Functional magnetic resonance imaging of cerebellar activation and lateralization during verbal and visuospatial tasks

BACKGROUND： Previous studies have analyzed cerebral activation and lateralization of cognitive functions, as well as cerebellar function with reference to high-level cognitive processing. However, there has been very little research on systematization and diversification. In particular, there are no reports on cerebellar lateralization, although reliable results have been reported on cerebral lateralization. OBJECTIVE： This study analyzed cerebellar activation and lateralization in relation to verbal and visuospatial tasks using functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A block design for fMRI observation was performed at the fMRI Laboratory, Brain Science Research Center, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from May 2006 to September 2008. PARTICIPANTS： Sixteen healthy, male, college students, aged （23.3 ± 0.5） years, and 16 healthy, male, college students, aged （21.5 ± 2.3） years, participated in the study, respectively. METHODS： Verbal and visuospatial tasks were presented while functional brain images were acquired using a 3T fMRI system. Verbal analogy testing required the subject to select the word with the same relationship as one of the given words. Verbal antonym testing required the subject to select the word with a different meaning among four words. Visuospatial tasks involved selecting a shape that corresponded to a given figure with four examples, as well as selecting a development figure of a diagram. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Changes in cerebellar activation and lateralization between two cognition tasks. RESULTS： Bilateral hemisphere Iobules VI and IX, right hemisphere Iobule VIII, bilateral hemisphere Iobules Crus I, and vermis Iobule IV, V, and Vl were closely related to verbal tasks in comparison to visuospatial tasks. Soil salinity is one of the most serious agricultural problems that significantly reduce crop yields in the aridand semi-arid regions. It influences various phases of plant growth and developmental processes, such as seed germina-tion, leaf and stem growth, and reproductive propagation. Salt stress delays the onset of flowering in many plant spe-cies. We have previously reported that the Arabidopsis BROTHER OF FT AND TFL1 （BFT） acts as a floral repressor undersalt stress. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the BFT function in the salt regulation of flowering inductionis unknown. In this work, we found that BFT delays flowering under high salinity by competing with FLOWERING LOCUST （FT） for binding to the FD transcription factor. The flowering time of FD-deficient fd-2 mutant was insensitive to highsalinity. BFT interacts with FD in the nucleus via the C-terminal domain of FD, which is also required for the interactionof FD with FT, and interferes with the FT-FD interaction. These observations indicate that BFT constitutes a distinct saltstress signaling pathway that modulates the function of the FT-FD module and possibly provides an adaptation strategythat fine-tunes photoperiodic flowering under high salinity.

Accurate and scalable graph neural network force field and molecular dynamics with direct force architecture

Recently,machine learning(ML)has been used to address the computational cost that has been limiting ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD).Here,we present GNNFF,a graph neural network framework to directly predict atomic forces from automatically extracted features of the local atomic environment that are translationally-invariant,but rotationally-covariant to the coordinate of the *** demonstrate that GNNFF not only achieves high performance in terms of force prediction accuracy and computational speed on various materials systems,but also accurately predicts the forces of a large MD system after being trained on forces obtained from a smaller ***,we use our framework to perform an MD simulation of Li7P3S11,a superionic conductor,and show that resulting Li diffusion coefficient is within 14%of that obtained directly from *** high performance exhibited by GNNFF can be easily generalized to study atomistic level dynamics of other material systems.

Highly Flexible Fabrics/Epoxy Composites with Hybrid Carbon Nanofillers for Absorption-Dominated Electromagnetic Interference Shielding

Epoxy-based nano-composites can be ideal electromagnetic interference(EMI)-shielding materials owing to their lightness,chemical inertness,and mechanical ***,poor conductivity and brittleness of the epoxy resin are challenges for fast-growing portable and flexible EMI-shielding applications,such as smart wristband,medical cloth,aerospace,and military *** this study,we explored hybrid nanofillers of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNT)/reduced graphene oxide(rGO)as conductive inks and polyester fabrics(PFs)as a substrate for flexible EMI-shielding *** highest electrical conductivity and fracture toughness of the SWCNT/rGO/PF/epoxy composites were 30.2 S m^(−1)and 38.5 MPa m^(1/2),which are~270 and 65%enhancement over those of the composites without SWCNTs,*** mechanical durability was demonstrated by stable electrical conductivity retention during 1000 cycles of bending *** EMI-shielding effectiveness of~41 dB in the X-band frequency of 8.2-12.4 GHz with a thickness of 0.6 mm was obtained with an EM absorption-dominant behavior over a 0.7 absorption *** results are attributed to the hierarchical architecture of the macroscale PF skeleton and nanoscale SWCNT/rGO networks,leading to superior EMI-shielding *** believe that this approach provides highly flexible and robust EMI-shielding composites for next-generation wearable electronic devices.

Extrusion limit diagram of AZ91–0.9Ca–0.6Y–0.5MM alloy and effects of extrusion parameters on its microstructure and mechanical properties

An AZ91–0.9Ca–0.6Y–0.5MM(AZXWMM91100) alloy, which has higher corrosion resistance, ignition resistance, and extrudability than a commercial AZ91 alloy, has been developed recently. In this study, the AZXWMM91100 alloy is extruded at various temperatures(300–400 ℃) and ram speeds(1–14.5 mm/s), and the cracking behaviors, microstructure, and tensile properties of the extruded materials are systematically analyzed. On the basis of the pressure limit and surface and internal cracking limit, the extrusion limit diagram providing a safe extrusion processing zone is established. All of the materials extruded at temperatures and speeds within the safe extrusion processing zone have high surface quality and moderate tensile ductility with an elongation higher than 10%. Moreover, they have a fully recrystallized grain structure and contain undissolved particle stringers arranged parallel to the extrusion direction. The grain size of the extruded material does not show any relationship with the Zener–Hollomon parameter(Z). However, the yield strength(YS) of the extruded material is inversely proportional to the logarithm of the Z value, and their relationship is expressed as YS =-31.2·log(Z) + 536. These findings may broaden the understanding of the AZXWMM91100 alloy with excellent chemical and physical properties and provide valuable information for the development of high-performance extruded Mg products using this alloy.

Variation in dynamic deformation behavior and resultant yield asymmetry of AZ80 alloy with extrusion temperature

In this work,variation in the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and dynamic precipitation behavior of AZ80 alloy during extrusion due to changes in extrusion temperature was investigated,and the resultant microstructure and yield asymmetry were *** the extrusion temperature increases from 250℃to 350℃,the primary DRX mechanism changes from twin-induced DRX to discontinuous DRX,resulting in an increase in the DRX area fraction and un DRXed grain *** addition,as the extrusion temperature rises,Mg17Al12 precipitation during extrusion decreases sharply throughout the extruded *** reduction in the compressive yield strength(CYS)with increasing extrusion temperature is more pronounced than it is for the tensile yield strength(TYS),which ultimately increases the yield asymmetry of the extruded *** higher extrusion temperature has less of an influence on the TYS due to the promotion of certain hardening *** the other hand,the greater reduction in the CYS is attributed to the increased fraction and size of regions in which{1012}twins predominantly form and the lower amount of precipitates,which effectively facilitates{1012}twinning.

Secondary endoscopic submucosal dissection for locally recurrent or incompletely resected gastric neoplasms

AIM To investigate the feasibility and safety of secondary endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) for residual or locally recurrent gastric tumors. METHODS Between 2010 and 2017, 1623 consecutive patients underwent ESD for gastric neoplasms at a single tertiary referral center. Among these, 28 patients underwent secondary ESD for a residual or locally recurrent tumor. Our analysis compared clinicopathologic factors between primary ESD and secondary ESD groups. RESULTS The en bloc resection and curative rate of resection of secondary ESD were 92.9% and 89.3%, respectively. The average procedure time of secondary ESD was significantly longer than primary ESD(78.2 min vs 55.1 min, P = 0.004), and the adverse events rate was not significantly different but trended slightly higher in the secondary ESD group compared to the primary ESD group(10.7% vs 3.8%, P = 0.095). Patients who received secondary ESD had favorable outcomes without severe adverse events. During a mean follow-up period, no local recurrence occurred in patients who received secondary ESD. CONCLUSION Secondary ESD of residual or locally recurrent gastric tumors appears to be a feasible and curative treatment though it requires greater technical efficiency and longer procedure time.

Conversion of twice-daily to once-daily tacrolimus is safe in stable adult living donor liver transplant recipients

Once-daily extended-release tacrolimus （Tac-OD） has been introduced as a useful therapeutic option to increase patient adherence to immunosuppressive therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the safety, efficacy and immunosuppressant adherence of conversion from twice-daily tacrolimus （Tac-BID） to Tac-OD in stable adult living donor liver transplant （LDLT） recipients in a single institution. METHODS： Between February and May 2013, Tac-BID was converted to Tac-OD in recipients followed up for at least 12 months after transplantation and without previous rejection episodes. The switching policy was based on a dose ratio of 1：1 with dose adjustment target trough levels at 3-5 ng/mL. Tacro- limus trough levels, laboratory parameters, metabolic disor- ders, and adverse events were assessed. RESULTS： A total of 229 patients were enrolled in the study. The median age at conversion was 53 years （range 31-73）. The median transplant duration was 35.3 months （range 12.0-95.4）. During a median follow-up of 13.5 months after conversion, 9 patients returned to Tac-BID because of adverse events. No acute rejection episodes were observed. Of 214 patients still on Tac-OD at 12 months, 12 （5.6%） received a reduced dose and 95 （44.4%） required an increased dose over baseline. Overall adherence was 82.2% at the end of follow-up. CONCLUSION： The conversion from Tac-BID to Tac-OD with similar target trough levels after conversion is safe and effec- tive for long-term stable LDLT patients.

SPL3/4/5 Integrate Developmental Aging and Photoperiodic Signals into the FT-FD Module in Arabidopsis Flowering

Environmental sensitivity varies across developmental phases in flowering plants. In the juvenile phase, mi- croRNA156 （miR156）-mediated repression of SQUAMOSA PROMOTER-BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE （SPL） transcription factors renders Arabidopsis plants incompetent to floral inductive signals, including long- day （LD） photoperiod. During the vegetative phase transition, which accompanies a reduction of miR156 and a concomitant elevation of its targets, plants acquire reproductive competence such that LD signals promote flowering. However, it remains largely unknown how developmental signals are associated with photoperiodic flowering. Here, we show that SPL3, SPL4, and SPL5 （SPL3/4/5） potentiate the FLOWERING LOCUS T （FT）-FD module in photoperiodic flowering. SPL3/4/5 function as transcriptional activators through the interaction with FD, a basic leucine zipper transcription factor which plays a critical role in photoperiodic flowering. SPL3/4/5 can directly bind to the promoters of APETALA1, LEAFY, and FRUITFULL, thus mediating their activation by the FT-FD complex. Our findings demonstrate that SPL3/ 4/5 act synergistically with the FT-FD module to induce flowering under LDs, providing a long-sought mo- lecular knob that links developmental aging and photoperiodic flowering.
