The adsorption of pollutants can not only promote the direct surface reaction,but also modify the catalyst itself to improve its photoelectric characteristics,which is rarely studied for water treatment with inorganic photocatalyst.A highly crystalline BiOBr(c-BiOBr)was synthesized by a two-step preparation *** to the calcination,the highly crystalline enhanced the interface interaction between pollutant and *** complex of organic pollutant and[Bi_(2)O_(2)]^(2+)could promote the active electron transfer from the adsorbed pollutant to c-BiOBr for the direct pollutant degradation by holes(h^(+)).Moreover,the pollutant adsorption actually modified c-BiOBr and promoted more unpaired electrons,which would coupling with the photoexcitation to promote generate more O_(2)^(•-).The molecular modification effect derived from pollutant adsorption significantly improved the removal of *** work strongly deepens the understanding of the molecularmodification effect from the pollutant adsorption and develops a novel and efficient approach for water treatment.

Sequential use of ultraviolet light and chlorine for reclaimed water disinfection

Several disinfection processes of ultraviolet （UV）, chlorine or UV followed by chlorine were investigated in municipal wastewater according to the inactivation of Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae and toxicity formation. The UV inactivation of the tested pathogenic bacteria was not affected by the quality of water. It was found that the inactivated bacteria were obviously reactivated after one day in dark. Fluorescent light irradiation increased the bacteria repair. The increase of UV dosage could cause more damage to bacteria to inhibit bacteria self-repair. No photoreactivation was detected when the UV dose was up to 80 mJ/cm2 for E. coli DH5ct, and 23 mJ/cm2 for S. dysenteriae. Nevertheless, sequential use of 8 mJ/cm2 of UV and low concentration of chlorine （1.5 mg/L） could effectively inhibit the photoreactivation and inactivate E. coli below the detection limits within seven days. Compared to chlorination alone, the sequential disinfection decreased the genotoxicity of treated wastewater, especially for the sample with high NH3-N concentration.

The control of red water occurrence and opportunistic pathogens risks in drinking water distribution systems:A review

Many problems in drinking water distribution systems(DWDSs)are caused by microbe,such as biofilm formation,biocorrosion and opportunistic pathogens *** iron release from corrosion scales may induce red *** played great roles on the *** iron-oxidizing bacteria(IOB)promoted ***,when iron-reducing bacteria(IRB)and nitrate-reducing bacteria(NRB)became the main bacteria in biofilm,they could induce iron redox cycling in corrosion *** process enhanced the precipitation of iron oxides and formation of more Fe3 O4 in corrosion scales,which inhibited corrosion ***,the IRB and NRB in the biofilm can reduce iron release and red water ***,there are many opportunistic pathogens in biofilm of *** opportunistic pathogens growth in DWDSs related to the bacterial community changes due to the effects of *** increased the number of bacteria with antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs).Furthermore,extracellular polymeric substances(EPS)production was increased by the antibiotic resistant bacteria,leading to greater bacterial aggregation and adsorption,increasing the chlorine-resistance capability,which was responsible for the enhancement of the particle-associated opportunistic pathogens in ***,O3-biological activated carbon filtration-UV-Cl2 treatment could be used to control the iron release,red water occurrence and opportunistic pathogens growth in DWDSs.

Morphology of metal nanoparticles photodeposited on TiO_2/silical gel and photothermal activity for destruction of ethylene

The morphology of supported metal nanoparticles on TiO2/silical gel （TSO） and photothermal synergism were investigated for destruction of ethylene. During photocatalytic deposition of metal nanopartilces, the effects of pH and light intensity on the morphology of coated platinum, palladium, gold on TiO2/silical gel were studied. Moreover, these catalysts were characterized by TEM, UV-Vis DRS. The pH of preparing solution have strong influence on dispersion, size and sites of Pt, Pd and Au on TSO, which were controlled by the electrostatic binding of HPtCl5^- AuCl4^- and TiOH2^＋, Pd^2＋ and TiO^- respectively. Platinum, gold and palladium nanoparticles were uniformly highly dispersed on the titanol sites not silanol of TiO2/silical gel under pH=2, pH =9.9 respectively. For the photodegradation of ethylene, they show higher photothermal efficiency than those prepared with other pH conditions under UV illumination in a non-circulating photoreactor. The optimum weight loadings of Pt, Au, and Pd were 0.25 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1 wt%, respectively. The synergistic effect enhanced ethylene removal and CO2 production. Thcse results verify that the best photothermal synergistic effect depends on the dispersion, size of noble metal nano-particles. FTIR analyses of the used Pt-, Pd-TSO catalysts indicated that no significant by-products were accumulated on the surface of the catalysts, leading to them longer lifetime.

Preparation and evaluation of Zr-β-FeOOH for efficient arsenic removal

A Zr-β-FeOOH adsorbent for both As（Ⅴ） and As（Ⅲ） removal was prepared by a chemical co-precipitation method. Compared with β-FeOOH, the addition of Zr enhanced the adsorption capacities for As（Ⅴ） and As（Ⅲ）, especially As（Ⅲ）. The maximum adsorption capacities for As（Ⅲ） and As（Ⅴ） were 120 and 60 mg/g respectively at pH 7.0, much higher than for many reported adsorbents. The adsorption data accorded with Freundlich isotherms. At neutral pH, for As（Ⅴ）, adsorption equilibrium was approached after 3 hr, while for As（Ⅲ）, adsorption equilibrium was approached after 5 hr. Kinetic data fitted well to the pseudo second-order reaction model. As（Ⅴ） elimination was favored at acidic pH, whereas the adsorption of As（Ⅲ） by Zr-β-FeOOH was found to be effective over a wide pH range of 4-10. Competitive anions hindered the adsorption according to the sequence： phosphate 〉 silicate 〉 bicarbonate 〉 sulfate 〉 nitrate, while Ca2＋ and Mg2＋ increased the removal of As（Ⅲ） and As（Ⅴ） slightly. The high adsorption capability and good performance in other aspects make Zr-β-FeOOH a potentially attractive adsorbent for the removal of both As（Ⅲ） and As（Ⅴ） from water.

Triggered by global water quality safety issues,the research on wastewater treatment and water purification technology has been greatly developed in recent *** Fenton technology is particularly powerful due to the rapid attack on pollutants by the generated hydroxyl radicals(·OH).However,both heterogeneous and homogeneous Fenton/Fenton-like technologies follow the classical reaction mechanism,which depends on the oxidation and reduction of the transition metal ions at single *** even after a century of development,this reaction still suffers from its inherent bottlenecks in practical *** recent years,our group has been focusing on studying a novel heterogeneous Fenton catalytic process,and we developed the dual-reaction-center(DRC)system for the first *** the DRC system,H2O2 and O2 can be efficiently reduced to reactive oxygen species(ROS)in electron-rich centers,while pollutants are captured and oxidized by the electron-deficient *** obtained electrons from pollutants are diverted to the electron-rich centers through bonding *** process breaks through the classic Fenton mechanism,and improves the performance and efficiency of pollutant removal in a wide pH ***,we provide a brief overview of Fenton's story and focus on combing the discovery and development of the DRC technology and mechanism in recent *** construction of the DRC and its performance in the pollutant degradation and interfacial reaction process are described in *** look forward to bringing a new perspective to continue Fenton's story through research and development of DRC technology.
