Neuropsychiatric disorders represent a set of severe and complex mental illnesses,and the exact etiologies of which are unknown.It has been well documented that impairments in the early development of the brain contribute to the pathogenesis of many neuropsychiatric disorders.Currently,the diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disorders largely relies on subjective cognitive assessment,because there are no widely accepted biochemical or genetic biomarkers for diagnosing mental illness.Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel class of endogenous non-coding RNA (ncRNA) with a closed-loop structure.In recent years,there have been tremendous advances in our understanding of the expression profiles and biological roles of circRNAs.In the brain,circRNAs are particularly enriched and are expressed more abundantly in contrast to linear counterpart transcripts.They are highly active at neuronal synapses.These features make circRNAs uniquely crucial for understanding brain health,disease,and neuropsychiatric disorders.This review focuses on the role of circRNAs in early brain development and other brain-related processes that have been associated with the development of neuropsychiatric disorders.In addition,we discuss the potential for blood or cerebrospinal fluid circRNAs to be used as novel biomarkers in the early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disorders.The findings reviewed here may provide new insight into the pathological mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of neuropsychiatric disorders.

To the Editor： In the previous two decades, increasing numbers of studies have used magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） techniques to investigate the brain characteristics of schizophrenia. These studies have produced important and useful achievements and enhanced our understanding of the mechanisms of schizophrenia from neural perspectives. We hope that in the future, researchers will discover additional milestone findings in this field to relieve the current bottleneck with respect to accurately determining the mechanisms of schizophrenia and identifying precise treatment targets or this disease, which is associated with high disability and mortality.

To the Editor: Auditory verbal hallucination (AVH) is defined as the hearing of voices in the absence of any external auditory stimulus.[1,2,3] Most AVH content is related to the experiencer, and these events usually cause serious distress. AVHs can occur in patients with a broad range of mental disorders and neurological diseases, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (BP), major depressive disorder (MDD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), and in healthy individuals.[2,3,4]

Background： This study aimed to observe the differences in brain gray matter volume in drug-naive female patients after the first episode of major depression with and without stressful life events （SLEs） before the onset of depression.Methods： Forty-three drug-naive female patients voluntarily participated in the present study after the first major depressive episode.The life event scale was used to evaluate the severity of the impact of SLEs during 6 months before the onset of the major depressive episode.High-field magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） scans were obtained, and the VBM and SPM8 software process were used to process and analyze the MRI.Results： Compared to that in patients without SLEs, the volume of brain gray matter was lower in the bilateral temporal lobe, right occipital lobe, and right limbic lobe in the SLE group.However, the gray matter volume did not differ significantly between the two groups after the application of false discovery rate （FDR） correction.Conclusions： Although the results of the present study suggest the absence of significant differences in brain gray matter volume between female drug-naive patients after the first episode of major depression with and without SLEs after FDR correction, the study provides useful information for exploring the definitive role of stress in the onset of depression.

High-entropy oxide-supported platinum nanoparticles for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction

High-entropy oxides（HEOs） are a new class of single-phase structures with unique electronic and catalytic properties;therefore,it is worthwhile to explore their applications in electrocatalysis.In this study,a Pt/（FeCoNiCrAl）3O4nanohybrid using HEO as a support was developed as an efficient catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction（HER）.Pt/（FeCoNiCrAl）3O4exhibited high HER activity with a low overpotential of 22 mV at10 mA·cm-2,outperforming other binary,ternary,and quaternary supports.The HER activity of Pt/（FeCoNiCrAl）3O4was higher than that of a commercial Pt/C with a significantly lower Pt loading.The catalyst exhibited good activity and long-term stability（60 h） in an electrolytic water-splitting device.This good activity can be attributed to the fact that the introduction of Pt effectively facilitates electronic interactions between Pt and the HEO.In addition,the HEO substrate was more favorable for dispersing Pt particles,optimizing the electrochemical specific surface area,and significantly reducing the charge resistance of the HER.This study extends the application of HEOs in electrocatalysis and demonstrates the promising prospects of HEOs as supports for electrocatalysts.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicines(CHMs)combined with chemical drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease(AD).Materials and Methods:Databases were searched to retrieve randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of CHMs combined with tacrine,galantamine,rivastigmine,donepezil,or memantine,following strict inclusion and exclusion criteria.Only research papers published in English,Chinese,and Japanese were considered.The primary outcome was the mini-mental state examination(MMSE)score and the secondary outcomes were AD assessment scale cognitive subscale(ADAS-Cog)score and safety evaluation.Meta-analysis was carried out using Rev Man 5.3 and subgroup analysis was conducted to identify the sources of heterogeneity.Results:A total of 15 RCTs with 1386 participants were included in this study.Only donepezil was used in the retrieved literature.Meta-analyses showed that the combination of CHMs with donepezil led to significant improvement in the MMSE score(Z=9.45;P<0.00001;weighted mean difference[WMD]=2.68,95%confidence interval[CI]:2.12-3.24)and a significant decrease in the ADAS-Cog score(Z=5.53;P<0.00001;WMD=-3.79;95%CI:-5.13--2.44).Safety evaluation demonstrated that these combination treatments relieved adverse events such as insomnia(risk ratio[RR]=0.20,95%CI:0.06-0.68;P=0.01)and hive(RR=0.10;95%CI:0.01-0.73;P=0.02).Conclusions:The combination of CHMs with a chemical drug like donepezil led to significant improvements in patient cognition as well as a better safety profile when compared to the application of a chemical drug alone.

New method for multibody dynamics based on unknown constraint force

This paper presents a new method for the dynamics of multibody systems based on unknown constraint force. The method can uniformly solve multibody systems with typical configurations, including the system with rigid-flexible coupling, the system in tree topology, and the system with loop constraints. Unlike common methods, the proposed method can model the loop system without “cutting off” loop constraints, leading to the exact same modelling process as the tree-like system performs. Based on graph theory, a topological record matrix M_(rec) is proposed to capture the arbitrary system configuration. Moreover, constraint forces are selected as the key variables in semi-recursive framework. With the recursive kinematics relationship between adjacent bodies, the constraint force equation is further assembled to achieve the full-state system solution. The numerical simulations demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.

The occurrence characteristics of shale oil are of great significance to the movability of shale oil.In this study,the occurrence characteristics of oil in the shale matrix at Funing Formation shale in Subei Basin were quantitatively evaluated by organic geochemistry and microscopic pore structure characterization experiments.The Multiple Isothermal Stages Pyrolysis(MIS)experiment results show that the content of total oil,adsorbed oil,and free oil in the shales are 3.15-11.25 mg/g,1.41-4.95 mg/g,and 1.74-6.51 mg/g,respectively.among which the silicon-rich shale has the best oil-bearing.The relative content of free oil shows an increasing trend in pores with pore diameters greater than 3 nm.When the relative content of free oil reaches 100%,the pore size of silicon-rich shale is about 200 nm,while that of calcium-rich shale,clay-rich shale,and siliceous mixed shale is about 10 nm.The occurrence law of adsorbed oil is opposite to that of free oil,which indicates that shale oil will occur in the pores and fractures in a free state in a more extensive pore size range(>200 nm).This study also enables us to further understand the occurrence characteristics of shale oil under the interaction of occurrence state and occurrence space.

Mass transfer in heap leaching of weathered crust elution deposited rare earth ore with Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solution

In order to increase efficiency and avoid NH^(4+)-N pollution in the leaching process of weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ores,the mass transfer in heap leaching with Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solution was simulated with column elution and experimentally optimized.The results indicate that the leaching yield is also up to 99%for leaching with aluminum sulfate instead of ammonium sulfate.The optimal flow rate is 60 mL/h,the height equivalent to a theoretical plate(HETP)is 1.29 mm correspondingly.The peak value position of RE^(3+)is 60 mL/h,Fe^(3+)is 100 mL/h,however,Al^(3+)is 150 mL/h,and the heap leaching process has kinetic separation effect.

Predictive performance of the variation rate of the driving pressure on the outcome of invasive mechanical ventilation in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome

Purpose:To assess the value of the driving pressure variation rate(ΔP%)in predicting the outcome of weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.Methods:In this case-control study,a total of 35 patients with moderate-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome were admitted to the intensive care unit between January 2022 and December 2022 and received invasive mechanical ventilation for at least 48 h were enrolled.Patients were divided into successful weaning group and failed weaning group depending on whether they could be removed from ventilator support within 14 days.Outcome measures including driving pressure,PaO2:FiO2,and positive end-expiratory pressure,etc.were assessed every 24 h from day 0 to day 14 until successful weaning was achieved.The measurement data of non-normal distribution were presented as median(Q1,Q3),and the differences between groups were compared by Wilcoxon rank sum test.And categorical data use the Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test to compare.The predictive value ofΔP%in predicting the outcome of weaning from the ventilator was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curves.Results:Of the total 35 patients included in the study,17 were successful vs.18 failed in weaning from a ventilator after 14 days of mechanical ventilation.The cut-off values of the medianΔP%measured by Operator 1 vs.Operator 2 in the first 4 days were≥4.17%and 4.55%,respectively(p<0.001),with the area under curve of 0.804(sensitivity of 88.2%,specificity of 64.7%)and 0.770(sensitivity of 88.2%,specificity of 64.7%),respectively.There was a significant difference in mechanical ventilation duration between the successful weaning group and the failure weaning group(8(6,13)vs.12(7.5,17.3),p=0.043).The incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia in the successful weaning group was significantly lower than in the failed weaning group(0.2‰vs.2.3‰,p=0.001).There was a significant difference noted between these 2 groups in the 28-day mortality(11.8%vs.66.7%,
