Evaluation of th. Quality for th. Egyptian Red Sea Coastal Waters during 2011-2013

To assess th. quality of th. Egyptian Red Sea coastal waters for th. sustainable use and development, due to its importance for th. national income, four field campaigns were annually carried out during th. period from 2011-2013 to investigate th. h.drograph., nutrient salts, h.avy metals and petroleum h.drocarbons. Except for th. area of Bir Sh.latein, th. results of beach.litter cleared out th.t th. sh.reline of th. studied area is not affected by man-made litter. No sewage could be observed. Th. results of th. present study sh.wed th.t water temperature followed seasonal ch.nges in air temperature. Red Sea water is more saline th.n adjacent Arabian Sea. DO revealed h.gh.values and presence of well oxygenated waters. Minor ch.nges in th. distribution of ph. BOD, DOM and COD, revealed th.t limited effects of h.man impacts and depend mainly on th. dynamics of its water as well as on th. geograph.cal location. Low Ch.-a and TSM concentrations and h.gh.transparency revealed th.t also th. effect of h.man impacts is almost negligible. Significantly h.gh.r sea water temperatures, TSM, ph. DO, BOD, DOM, and COD were observed in summer season compared to th.ir corresponding values in winter season. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen concentrations were quite low because th.re is little nutrient input from soil, agriculture and pollution on land. Based on th. annual mean values, th. pattern concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen forms followed th. order: NO3 > Nh.sub>4 > NO2. Th. Red Sea coastal waters are classified as oligotroph.c to mesotroph.c state. A remarkable increase of PO4 concentration was observed in th. middle Red Sea stations due to h.ge amounts of effluents enrich.d with.ph.sph.te from th. main sh.pping and industry of Ph.sph.te Companies. Th. coastal region of th. Suez Gulf, is one of th. most densely industrialized zones in Egypt. In order to assess th. quality of Suez Gulf coastal waters for th. sustainable use and development, and consequently for th. national income, 12 field campaigns were carried out in 3 years (2011-2013). Th. results of beach.litter cleared out th.t th. sh.reline of th. Suez Gulf, especially Ras Gh.rib area was subjected to many factors wh.ch.undoubtedly affected th. rate of man-made litter accumulation. Th. most abundant visible items were general litter as th.y represented 30.64% of th. total items encountered. Oil, seaweeds as well as old and new tar constituted 15.41%, 14.85% and 11.84%, respectively. Th. increase on th. levels of water temperature, Ch.-a, TSM, DO, BOD, DOM, COD, ammonium ion, nitrite, nitrate, total ph.sph.rus, silicate and total nitrogen developed a eutroph.c region. In general, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) species were almost 9 times h.gh.r in th. north.rn parts compared to th. south.ern ones revealing th.t th. north.rn parts of th. Gulf were more affected by h.man impacts compared to th. south.rn area. Moreover, concentrations of most studied metals such.as Zn, Mn, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb, and h. were h.gh.r in North.rn parts com-pared to south.rn parts of th. Gulf. Th. concentrations of dissolved metals in th. north.rn and south.rn Suez Gulf followed th. following order: Fe ≥ Zn ≥ Cu > Pb > Mn > Ni > Cr > Cd ≥ h.. Except for h., concentrations of metals were in th. accepta-ble ranges recommended internationally. h. concentrations especially in th. north.rn Suez Gulf were sligh.ly h.gh.r th.n th. permissible levels. As th. north.rn parts of th. Gulf were more suffered from oil pollution, total petroleum h.drocarbons revealed h.gh.r concentrations in th. north.rn parts compared to th. south.rn parts of th. Gulf. Seasonal variations, on th. oth.r h.nd, indicated h.gh.r levels of DO, BOD, DOM and COD, ch.oropyll-a, TSM, ammonia, nitrate, total nitrogen

Effect of nanotech.ology on h.avy metal removal from aqueous solution

Th. effect of nanotech.ology on cadmium and zinc removal from aqueous solution was investigated. In order to ch.racterize micro and nano ph.agmites australis adsorbent, we analyzed th. data via FTIR, SEM, PSA, and EDX. Th. effect of various parameters such.as p h. contact time, amount of adsorbent and initial concentration, was investigated. Th. optimum p h.for th. removal of cadmium for micro and nano ph.agmites australis adsorbent was 7, and for th. removal of zinc by th. micro adsorbent was 7 and by nano adsorbent was 6. Th. equilibrium time of zinc was 90 min and for th. adsorption of cadmium by micro and nano adsorbent were 90 and 30 min, respectively. Th. optimum dose of micro adsorbent for th. removal of cadmium was 0.7 g, and th. oth.r dose for th. removal of zinc and cadmium was 0.5 g. Th. evaluation of adsorbent's distribution coefficient sh.wed th.t th. h.gh.st rates of distribution coefficient with.initial concentration of 5, 10, 30, and 50 mg/L were 394.83, 587.62, 759.39 and 1101.52 L/kg, respectively, wh.ch.were observed in nano adsorbent. Desorption experiments for th. nano adsorbent in th.ee cycles were done. Among kinetics models, our experimental data were more consistent with.h.o kinetic model and for isoth.rm models, Freundlich.isoth.rm was more consistent. Th. results sh.w th.t nanotech.ology could increase th. performance of adsorbents and enh.nce th. efficiency of th. adsorption of cadmium and zinc ions.

Egyptian h.avy vacuum gas oil h.drotreating over Co-Mo/CNT and Co-Mo/γ-Al2O3 catalysts

Th. catalytic activity of CoMoS /CNT towards th. Egyptian h.avy vacuum gas oil h.drotreating was studied. Th. delivered CNT was functionalized with.6 mol /L h.O_3. Th. CNT were loaded with.12% MoO_3( by weigh.) and 0.7 Co /Mo atomic ratio with.impregnation meth.ds. Th. γ-Al_2O_3 catalyst was also prepared by impregnation meth.d to compare both.catalysts *** analysis tools such.XRD,Raman spectroscopy,TEM,and BET were used to ch.racterize th. catalysts. Th. autoclave reactor was used to operate th. h.drotreating experiments. Th. h.drotreating reactions were tested at various operating conditions of temperature 325-375 ℃,pressure 2-6 MPa,time 2-6 h.and catalyst /oil ratio( by weigh.) of 1 ∶75,1 ∶33 and 1 ∶10. Th. results revealed th.t th. CoMoS /CNT was h.gh.y efficient for th. h.drotreating more th.n th. CoMoS /γ-Al_2O_3. Also, th. h.drodesulfurization( h.S) increased with.increasing catalyst /oil ratio. Additionally,results sh.wed th.t th. optimum condition was temperature 350℃,pressure 4 MPa,catalyst /oil ratio of 1 ∶75 for 2 h. Furth.rmore,even at low CoMoS /CNT catalyst /oil ratio of 1 ∶75,an acceptable h.S of 77.1% was ach.eved.

Selenium sulfide(SeS2)cath.des h.ve attracted much.concern as an optimized ch.ice comparing to sulfur and selenium for lith.um and sodium ***,it also suffers from poor cycling stability due to th. dissolution of reaction intermediate *** th.s study,N-doped Interconnected carbon aerogels was applied as an efficient SeS2 h.st by infiltrating selenium sulfide into its microporous structure(denoted as SeS2@NCAs),wh.ch.could effectively accommodate th. volume ch.nge of SeS2 during cycling and alleviate th. dissolution of reaction intermediate ***,as for Na storage,th. SeS2@NCAs cath.de delivers a superior long-term cycling performance of 536 mA·h.g^-1 at a current density of 0.5 A·g^-1 after 1,000 cycles with.only 0.04%capacity decline per cycle and a h.gh.rate performance(524 mA·h.g^-1 at 2 A·g^-1 and 745 mA·h.g^-1 at 0.1 A·g^-1 retained),indicating th. remarkable cycling stability of SeS2@NCAs cath.des.

Evaluation of Wash.ngton Navel Orange Economic Indicators

In Egypt, oranges are th. most important citrus crops for local consumption or export. It represents approximately 72.2% of th. total Egyptian citrus production in 2019/2020. Th. main cultivated variety of orange is th. Wash.ngton navel orange and it is more popular because of its delicious taste, nutrition, and its seedless besides being rich.in vitamin C. Wash.ngton navel orange is susceptible to fruit cracking, and it is a common ph.siological disorder th.t takes place during fruit development. Th.s work aims to investigate th. negative effect of fruit cracking in reducing th. yield and quality of Wash.ngton navel orange produced in Egypt by studying major economic indicators and estimating an economical evaluation of using treatment of Wash.ngton navel orange during th. period time of 2007/2008 until 2019/2020. Results sh.wed th.t fruit areas and production of Wash.ngton navel orange represented about 52.9% and 53.2% of fruit areas and production of orange during th. study period. h.wever, th. yield was unstable with.a significant annual growth.rate of about 1.1%. Also, th. last mentioned treatment ach.eved a h.gh.price for farmers by about 5.1% and total revenue of about 3.2% during th. study period. Nowadays, Egypt h.s become th. largest exporter of oranges in th. world with.n th. last year and th. ach.eved earnings reach.d $661 million in 2019/2020. In addition, results sh.wed th.t evaluation of using a treatment to reduce th. rate of Wash.ngton navel orange cracking was economical to be applied.
