BACKGROUND Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR)poses a significant challenge in diabetes management due to its microvascular changes in the *** photocoagulation,a conventional therapy,aims to mitigate the risk of progressing to proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).AIM To compare the efficacy and safety of multi-spot vs single-spot scanning panretinal laser photocoagulation in NPDR *** Forty-nine NPDR patients(86 eyes)treated between September 2020 and July 2022 were *** were randomly allocated into single-spot(n=23,40 eyes)and multi-spot(n=26,46 eyes)*** outcomes,including bestcorrected visual acuity(BCVA),central macular thickness(CMT),and mean threshold sensitivity,were assessed at predetermined intervals over 12 *** reactions were also *** Energy levels did not significantly differ between groups(P>0.05),but the multi-spot group exhibited lower energy density(P0.05).CONCLUSION While energy intensity and safety were comparable between modalities,multi-spot scanning demonstrated lower energy density and showed superior short-term improvements in BCVA and CMT for NPDR patients,with reduced laser-induced damage.

Hydrogen production through hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)offers a promising solution to combat climate change by replacing fossil fuels with clean energy ***,the widespread adoption of efficient electrocatalysts,such as platinum(Pt),has been hindered by their high *** this study,we developed an easy-to-implement method to create ultrathin Pt nanomembranes,which catalyze HER at a cost significantly lower than commercial Pt/C and comparable to non-noble metal *** Pt nanomembranes consist of highly distorted Pt nanocrystals and exhibit a heterogeneous elastic strain field,a characteristic rarely seen in conventional *** unique feature results in significantly higher electrocatalytic efficiency than various forms of Pt electrocatalysts,including Pt/C,Pt foils,and numerous Pt singleatom or single-cluster *** research offers a promising approach to develop highly efficient and cost-effective low-dimensional electrocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen production,potentially addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis.

Recent research on photothermal therapy(PTT) has sparked significant interest in the development of new organic photothermal agents(PTAs),ranging from single-molecule to aggregated ***,controlling aggregation pathways for PTAs with ultrahigh photothermal conversion efficiency(PCE) remains a major ***,a two-pronged approach utilizing “Haggregation” and “intramolecular motion” was employed to enhance the PCE of an acceptor-substituted squaraine dye(NSQs).The C2vmolecular symmetry of the NSQs,which possess a ground state dipole moment(μg),promotes H-dimeric aggregates through dipole-dipole *** triphenylethylene or diphenylamine groups were added to this H-dimeric *** was done to enhance intramolecular motions for heat generation and also to extend conjugation,which redshifted the optical absorption and balanced the blue-shift induced by *** this technique,an organic PTA with NIR-II absorption was developed,and its nanoparticle achieved a remarkable PCE of 86.3% under 1,064 nm laser *** transient absorption spectroscopy and quantum mechanical calculations demonstrated the accelerated internal conversion process in NIR-II PTAs for rapid heat *** NSQs nanoparticles exhibit superior photothermal therapeutic properties for in vivo photoacoustic imaging-guided PTT,demonstrating the potential of bottom-up design to enable synergistic engineering strategies towards efficient phototheranostic agents.

Rapid increase in desertification is an environ-mental concern,especially for the health and sustainabil-ity of ecosystems in changing *** ecosystems respond to such changes may be partially understood by studying interactions and performance of critically impor-tant groups such as soil fungi functional *** study investigated variations in diversities of three soil fungi functional guilds(saprotrophic,symbiotic,pathogenic)and influencing abiotic factors in a Pinus densata forest on the southeast Tibetan Plateau where desertification is *** results indicate desertification significantly decreased the proportion of dominant fungal guild-symbiotic fungi(mean relative abundance decreasing from 97.0%to 68.3%),in contrast to saprotrophic fungi(increasing from 2.7%to 25.7%)and pathogenic(from 0.3%to 5.9%).Soil pH had the most significant impact on fungal community structure and negatively correlated with symbiotic fungal richness,which was significantly lower in arid soils,and positively correlated with saprotrophic and pathogenic fungal alpha-diversity,which were *** community struc-tures and regulators of the three fungi communities were observed,with pH,total phosphorus and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))as the main *** study links the biotic and abi-otic components during desertification and the interactions between them,and may be used as indicators of ecosystem health and for amendments to mitigate the effects of a chang-ing climate.

BACKGROUND Giant congenital biliary dilation(CBD)is a rare condition observed in clinical *** born with this condition often experience a poor overall health status,and the disease progresses rapidly,leading to severe biliary obstruction,infections,pressure exerted by the enlarged CBD on abdominal organs,disturbances in the internal environment,and multiple organ *** treatment of giant CBD using laparoscopy is challenging due to the high degree of variation in the shape of the bile duct and other organs,making it difficult to separate the bile duct wall from adjacent tissues or to control *** SUMMARY Herein,we present the details of an 11-d-old male newborn who was diagnosed with giant *** patient was admitted to the neonatal surgery department of our hospital due to a history of common bile duct cyst that was detected more than 3 mo ago,and also because the patient had been experiencing yellowish skin for the past 9 *** abnormal echo in the fetal abdomen was first noticed by the patient’s mother during a routine ultrasound examination at a local hospital,when the patient was at 24 wk+6 d of *** finding raised concerns about the possibility of congenital biliary dilatation(22 mm×21 mm).Subsequent ultrasound examinations at different hospitals consistently confirmed the presence of a congenital biliary *** specific treatment was administered for biliary dilatation during this period.A computed tomography scan conducted during the hospitalization revealed a large cystic mass in the right upper quadrant and pelvis,measuring approximately 9.2 cm×7.4 cm×11.3 *** on the CONCLUSION The analysis reveals that prenatal imaging techniques,such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging,play a crucial role in the early diagnosis,fetal prognosis,and treatment plan for giant *** surgery for giant CBD presents certain challenges,including difficulties in separating the cyst wall,anastomosis,and hemos

By considering the joint effects of the Kelvin-Helmholtz(KH) and Rayleigh-Taylor(RT) instabilities, this paper presents an interpretation of the wavy patterns that occur in explosive welding. It is assumed that the elasticity of the material at the interface effectively determines the wavelength, because explosive welding is basically a solid-state welding process. To this end, an analytical model of elastic hydrodynamic instabilities is proposed, and the most unstable mode is selected in the solid phase. Similar approaches have been widely used to study the interfacial behavior of solid metals in high-energy-density physics. By comparing the experimental and theoretical results, it is concluded that thermal softening,which significantly reduces the shear modulus, is necessary and sufficient for successful welding. The thermal softening is verified by theoretical analysis of the increase in temperature due to the impacting and sliding of the flyer and base plates, and some experimental observations are qualitatively *** summary, the combined effect of the KH and RT instabilities in solids determines the wavy morphology, and our theoretical results are in good qualitative agreement with experimental and numerical observations.

The complexity of alarm detection and diagnosis tasks often results in a lack of alarm log *** to the strong rule associations inherent in alarm log data,existing data augmentation algorithms cannot obtain good results for alarm log *** address this problem,this paper introduces a new algorithm for augmenting alarm log data,termed APRGAN,which combines a generative adversarial network(GAN)with the Apriori *** generates alarm log data under the guidance of rules mined by the rule ***,we propose a new dynamic updating mechanism to alleviate the mode collapse problem of the *** addition to updating the real reference dataset used to train the discriminator in the GAN,we dynamically update the parameters and the rule set of the Apriori algorithm according to the data generated in each *** extensive experimentation on two public datasets,it is demonstrated that APRGAN surpasses other data augmentation algorithms in the domain with respect to alarm log data augmentation,as evidenced by its superior performance on metrics such as BLEU,ROUGE,and METEOR.

Fishway research is important for mitigating the fragmentation of river habitats caused by hydraulic *** vertical slit fishway is a broadly used fishway type because of its high efficiency and adaptability to water ***,the resulting vortex current disrupts the fish passage hence directly affecting fish *** study aims to accurately capture the vortex structure in the fishway and analyze the effect of vortex elements(vortex structure,vortex intensity,etc.)on *** conducted an analysis of the 3-D current flow field in the fishway through the utilization of an experimental model and the large eddy simulation(LES)***,we captured the vortex information in the fishway at different flow rates using the Liutex vortex identification method and investigated the effect of the vortex on fish *** results revealed that the structures inside the fishway pool occupy most of the room,however,the areas with higher vortex strength were primarily located in the vortex near the vertical seam and the mainstream,the vortex strength inside the fishway gradually increases with increasing flow,suppressing fish *** experienced significantly increased resistance when encountering strong *** suggests that the vortex may act as a physical barrier to fish *** findings highlight the potential negative effects of vortex on fish movement and reiterate the importance of understanding vortex dynamics for aquatic environmental *** an effective tool for identifying vortices in fluid flow,the Liutex method demonstrates features of vortex within the fishway,thereby providing important insights into the interaction between fluid dynamics and aquatic organisms.

A negative Poisson's ratio(NPR)structure represents optimal impact-resistance with applications in various fields,including the crash box in vehicles,which absorbs impact kinetic *** crash box is designed to deform in response to impact,increasing local structural density,which enhances impact resistance *** studies have only focused on the NPR effect in the plane dimension at low-speed *** studies have considered high-speed impact loads on three-dimensional NPR *** have developed two types of AlSi10Mg alloy energy-absorbing structures with NPR using three-dimensional printing technology,and have compared our systems with a conventional hexagonal mesh *** testing involved split-Hopkinson pressure bar measurements,which showed good agreement with dynamic numerical *** subjected to an impact load,the NPR structure exhibited better impact resistance and energy absorption compared with the positive Poisson's ratio *** proposed dual-layer hexagonal structure ensures an NPR effect while exhibiting higher strength and improved stability relative to the conventional concave hexagon structure.
