Appetite for Natech Risk Information in Japan:Understanding Citizens'Communicative Behavior Towards Risk Information Disclosure Around Osaka Bay

Effective risk communication is essential for disaster risk *** from empowering communities to make informed risk choices,risk information disclosure can also drastically enhance their disaster preparedness,especially concerning conjoint scenarios of technological and natural hazards(Natech).A fundamental precondition is the actual demand for such *** study ventures to assess whether residents around Osaka Bay have this demand,or"appetite,"for risk information disclosure,as well as to understand their communicative behavior and perceived challenges in the Japanese context through the prism of the Situational Theory of Problem *** test this framework under realistic conditions,data were collected through a household questionnaire survey from two urban areas near industrial complexes in Osaka *** results show that identifying Natech risk information deficiency as a problem was not a statistically significant predictor for individuals'motivation to ***,their motivation increased as their perceived personal involvement with the situation rose,while the perceived obstacles in doing something about it exerted a negative influence on their ***'motivation intensified their communicative actions to solve this *** segmentation underscored the elevated public perceptions concerning the issue of risk information deficiency in nearly nine out of ten *** findings indicate a strong community appetite for chemical and Natech risk information,which subsequently led to high situational motivation to engage in communicative action,particularly information *** management policy is suggested to focus on introducing chemical risk information disclosure regulatory initiatives to encourage citizen engagement.

Spatio-temporal variability in sea surface wind stress near and off the east coast of Korea

Sea surface wind stress variabilities near and off the east coast of Korea, are examined using 7 kinds of wind datasets from measurements at 2 coastal (land) stations and 2 ocean buoys,satellite scatterometer (QuikSCAT), and global reanalyzed products (ECMWF,NOGAPS,and NCEP/NCAR). Temporal variabilities are analyzed at 3 frequency bands; synoptic (2-20 d), intra-seasonal (20-90 d),and seasonal (>90 d).Synoptic and intra-seasonal variations are predominant near and off the Donghae City due to the passage of the mesoscale weather system. Seasonal variation is caused by southeastward wind stress during Asian winter monsoon. The sea surface wind stress from reanalyzed *** and KMA-B measurements off the coast show good agreement in the magnitude and direction,which are strongly aligned with the alongshore *** the land-based sites,wind stresses are much weaker by factors of 3-10 due to the mountainous landmass on the east parts of Korea *** first EOF modes(67%-70%) of wind stresses from reanalyzed and QuikSCAT data have similar structures of the strong southeastward wind stress in winter along the coast but show different curl structures at scales less than 200 km due to the orographic *** second EOF modes (23%-25%) show southwestward wind stress in every September along the east coast of the North Korea

Nondestructive Skeletal Imaging of Hyla suweonensis Using Micro-Computed Tomography

We successfully obtained 3D skeletal images of Hyla suweonensis, employing a nondestructive method by applying appropriate anesthesia and limiting the radiation dose. H. suweonensis is a tree frog endemic to Korea and is on the list of endangered species. Previous studies have employed caliper-based measurements and two-dimensional （2D） X-ray imaging for anatomical analyses of the skeletal system or bone types of H. suweonensis. In this work we reconstructed three-dimensional （3D） skeletal images of H. suweonensis, utilizing a nondestructive micro-computed tomography （micro-CT） with a short scan and low radiation dose （i.e. 4 min and 0.16 Gy）. Importantly, our approach can be applied to the imaging of 3D skeletal systems of other endangered frog species, allowing both versatile and high contrast images of anatomical structures without causing any significant damages to the living animal.

Senescence is a developmental process in the life cycle of a plant or a plant organ which has an intrinsic link with longevity. In human and animal sciences, the question of what controls the length of life is a fundamental biological query which has been puzzling scientists for centuries. Plant senescence is an even more complicated topic, since plants have many life-forms which differ greatly in their maximal life-spans. On the applied side, plant senescence has a great impact on landscape, agriculture, and our daily lives, being tightly linked to crop yield and quality as well as biomass production and bio-energy development, which are of increasing concern in the current age of climate change and parallel population growth.

A NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE BLOOD FLOW AROUND THE BILEAFLET MECHANICAL HEART VALVES WITH DIFFERENT ROTATIONAL IMPLANTATION ANGLES

The effects of implantation angles of Bileaflet Mechanical Heart Valves （BMHVs） on the blood flow and the leaflet motion are investigated in this paper. The physiological blood flow interacting with the moving leaflets of a BMHV is simulated with a strongly coupled implicit Fluid-Structure Interaction （FSI） method based on the Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian （ALE） approach and the dynamic mesh method （remeshing） in Fluent. BMHVs are widely used to be implanted to replace the diseased heart valves, but the patients would suffer from some complications such as hemolysis, platelet activation, tissue overgrowth and device failure. These complications are closely related to both the flow characteristics near the valves and the leaflet dynamics. The current numerical model is validated against a previous experimental study. The numerical results show that as the rotation angle of BMHV is increased the degree of asymmetry of the blood flow and the leaflet motion is increased, which may lead to an unbalanced force acting on the BMHVs. This study shows the applicability of the FSI model for the interaction between the blood flow and the leaflet motion in BMHVs.

Comparison of gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel and FOLFIRINOX in metastatic pancreatic cancer

BACKGROUND Gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel(GA)and modified FOLFIRINOX(FFX)have been widely used as standard first-line treatment in pancreatic ***,it is unclear which regimen is more *** To evaluate a retrospective analysis comparing the efficacy and safety of FFX and GA as first-line chemotherapeutic regimens in patients with metastatic pancreatic *** We retrospectively analyzed and compared outcomes in 101 patients who presented with pancreatic cancer and were treated with either GA(n=54)or FFX(n=47).Moreover,we performed subgroup analysis based on the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG)performance *** There were no significant differences between two groups in baseline characteristics,except for the ECOG performance *** median progression-free survival(PFS)(6.43 mo vs 4.90 mo,P=0.058)was comparable between two groups;however,median overall survival(OS)(10.17 mo vs 6.93 mo,P=0.008)was longer in patients who received GA *** patients with ECOG 0(PFS:8.93 mo vs 5.43 mo,P=0.002;OS:16.10 mo vs 6.97 mo,P=0.000)and those with NLR<3(PFS:8.10 mo vs 6.57 mo,P=0.008;OS:12.87 mo vs 9.93 mo,P=0.002),GA regimen showed higher *** GA regimen may be recommended to the patients with NLR<3 or ECOG 0 status although GA and FFX showed comparable efficacy outcomes in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Surgical treatment of liver metastasis with uveal melanoma:A case report

BACKGROUND Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignant tumor affecting the eyes in *** half of all primary uveal melanoma tumors metastasize;yet,there are currently no effective treatments for metastatic uveal *** the time of diagnosis,less than 4%of patients with uveal melanoma have detectable metastatic *** melanoma disseminates hematogenously,with the most common site of metastasis being liver(93%),followed by lung(24%)and bone(16%).CASE SUMMARY A 57-year-old woman was diagnosed with a dysplastic nevus on her eyelid,which was histologically confirmed as malignant melanoma after *** patient had no evidence of metastasis to other organs and received both radiation therapy and *** systemic treatment,a metastatic left neck lymph node was found and another round of chemotherapy was performed after *** emission tomography-Computed Tomography tracking after completion of chemotherapy revealed two metastatic liver *** patient underwent partial liver resection and showed no signs of recurrence at 1 year after *** Surgery is an effective treatment for metastatic uveal *** patients with liver metastatic lesions,hepatectomy improves outcome.

First-line chemotherapy in very elderly patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer:Gemcitabine monotherapy vs combination chemotherapy

Effects of PWHT on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Weld Metals of Ni-Based Superalloy 617 and 263 for Hyper-Supercritical Power Plants

It is well known that solid solution-strengthened alloy 617 and γ′ precipitation-strengthened alloy 263 have excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. Hyper-supercritical power plants work at temperatures above 700 ℃, and these superalloys are considered candidate materials for steam turbines components of these power plants. In this study, gas tungsten arc weldability of these superalloys was evaluated, and the effects of post- weld heat treatment （PWHT） on the microstructural characteristics and the mechanical properties of their weld metals were investigated. Scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy and electron probe microanalysis were utilized for the investigation. The experimental results confirmed that these weld metals had different characteristics in microstructure and mechanical properties. PWHT resulted in the precipitation of intergranular carbides, γ′ particles and an increase in tensile strength of these superalloy weld metals. Furthermore, fine γ′ particles, which were not detected in the as-welded metal of alloy 263, were precipitated after PWHT and those particles were the reason for the drastic increase in tensile strength.
