Breeding and molecular cytogenetic identification of wheat-Thinopyrum intermedium addition lines resistant to powdery mildew

Wheat-related species Th. intermedium was used to cross with common wheat Yannong 15. In the self progenies of the hybrid, two addition lines, II -1-7-1 and II -3-3-2, stable in cytology, were developed by cytology and powdery mildew resistance identification. Their chromosome number were 2n = 44 and formed 22 bivalents at PMC MI. In F1 of the two addition lines crossing with Yannong 15, there appeared about one univalent at PMC MI, respectively. Resistance identification in greenhouse and field using the No. 15 and mixed strains of E. gramnis f. sp. tritici showed that they were immune to powdery mildew. Chromosome number and resistance identification using the F2 single plants of the addition line crossing with Yannong 15 indicated that the resistant gene was located on the alien chromosomes. In situ hybridization using St and E genomic DNA as probe showed that the added chromosome in the two addition lines probably came from the E genome of Th. intermedium, which indicated that a pair of E genome

The control equations of gas concentration field in gob areas with a known velocity field are partial differential equations with variable coefficients,whose traditional mathematical calculation methods are very complex.A numerical simulation method can be used to calculate the gas concentration field,but it also needs considerable amounts of computer resources and the relations of gas concentration at different points of the gob area are *** on the model of stream tubes,the conservation equations of mass and gas components within the stream tube are used to deduce the equations of a gas concentration field in a gob area with a known velocity *** method of calculation of a gas concentration field is applied in a gob area with a U-type ventilation working face,which suggests that this new method has the virtue of exact calculations is simple to operate and has a clear physical interpretation.

The knapsack problem is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem which has been proved to be NP-hard. This paper proposes a new algorithm called quantum-inspired ant algorithm （QAA） to solve the knapsack problem. QAA takes the advantage of the principles in quantum computing, such as qubit, quantum gate, and quantum superposition of states, to get more probabilistic-based status with small colonies. By updating the pheromone in the ant algorithm and rotating the quantum gate, the algorithm can finally reach the optimal solution. The detailed steps to use QAA are presented, and by solving series of test cases of classical knapsack problems, the effectiveness and generality of the new algorithm are validated.

Thinopyrum intermedium has been used as a resource for improving resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and yield potential in common wheat. Wheat line SN304 was derived from a cross between common wheat cultivar Yannong 15 and Th. intermedium. Genomic in situ hybridization(GISH) produced no hybridization signal in SN304 using Th. intermedium genomic DNA as a probe, but fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH) using oligonucleotides AFA-3, AFA-4, pAs1-1, pAs1-3, pAs1-4, pAs1-6, pSc119.2-1,and(GAA)10 as probes detected hybridization signals on chromosomes 2 A, 7 A, 2 B, 3 B, 6 B, and 7 B in SN304 that differed from Yannong 15. Results of specific markers also indicated that there were Th. intermedium chromatin introgressions on different chromosomes in SN304. In a hydroponic culture experiment, SN304 not only produced more biomass and higher stem and leaf dry weight but also accumulated more phosphorus than Yannong 15 under phosphorus-deficiency stress. Moreover, SN304 produced a lower pH and released more organic acids, especially oxalic acid, than Yannong 15, which suggests that SN304 exudates enabled more absorbance of P than Yannong 15 under comparable *** results indicate that SN304 is a wheat-Th. intermedium introgression line with tolerance to phosphorus-deficiency stress.

Plant height plays an important role in the potential and stability of crop yields and represents one of the most important agronomic traits of wheat. Although more than 30 dwarfing genes have been identified in wheat, only a few are used in wheat breeding, which has narrowed the genetic basis of newly developed varieties. Therefore, continually identifying new dwarfing genes is required to produce improved wheat cultivars. TA001 is a new germplasm line marked by reduced plant height and early maturation, and it was derived from a hybridization between the common wheat Yannong 15 and the Aegilops ventricosa × Aegilops cylindrica amphiploid SDAU18. In this study, cytological observations, agronomic trait examinations, genomic in situ hybridization(GISH), multicolor genomic in situ hybridization(mc-GISH), multicolor fluorescence in situ hybridization(mc-FISH), SSR analysis and seed storage protein electrophoresis were combined to determine the cytological stability, main agronomic traits, chromosomal constituents and seed storage protein subunits of TA001. Twenty-one bivalents were observed in most of the pollen mother cells at metaphase I(PMCs MI) in TA001, which housed 42 chromosomes, and the chromosomes in most pollen mother cells at anaphase I(PMCs AI)displayed 21/21 segregation. Twenty bivalents plus two univalents were simultaneously observed in most of the PMCs MI of the hybrid F_1 between TA001 and Yannong 15. TA001 possessed all chromosomes from genomes A, B and D except for chromosome 7B, which was replaced by one pair of N-genome chromosomes from Aegilops ventricosa. Several pairs of chromosomes in TA001 exhibited different FISH patterns from the equivalent chromosomes in Yannong 15. TA001 housed alien genetic materials from Aegilops ventricosa and Aegilops cylindrica and possessed new glutenin and gliadin subunits specific to SDAU18, as revealed by molecular marker analysis and protein electrophoresis respectively.

Recent advancements in wireless technology have tested Wireless Balloon Networks (WBNs) as an ideal solution for the provision of internet facilities in deprived and challenging areas. A few high profile companies, such as Google, Space Data Inc., etc., have already made news by initiating projects based on high-altitude WBNs in order to provide internet facilities in remote areas. Unfortunately, the technical details have mainly been kept confidential so far. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the percolation properties of large-scale WBNs, considering both homogenous and heterogenous wireless nodes. In order to do so, we modeled a WBN as a large-scale random network where the path-loss models of homogenous and heterogenous WBNs were reduced to GDM (Gilbert's Disk Model) and RGDM (Random Gilbert's Disk Model), respectively. The bounds of the critical density regime were derived for both percolation models. Additionally, this paper implemented an experimental test bed for the WBN percolation model. Consequently, the findings of this research may prove crucial in estimating critical network properties.

High quality image transmission through smart devices requires high transmission rate,throughput and low Bit Error Rate(BER). At the same time, energy efficiency is always the top issue for the battery-based smart devices such as smart phone, tablets, etc. In this paper,an adaptive Forward Error Correction(FEC) coding and cooperative relayed image transmission system is proposed, through which both transmission quality and energy efficiency could be promised under complex mobile communication channel environment. There are four steps in the proposed scheme:(1) Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) and wavelet based Decomposition,(2) Pixel-Position(PP) information and Pixel-Value(PV) information split based unequal image resource allocation,(3) transmission through channel fading and AWGN communication environment,(4) multiple-relays and adaptive channel coding. Comparing to traditional methods, our proposed method is more practical to transmit high quality images through battery-limited smart phone platforms.

This research work considers a scenario of cloud computing job-shop scheduling problems. We consider rn realtime jobs with various lengths and n machines with different computational speeds and costs. Each job has a deadline to be met, and the profit of processing a packet of a job differs from other jobs. Moreover, considered deadlines are either hard or soft and a penalty is applied if a deadline is missed where the penalty is considered as an exponential function of time. The scheduling problem has been formulated as a mixed integer non-linear programming problem whose objective is to maximize netprofit. The formulated problem is computationally hard and not solvable in deterministic polynomial time. This research work proposes an algorithm named the Tube-tap algorithm as a solution to this scheduling optimization problem. Extensive simulation shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing solutions in terms of maximizing net-profit and preserving deadlines.
