Titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))hollow nanoparticles present significant potential for photocatalytic applications while their straightforward preparation with precise structure control is still *** work reports the approach to preparing tunable hollow TiO_(2) nanospheres by utilization of spherical polyelectrolyte brushes(SPB)as nanoreactors and *** the preparation,the evolution of the structure was characterized by small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),and in combination with dynamic light scattering and transmission electron *** formation of TiO_(2) shell within the brush(SPB@TiO_(2))is confirmed by the significant increase of the electron density,and its internal structure has been analyzed by fitting SAXS data,which can be influenced by Titanium precursors and ammonia *** calcining SPB@TiO_(2) in a muffle furnace,hollow TiO_(2) nanospheres are produced,and their transition to the anatase crystal form is triggered,as confirmed by X-ray diffraction *** the advantages of their hollow structure,these TiO_(2) nanospheres exhibit exceptional catalytic degradation efficiency of methylene blue(MB),tetracycline(TC),and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D),and also demonstrate excellent recyclability.

Structural and Expressional Variations of the Mitochondrial Genome Conferring the Wild Abortive Type of Cytoplasmic Male Sterility in Rice

The so-called ＂wild abortive＂（WA） type of cytoplasmic male sterility （CMS） derived from a wild rice species Oryza rufipogon has been extensively used for hybrid rice breeding. However, extensive analysis of the structure of the related mitochondrial genome has not been reported, and the CMS-associated gene（s） remain unknown. In this study, we exploited a mitochondrial genome-wide strategy to examine the structural and expressional variations in the mitochondrial genome conferring the CMS. The entire mitochondriai genomes of a CMS-WA line and two normal fertile rice lines were amplified by Long-polymerase chain reaction into tilling fragments of up to 15.2 kb. Restriction and DNA blotting analyses of these fragments revealed that structural variations occurred in several regions in the WA mitochondrial genome, as compared to those of the fertile lines. All of the amplified fragments covering the entire mitochondrial genome were used as RNA blot probes to examine the mitochondriai expression profile among the CMS-WA and fertile lines. As a result, only two mRNAs were found to be differentially expressed between the CMS-WA and the fertile lines, which were detected by a probe containing the nad5 and orf153 genes and the other having the ribosomal protein gene rpl5, respectively. These mRNAs are proposed to be the candidates for further identification and functional studies of the CMS gene.

Heavy Metal Ions Removal by Nano-sized Spherical Polymer Brushes

Nano-sized spherical polymer brushes （SPBs） consisting of both a polystyrene （PS） core and a brush shell of poly（acrylic acid）（PAA）, poly（N-acrylcysteamine）（PSH）, or poly（N-acrylcysteamine-co-acrylic acid）（P（SH-co-AA））, were prepared by photo-emulsion polymerization. The core-shell structure was observed by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Due to the strengthened Donnan effect, the PAA brush can adsorb heavy metal ions. Effects of the contact time, thickness of PAA brush and pH value on the adsorption results were investigated. Due to the coordination between the mercapto groups and heavy metal ions as well as the electrostatic interactions, SPBs with mercapto groups are capable to remove heavy metal ions selectively from aqueous solutions. The order of adsorption capacity of the heavy metal ions by SPBs with mercapto groups is： Hg2＋ ≈ Au3＋〉 Pb2＋〉 CH2＋〉 Ni2＋. The adsorbed heavy metal ions can be eluted from SPB by aqueous HCI solution, and the SPBs can be recovered. After three regenerations the recovered SPBs still maintain their adsorption capacity.

以内蒙古土默特左旗塔布赛乡表层土壤、土柱剖面等样品为研究对象,测定了土壤硒形态、有效态、理化性质等指标,据此研究了土壤硒形态、有效态组成特征及其影响因素。结果表明,表层土壤硒形态主要以腐殖酸结合态、强有机结合态和残渣态为主;阳离子交换量(CEC)、有机质、磷、钾含量与腐殖酸结合态硒含量呈正相关,全量硒含量与腐殖酸结合态硒、铁锰氧化物结合态硒、强有机结合态硒、残渣态硒含量呈正相关,均表现为促进作用;硫含量与水溶态硒含量呈负相关,表现为抑制作用;由表层至深层,各形态硒含量具有由高趋低特征;有效硒含量与全量硒、有机结合态硒、水溶态硒含量呈正相关,与硫含量呈负相关性。研究区土壤中水溶态硒含量处于高硒等级状态,生物有效性处于较高水平,适合种植、开发富硒农产品。

Enhanced corrosion resistance of epoxy resin coating via addition of CeO_(2) and benzotriazole

The use of fillers to enhance the corrosion protection of epoxy resins has been widely *** this work,cerium dioxide(CeO_(2))and benzotriazole(BTA)were introduced into an epoxy resin to enhance the corrosion resistance of Q235 carbon *** electron microscopy results indicated that the CeO_(2) grains were rod-like and ellipsoidal in shape,and the distribution pattern of BTA was analyzed by energy dispersive *** dynamic potential polarization curve proved the excellent corrosion resistance of the composite epoxy resin with CeO_(2) and BTA co-addition,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy test analysis indicated the significantly enhanced long-term corrosion protection performance of the composite *** the optimal protective performance was provided by the coating containing 0.3%(mass)CeO_(2) and 20%(mass)BTA,which was attributed to the barrier performance of CeO_(2) particles and the chemical barrier effect of *** formation of corrosion products was analyzed using X-ray *** addition,the corrosion resistance mechanism of the coating was also discussed in detail.

Analysis of Spherical Polyelectrolyte Brushes by Small Angle X-ray Scattering

Spherical polyelectrolyte brushes （SPBs） with PS core and poly（acrylic acid）（PAA） brushes were prepared and analyzed by SAXS in this article. A radial electron density profile of SPB was brought up, which fits well with the SAXS result and shows a core-shell structure. The effect of pH on SPB form was represented by SAXS and it proves that the chains of SPB will stretch in response to increased pH owning to the increased electrostatic repulsion. SPBs immobilized with magnetic nanoparticles or bovine serum albumin （BSA） were prepared and analyzed by SAXS as well. SAXS could characterize the changes of electron density inside brushes of SPBs due to the immobilization of magnetic nanoparticles or BSA. This provides significant supports for further application of immobilized metal nanoparticles or proteins.

Synthesis of Self-assemble pH-responsive Cyclodextrin Block Copolymer for Sustained Anticancer Drug Delivery

Well-defined pH-responsive poly（e-caprolactone）-graft-β-cyclodextrin-graft-poly（2-（dimethylamino）ethyl- methacrylate）-co-poly（ethylene glycol） methacrylate amphiphilic copolymers （PCL-g-β-CD-g-P（DMAEMA-co-PEGMA）） were synthesized using a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization （ATRP）, ring opening polymerization （ROP） and ＂click＂ chemistry. Successful synthesis of polymers was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, proton nuclear magnetic resonance （^1H-NMR）, and gel permeation chromatography （GPC）. Then, the polymers could self- assemble into micelles in aqueous solution, which was demonstrated by dynamic light scattering （DLS） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. The pH-responsive self-assembly behavior of these copolymers in water was investigated at different pH values of 7.4 and 5.0 for controlled doxorubicin （DOX） release, and these results revealed that the release rate of DOX could be effectively controlled by altering the pH, and the release of drug loading efficiency （DLE） was up to 88% （W/W）. CCK-8 assays showed that the copolymers had low toxicity and possessed good biodegradability and biocompatibility, whereas the DOX-loaded micelles remained with high cytotoxicity for HeLa cells. Moreover, confocal laser scanning microscopy （CLSM） images revealed that polymeric micelles could actively target the tumor site and the efficient intracellular DOX release from polymeric micelles toward the tumor cells further confirmed the anti-tumor effect. The DOX-loaded micelles could easily enter the cells and produce the desired pharmacological action and minimize the side effect of free DOX. These results successfully indicated that pH-responsive polymeric micelles could be potential hydrophobic drug delivery carriers for cancer targeting therapy with sustained release.

Cationic liposome-mediated transfection of CD40 ligand gene inhibits hepatic tumor growth of hepatocellular carcinoma in mice

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of cationic liposome-mediated CD40 ligand (CD40L) gene therapy for hepato- cellular carcinoma. Methods: 1×106 of parental H22 cells or H22 cells transfected with the expression vector containing murine CD40L cDNA encoding the entire coding region (pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L) were inoculated subcutaneously into the left flanks of syngenic BALB/C mice. The tumor-bearing mice (tumor nodules 10 mm in maximal diameter) received the treatment of the intratumoral injection of pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L/Transfectam, pcDNA3.1+, or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), or no treatment. The mice were monitored for tumor growth weekly. We examined mCD40L messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the histologic changes in tumors at two weeks after intratumoral injection using immunohistochemical staining of tumor tissues. Results: All mice inoculated with parental H22 cells developed a tumor subcutaneously, and the tumor size increased progressively within three weeks. However, the mice receiving H22-CD40L cells exhibited complete regression of the tumor two weeks after tumor cell inoculation. The tumor-bearing animals with the treatment of pcDNA3.1+ or PBS, or without treatment had progressive tumor growth, while those mice treated with pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L exhibited a significant inhibition of tumor growth. RT-PCR analysis showed that 783-bp fragments cor- responding to the mCD40L mRNA were amplified only from pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L treated tumors. The tumor samples from pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L-treated mice showed significant lymphocyte infiltration, apoptotic bodies, and confluent necrosis in the tumor tissues. Conclusion: The tumorigenicity of CD40L-expressing cells was abrogated when the cells were implanted subcu- taneously. In vivo gene therapy of established liver tumor nodules in mice by the intratumoral injection of pcDNA3.1+-mCD40L led to significant tumor inhibition. There was mCD40L mRNA expression in the

Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci for Grain Appearance and Milling Quality Using a Doubled-Haploid Rice Population

Improving grain quality, which is composed primarily of the appearance of the grain and its cooking and milling attributes, is a major objective of many rice-producing areas in China. In the present study, we conducted a marker-based genetic analysis of the appearance and milling quality of rice （Oryza sativa L.） grains using a doubled-haploid population derived from a cross between the indica inbred Zhenshan 97 strain and the japonica inbred Wuyujing 2 strain. Quantitative trait locus （QTL） analysis using a mixed linear model approach revealed that the traits investigated were affected by one to seven QTLs that individually explained 4.0%-30.7% of the phenotypic variation. Cumulatively, the QTL for each trait explained from 12.9% to 61.4% of the phenotypic variation. Some QTLs tended to have a pleiotropic or location-linked association as a cause of the observed phenotypic correlations between different traits. Improvement of the characteristics of grain appearance and grain weight, as well as an improvement in the milling quality of rice grains, would be expected by a recombination of different QTLs using marker-assisted selection.
