both seasons;the maximum height occurred in the afternoon for most cases,except some peaks found in the winter night;the surface temperature and relative humidity dominated the variations of summer height,while the diurnal variation shown in January 2007 might have some connections with the dynamical processes in the lower troposphere,besides the surface effects.

A cobalt-free perovskite-type Ba0.5Sr0.5A10.1Fe0.9O3-δ （BSAF） chemically studied as solid oxide fuel cell （SOFC） cathode. The ductivity, and electrode polarizations in symmetrical cell based is developed and electro- structures, electrical con- on mixed ion conducting electrolyte were investigated, respectively. The temperature dependence of conductivity of BSAF in air shows a typical semiconductor behavior with positive temperature coefficient up to 450℃ where the conductivity reaches 14.0 S/cm while above this temperature the negative temperature coefficient dominates the total conductivity. Electrochemical charac- terizations show desirable polarization resistance of BSAF cathode in a symmetric cell based on mixed ion conducting electrolyte at 650-700℃, A single SOFC with BSAF cathode shows OCV of 1.0 V and maximum output of 420 mW/cm2 at 700 ℃ with humidified hydrogen fuel and static air oxidant.
