Prognostic significance of combined fibrinogen concentration and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with resectable non-small cell lung cancer

Objective:Cancer-associated inflammation and coagulation cascades play vital roles in cancer progression and *** this study,we investigated the significance of the combination of preoperative fibrinogen and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)in predicting the survival of patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods:We retrospectively enrolled 589 patients with NSCLC who underwent *** univariate and multivariate Cox survival analyses were used to evaluate the prognostic indicators,including the combination of fibrinogen and NLR(F-NLR).The cut-off values for fibrinogen,NLR,and clinical laboratory variables were defined by the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve *** to the ROC curve,the recommended cut-off values for fibrinogen and the NLR were 3.48 g/L and 2.30,*** with both a high NLR(≥2.30)and hyperfibrinogenemia(≥3.48 g/L)were given a score of 2,whereas those with one or neither were scored as 1 or 0,***:Our results showed that F-NLR was an independent prognostic indicator for disease-free survival(DFS)[hazard ratio(HR),1.466;95%confidence interval(CI),1.243–1.730;P<0.001]and overall survival(OS)(HR,1.512;95%CI,1.283–1.783;P<0.001).The five-year OS rates were 66.1%,53.5%,and 33.3%for the F-NLR=0,F-NLR=1,and F-NLR=2,respectively(P<0.001).Correspondingly,their five-year DFS rates were 62.2%,50.3%,and 30.4%,respectively(P<0.001).In the subgroup analyses of the pathological stages,the F-NLR level was significantly correlated with DFS and OS in stage I and IIIA ***:Preoperative F-NLR score can be used as a valuable prognostic marker for patients with resectable early-stage NSCLC.

A Hybrid Coupled Ocean–Atmosphere Model and Its Simulation of ENSO and Atmospheric Responses

A new hybrid coupled model(HCM) is presented in this study, which consists of an intermediate tropical Pacific Ocean model and a global atmospheric general circulation model. The ocean component is the intermediate ocean model(IOM)of the intermediate coupled model(ICM) used at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences(IOCAS). The atmospheric component is ECHAM5, the fifth version of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology atmospheric general circulation model. The HCM integrates its atmospheric and oceanic components by using an anomaly coupling strategy. A100-year simulation has been made with the HCM and its simulation skills are evaluated, including the interannual variability of SST over the tropical Pacific and the ENSO-related responses of the global atmosphere. The model shows irregular occurrence of ENSO events with a spectral range between two and five years. The amplitude and lifetime of ENSO events and the annual phase-locking of SST anomalies are also reproduced realistically. Despite the slightly stronger variance of SST anomalies over the central Pacific than observed in the HCM, the patterns of atmospheric anomalies related to ENSO,such as sea level pressure, temperature and precipitation, are in broad agreement with observations. Therefore, this model can not only simulate the ENSO variability, but also reproduce the global atmospheric variability associated with ENSO, thereby providing a useful modeling tool for ENSO studies. Further model applications of ENSO modulations by ocean–atmosphere processes, and of ENSO-related climate prediction, are also discussed.

Foam/Film Alternating Multilayer Structure with High Toughness and Low Thermal Conductivity Prepared via Microlayer Coextrusion

Multilayer membranes prepared via microlayer coextrusion have attracted wide attention due to their unique properties and broad *** present study,the foam/film alternating multilayer sheets based on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer(EVA)and high-density polyethylene are successfully prepared via microlayer *** cells in the sheets are single-cell-array along the foamed EVA layers with uniform cell *** addition,the effects of layer number and foam relative thickness on morphology,mechanical properties,damping and heat insulation properties are *** cell size decreases significantly with increasing layer number due to the enhanced confine *** tensile strength,elongation at break,and heat insulation also increase ***,the mechanical damping properties change little in the observed ***,with higher relative thickness of EVA foam,the sheets have lower tensile strength and lower thermal conductivity,while the damping properties are enhanced in a specific frequency *** elongation at break of the optimized sample comes to 800%and the thermal conductivity decreases to 61 mW·m^(-1)·K^(-1),which shows high toughness and low thermal conductivity,indicating a possible method for preparing materials with high toughness and heat-insulating properties.

Applicability of Community Periodontal Index Teeth and Random Half-mouth Examination to Gingival Bleeding Assessment in Untreated Adult Population in Beijing

Objective To assess whether Community Periodontal Index (CPI) teeth and random half-mouth methods are representative of full-mouth method in gingival bleeding examination. Methods Data from 1000 untreated adults (age > 18) collected in Beijing from January 2000 to January 2001 were utilized in the analysis. Half of the subjects were examined by Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI) and the other half by Sulcus Bleeding Index (SBI). The data were sorted out and calculated according to CPI teeth and random half-mouth teeth methods. The results of the 2 methods were separately compared with those of full-mouth examination. Results There was a significant difference between CPI teeth method and full-mouth examination (P0.05), nor in diagonal half-mouth results in GBI (P>0.05) Conclusions The results of CPI teeth method on gingival bleeding could not reflect the full-mouth situation. Ipsilateral and diagonal half-mouth results can serve as a substitute for full-mouth results in SBI, while diagonal half-mouth results in GBI.

The El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) is a major interannually re occurring mode of Earth’s climate system that originates naturally from oceanatmosphere interactions in the tropical Pacific and can affect the weather and climate *** has been observed to undergo decadal variations and modulations [1-3],including the intensity,asymmetry of its two phases(El Ni?o and La Ni?a),different types of El Ni?o and multiyear La Ni?a and El Ni?o *** well-known example occurred during the so-called 1976-1977climate shift [4],with El Ni?o events emerging frequently in the tropical Pacific during the 1980s and 1990s.

The charging characteristics of the valve-regulated lead acid(VRLA) battery driven by solar energy were experimentally studied through the pressure-control method in this *** aims of the research were to increase charging efficiency to make the most of solar energy and to improve charging quality to prolong life of *** charging process of a 12 V 12 A·h VRLA battery has been tested under the mode of a stand-alone photovoltaic(PV) *** show that the pressure-control method can effectively control PV charging of the VRLA battery and make the best of PV cells through the maximum power point tracking(MPPT).The damage of VRLA battery by excess oxygen accumulation can be avoided through the inner pressure control of VRLA *** such as solar radiation intensity,charging power,inner pressure of the battery,and charging current and voltage during the charging process were measured and analyzed.

Experimental study on discharge coefficient of a gear-shaped weir

This study focused on hydraulic characteristics around a gear-shaped weir in a straight channel. Systematic experiments were carried out for weirs with two different gear heights and eight groups of geometrical parameters. The impacts of various geometrical parameters of gear-shaped weirs on the discharge capacity were investigated. The following conclusions are drawn from the experimental study:(1) The discharge coefficient(m_c) was influenced by the size of the gear: at a constant discharge, the weir with larger values of a/b(a is the width of the gear, and b is the width between the two neighboring gears) and a/c(c is the height of the gear) had a smaller value of m_c. The discharge capacity of the gear-shaped weir was influenced by the water depth in the weir.(2) For type C1 with a gear height of 0.01 m, when the discharge was less than 60m^3/h and H_1=P 1.0, m_c slowly decreased with the increases of the discharge and H_1=P for a=b 1.0 and a=c 1.0, and slowly increased with the discharge and H_1=P for a=b > 1.0 and a=c > 1.0.(3) A formula of m_cfor gear-shaped weirs was established based on the principle of weir flow, with consideration of the water depth in the weir, the weir height and width, and the height of the gear.

What Drives Migrants Back to Set up Firms?Return-home Entrepreneurial Intention of Rural Migrant Workers in China

The extant literature on international immigrants has discussed migrants’entrepreneurial activities in the context of Western countries but has paid little attention to return-home entrepreneurial intention(RHEI).Rural migrant workers(RMWs)in China,who used to promote rural development by remittances and were characterized by similarities with early international migrants,have gradually returned to their hometowns to initiate entrepreneurial *** on the structured questionnaire conducted in 2015 and 2020in Anhui Province,China,this article combines the concept of mixed embeddedness with the idea of double-layered embeddedness and analyzes the impacts of the social,economic and institutional context in RMWs’hometowns and migration destinations on RMWs’RHEI by using binary logistic *** article shows that the social,economic,and institutional environments of RMWs’hometowns and migration destinations have effects on their *** embeddedness in the economic and informal institutional context in RMWs’RHEI is even more important than personal *** with migration destinations,RMWs’hometowns exert a more influential effect on their ***,that does not mean that the role of migration destinations can be ***,the better the social,economic,and institutional environments of migration destinations RMWs moved into is,the higher entrepreneurial intention they will have after returning to their *** article proposes a modified framework in combination of mixed embeddedness with double-layer embeddedness and proves that it is suitable for analyzing RMWs’*** framework has important implications for strengthening China’s RMWs to return home to start their own businesses.
