Prevalence, risk factors, and BRAF mutation of colorectal sessile serrated lesions among Vietnamese patients

BACKGROUND Sessile serrated lesions(SSLs)are considered precancerous colorectal lesions that should be detected and removed to prevent colorectal cancer.Previous studies in Vietnam mainly investigated the adenoma pathway,with limited data on the serrated pathway.AIM To evaluate the prevalence,risk factors,and BRAF mutations of SSLs in the Vietnamese population.METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted on patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms who underwent colonoscopy at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam.SSLs were diagnosed on histopathology according to the 2019 World Health Organi-zation classification.BRAF mutation analysis was performed using the Sanger DNA sequencing method.The multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine SSL-associated factors.RESULTS There were 2489 patients,with a mean age of 52.1±13.1 and a female-to-male ratio of 1:1.1.The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%[95%confidence interval(CI):3.5-5.1].In the multivariate analysis,factors significantly associated with SSLs were age≥40[odds ratio(OR):3.303;95%CI:1.607-6.790],male sex(OR:2.032;95%CI:1.204-3.429),diabetes mellitus(OR:2.721;95%CI:1.551-4.772),and hypertension(OR:1.650,95%CI:1.045-2.605).The rate of BRAF mutations in SSLs was 35.5%.CONCLUSION The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%.BRAF mutations were present in one-third of SSLs.Significant risk factors for SSLs included age≥40,male sex,diabetes mellitus,and hypertension.

Objective:To investigate the inhibited effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate(EGCG)on the expression of NPM1 in IMS-M2 cells harboring the NPMl mutations.Methods:Cell proliferation assay was performed to test the effects of EGCG on eell growth of IMS-M2 cells harboring the NPM1 mutations.Western blot analysis were performed to test the protein expression of NPM1,AKT,those associated with apoplosis.Results:EGCG can down-regulate the expression of NPM1 in IMS-M2 cells harboring the NPM1mutations.Moreover,EGCG also suppressed the cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in IMSM2 cells.Conclusions:The results suggested that EGCG could be considered as a reagent for treatment of AML patients with NPM1 mutations.

Wedelolactone from Eclipta prostrata(L)L.suppresses inflammation and improves insulin resistance

Objective:To evaluate the effects of wedelolactone,a major flavonoid from Vietnamese Eclipta prostrata(L)L.,on inflammation and insulin resistance.Methods:Wedelolactone was extracted from the leaves of Vietnamese Eclipta prostrata(L.)L.with methanol by Soxhlet.The effects of wedelolactone on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced cytokine production,reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation,and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase activities in Raw 264.7 cells were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),specific immunofluorescent dyes and luminometric analysis,respectively.In addition,its effects on glucose uptake and the protein expression of insulin receptor substrate 1(IRS1)and glucose transporter 4(GLUT4)were examined in 3T3-L1 cells by immunofluorescent dyes and Western blot.Results:Wedelolactone at 30μg/mL significantly inhibited LPS-induced production of tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin(IL)-6,and IL-8(P<0.01)with no noticeable effects on IL-10 level.It also reduced ROS generation and NADPH oxidase activities in LPS-stimulated Raw 264.7 cells(P<0.01).Furthermore,wedelolactone showed anti-insulin resistance activity,as evidenced by improved glucose uptake and the upregulated expression of IRS1 and GLUT4 in 3T3-L1 cells(P<0.01).Conclusions:Wedelolactone exhibits anti-inflammation and anti-insulin resistance effects,which may be used for the treatment of diabetes and inflammation-associated diseases.

Optimal Scheduling of Multiple Rail Cranes in Rail Stations with Interference Crane Areas

In this paper,we consider a multi-crane scheduling problem in rail stations because their operations directly influence the throughput of the rail stations.In particular,the job is not only assigned to cranes but also the job sequencing is implemented for each crane to minimize the makespan of cranes.A dual cycle of cranes is used to minimize the number of working cycles of cranes.The rail crane scheduling problems in this study are based on the movement of containers.We consider not only the gantry moves,but also the trolley moves as well as the rehandle cases are also included.A mathematical model of multi-crane scheduling is developed.The traditional and parallel simulated annealing(SA)are adapted to determine the optimal scheduling solutions.Numerical examples are conducted to evaluate the applicability of the proposed algorithms.Verification of the proposed parallel SA is done by comparing it to existing previous works.Results of numerical computation highlighted that the parallel SA algorithm outperformed the SA and gave better solutions than other considered algorithms.

Autohydrolysis treatment of bamboo and potassium oxalate(K_(2)C_(2)O_(4))activation of bamboo product for CO_(2) capture utilization

Typically,the hydroxide agents,such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide,which have corrosive properties,are used in the carbon activation process.In this study,potassium oxalate(K_(2)C_(2)O_(4)),a less toxic and non-corrosive activating reagent,was used to synthesize activated carbon from the solid residue after autohydrolysis treatment.The effect of the autohydrolysis treatment and the ratio of the K_(2)C_(2)O_(4)/solid residue are presented in this study.Moreover,the comparison between the activated carbon from bamboo and biochar from the solid residue are also reported.The resulting activated carbon from the solid residue exhibited a high surface area of up to 1432 m^(2)·g^(-1) and a total pore volume of up to 0.88 cm^(3)·g^(-1).The autohydrolysis treatment enhanced the microporosity properties compared to those without pretreatment of the activated carbon.The microporosity of the activated carbon from the solid residue was dominated by the pore width at 0.7 nm,which is excellent for CO_(2) storage.At 25℃ and 1.013×10^(5) Pa,the CO_(2) captured reached up to 4.1 mmol·g^(-1).On the other hand,the ratio between K_(2)C_(2)O_(4) and the solid residue has not played a critical role in determining the porosity properties.The ratio of the K_(2)C_(2)O_(4)/solid residue of 2 could help the carbon material reach a highly microporous textural property that produces a high carbon capture capacity.Our finding proved the benefit of using the solid residue from the autohydrolysis treatment as a precursor material and offering a more friendly and sustainable activation carbon process.

EP Aquarii:A New Picture of the Circumstellar Envelope

New analyses of earlier ALMA observations of oxygen-rich AGB star EP Aquarii are presented,which complete a previously published analysis and offer a different interpretation of the morpho-kinematics of the circumstellar envelope.The birth of the equatorial density enhancement(EDE)is shown to occur very close to the star where evidence for rotation has been obtained.Close to the star and where outflows have been observed:their interaction with the gas of the nascent EDE is seen to play an important role in the development of the wind and the evolution of its radial velocity from 8 to 10 km s^(-1) on the polar symmetry axis to~2 km s^(-1) at the equator.It implies complex morpho-kinematics:making reliable interpretations with reasonable confidence is difficult.In particular,it questions an earlier interpretation implying the presence of a white dwarf companion orbiting the star at an angular distance of -0″4 from its center.It proposes instead an interpretation in terms of a standard mass ejection associated with a shock wave leaving a void of emission in its wake.High Doppler velocity wings are seen to consist of two components,the upper velocity end of the global wind,reaching above±12 km s^(-1),and an effective line broadening,confined within 200 mas from the center of the star,reaching above±20 km s^(-1) and interpreted as caused by the pattern of shock waves resulting from the interaction between stellar pulsation and convective cell partition.

TiO₂-PES Fibrous Composite Material for Ammonia Removal Using UV-A Photocatalyst

This study focused on the development and characterization of TiO2-PES composite fibers with varying TiO2 loading amounts using a phase inversion process. The resulting composite fibers exhibited a sponge-like structure with embedded TiO2 nanoparticles within a polymer matrix. Their photocatalytic performance for ammonia removal from aqueous solutions under UV-A light exposure was thoroughly investigated. The findings revealed that PeTi8 composite fibers displayed superior adsorption capacity compared to other samples. Moreover, the study explored the impact of pH, light intensity, and catalyst dosage on the photocatalytic degradation of ammonia. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms closely followed the Langmuir model, with the results indicating a correlation between qm values of 2.49 mg/g and the porous structure of the adsorbents. The research underscored the efficacy of TiO2 composite fibers in the photocatalytic removal of aqueous under UV-A light. Notably, increasing the distance between the photocatalyst and the light source resulted in de-creased hydroxyl radical concentration, influencing photocatalytic efficiency. These findings contribute to our understanding of TiO2 composite fibers as promising photocatalysts for ammonia removal in water treatment applications.

Flexible PVA/BMIMOTf/LLZTO composite electrolyte with liquid-comparable ionic conductivity for solid-state lithium metal battery

Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate(BMIMOTf)/Li_(6.4)La_(3)Zr_(1.4)Ta_(0.6)O_(12)(LLZTO)solid-state composite electrolyte(SSCE)membranes were synthesized for solid-state lithium metal battery application.The garnet-type LLZTO nanoparticles were surface-coated with the polydopamine layer of 8-10 nm thickness to enhance the dispersion status of LLZTO particles in the PVA matrix.The hydrophilic BMIMOTf ionic liquid(IL)was added along with LLZTO nanoparticles to enhance the ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability of the SSCE membranes.The synthesized composite electrolyte membrane containing 7 wt%of LLZTO and 60 wt%of BMIMOTf showed the outstanding Li+conductivity of 2×10^(-3)S cm^(-1)and the lithium transference number of 0.76 at room temperature in the firm and flexible solid state with the tensile strength of 8 MPa.Such a high single ion conduction characteristic led to the quite low interfacial resistance of 39Ωbetween the composite electrolyte and the lithium anode.Owing to these superior properties of composite membranes,the LiFePO_(4)|SSCE|Li cell exhibited an excellent discharge capacity of 165 mAh g^(-1)at 0.2 C,maintaining the coulombic efficiency of 98%after 100 cycles at room temperature.

An Efficient Differential Evolution for Truss Sizing Optimization Using AdaBoost Classifier

Design constraints verification is the most computationally expensive task in evolutionary structural optimization due to a large number of structural analyses thatmust be conducted.Building a surrogatemodel to approximate the behavior of structures instead of the exact structural analyses is a possible solution to tackle this problem.However,most existing surrogate models have been designed based on regression techniques.This paper proposes a novel method,called CaDE,which adopts a machine learning classification technique for enhancing the performance of the Differential Evolution(DE)optimization.The proposed method is separated into two stages.During the first optimization stage,the original DE is implemented as usual,but all individuals produced in this phase are stored as inputs of the training data.Based on design constraints verification,these individuals are labeled as“safe”or“unsafe”and their labels are saved as outputs of the training data.When collecting enough data,an AdaBoost model is trained to evaluate the safety state of structures.This model is then used in the second stage to preliminarily assess new individuals,and unpromising ones are rejected without checking design constraints.This method reduces unnecessary structural analyses,thereby shortens the optimization process.Five benchmark truss sizing optimization problems are solved using the proposed method to demonstrate its effectiveness.The obtained results show that the CaDE finds good optimal designs with less structural analyses in comparison with the original DE and four other DE variants.The reduction rate of five examples ranges from 18 to over 50%.Moreover,the proposed method is applied to a real-size transmission tower design problem to exhibit its applicability in practice.
