Synchronization in a frequency-weighted Kuramoto model with a uniform frequency distribution is studied. We plot the bifurcation diagram and identify the asymptotic coherent states. Numerical simulations show that the system undergoes two first-order transitions in both the forward and back- ward directions. Apart from the trivial phase-locked state, a novel nonstationary coherent state, i.e., a nontrivial standing wave state is observed and characterized. In this state, oscillators inside the coherent clusters are not frequency-locked as they would be in the usual standing wave state. Instead, their average frequencies are locked to a constant. The critical coupling strength from the incoherent state to the nontrivial standing wave state can be obtained by performing linear stability analysis. The theoretical results are supported by the numerical simulations.

In this work, we study the collective dynamics of phase oscillators in a mobile ad hoc network whose topology changes dynamically. As the network size or the communication radius of individual oscillators increases, the topology of the ad hoc network first undergoes percolation, forming a giant cluster, and then gradually achieves global connectivity. It is shown that oscillator mobility generally enhances the coherence in such networks. Interestingly, we find a new type of phase synchronization/clustering, in which the phases of the oscillators are distributed in a certain narrow range, while the instantaneous frequencies change signs frequently, leading to shuttle-run-like motion of the oscillators in phase space. We conduct a theoretical analysis to explain the mechanism of this synchronization and obtain the critical transition point.

We proposed a fast and temperature self-compensation method to detect streptomycin sulfate aqueous solution concentration based on a 2D Nb2CTXMXene nanosheets functionalized tilted Bragg grating(N-TFBG). The introduction of 2D Nb2CTXMXene nanosheets brought more than 100% increase in sensitivity and exhibited a high sensitivity of 253.8 pm/mg/mL and detection limit 80 μg/mL in range of 0.2-0.8 mg/mL. Due to high sensitivity and compact structure, N-TFBG sensor has a faster measure time than previous method; additionally, the sensor has simultaneous temperature measurement by detecting the cladding mode and the core mode resonance peak simultaneously. Our research will hopefully open a new research platform for online detection of streptomycin sulfate concentration.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation(ANAMMOX) is a recently developed process to treat ammonia-rich wastewater. There were numerous articles about the new technology with focus on the ammonium-rich wastewater treatment, but few on advanced municipal wastewater treatment. The paper studied the anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) process with a down flow anoxic biofilter for nitrogen removal from secondary clarifier effluent of municipal wastewater with low COD/N ratio. The results showed that ANAMMOX process is applicable to advanced wastewater treatment with normal temperature as well as ammonia-rich high temperature wastewater treatment. The results indicated that ammonia removal rate was improved by raising the nitrite concentration, and the reaction rate reached a climax at 118.4 mgN/L of the nitrite nitrogen concentration. If the concentration exceeds 118.4 mgN/L, the ANAMMOX process was significantly inhibited although the ANAMMOX bacteria still showed a relatively high reactivity. The data also indicated that the ratio of NO2^- -N:NH4 * -N = 1.3:1 in the influent was appropriate for excellent nitrogen removal. The pH increased gradually along the ANAMMOX biofilter reactor. When the ANAMMOX reaction was ended, the pH was tend to calm. The data suggested that the pH could be used as an indicator to describe the course of ANAMMOX reaction.

Constraint-induced movement therapy is an effective rehabilitative training technique used to improve the restoration of impaired upper extremity movement after stroke. However, whether constraint-induced movement therapy is more effective than conventional rehabilitation in acute or sub-acute stroke remains controversial. The aim of the present study was to identify the optimal time to start constraint-induced movement therapy after ischemic stroke and to explore the mechanisms by which constraint-induced movement therapy leads to post-stroke recovery. Sixty-four adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham-surgery group, cerebral ischemia/reperfusion group, early constraint-induced movement therapy group, and late constraint-induced movement therapy group. Rat models of left middle cerebral artery occlusion were established according to the Zea Longa line embolism method. Constraint-induced movement therapy was conducted starting on day 1 or day 14 in the early constraint-induced movement therapy and late constraint-induced movement therapy groups, respectively. To explore the effect of each intervention time on neuromotor function, behavioral function was assessed using a balance beam walking test before surgery and at 8 and 21 days after surgery. The expression levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor and Nogo receptor were evaluated using real time-polymerase chain reaction and western blot assay to assess the effect of each intervention time. The results showed that the behavioral score was significantly lower in the early constraint-induced movement therapy group than in the cerebral ischemia/reperfusion and late constraint-induced movement therapy groups at 8 days. At 21 days, the scores had significantly decreased in the early constraint-induced movement therapy and late constraint-induced movement therapy groups. Aim The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of the two clutches on recording the condylar movement. Methodology Ten subjects (6 women,4 men; mean age 25.4 years) participated in the study. The mandibular move-ment,sagittal condylar inclination angle,and transversal condylar inclination angle of each subject were recorded with the CADIAX? using the two clutches,respectively. The characteristics of the tracings of the protrusion,opening,and mediotrusion were analyzed with the t-test statistics at α = 0.05 level. The Kappa values were calculated for an assessment of the congruence of the tracings. Results The results showed that the contour,direction,and dimension of the tracings in the two clutches were approxi-mately same,but the tracings determined by the functional occlusal clutch were more regular and congruent. In the group segment recorded with the tray clutch,opening/ closing paths of one subject showed crossed and time curves of three subjects appeared peak-like changes of velocity,but none were statistically different (P0.05). Conclusion The research suggests that the functional occlusal clutch should be preferred in the evaluation of the mandibular function,as the tracings with the tray clutch are more likely to produce false positive results.

In the recent years, deep learning models have addressed many problems in various fields. Meanwhile, technology development has spawned the big data in healthcare rapidly. Nowadays, application of deep learning to solve the problems in healthcare is a hot research direction. This paper introduces the application of deep learning in healthcare extensively. We focus on 7 application areas of deep learning, which are electronic health records (EHR), electrocardiography (ECG), electroencephalogram (EEG), community healthcare, data from wearable devices, drug analysis and genomics analysis. The scope of this paper does not cover medical image processing since other researchers have already substantially reviewed it. In addition, we analyze the merits and drawbacks of the existing works, analyze the existing challenges, and discuss future trends.

The requirement of the fast three-dimensional radiation field calculation is raised during the decommissioning of large-scale nuclear installations. The most often used methods, such as the Monte Carlo and the discrete ordinates methods, have shortcomings in their simulations of such problems. The coupled Monte Carlo–point kernel computational scheme is developed to meet the requirement. The facility is separated into the source region and the bulk shielding region, with a common interface. The transport within the source region is simulated using the Monte Carlo method, which is by nature good at treating complex geometries. The radiation field in the bulk shielding region is treated by the point kernel approach to avoid the extremely expensive computation for deep penetration problems. The flow rate through the interface,which is given by the Monte Carlo simulation, is considered as the equivalent surface source for the point kernel calculation. Test calculations from simplified typical waste storage facilities have been performed to validate the coupled scheme by comparing them with the results conducted by the Monte Carlo method directly. The good agreement of the results, as well as the significant saving in computing time, indicates that the coupled method is suitable for the fast three-dimensional radiation field calculation.
